I got around to foiling and installing the windows today. My foiling skills need work as it has been some time, but it's decent. I have the other door handle to do and reattach the Chevelle script that fell off during handling [DOH!]. Interior is in the background and I just love that MCG detail fret. Handles and goodies for the interior add life to otherwise dull plastic. This kit is good in that it doesn't have the pulls or other pieces engraved so there isn't any sanding off of things. Should be done soon. Thanks for looking. Bob F

99GT is totally solid with his advice. Get the 66 Nova Pro Street and cut it up. It's not only real close wheelbase wise, but you get all those kit pieces which may help your other build as well. Good luck. Bob F

Anyone have a trick to cutting out acetate gauges in a circle? My hand is not steady enough [it's the eyes really] to cut these things out in a perfect circle. I know there's a trick to it. Who knows said trick? TIA Bob F

Monogram kits of this time period are deceptively simple. But when done with care they can end up as great shelf models. Polish that plastic and I'm sure it will look like a slick paint job. I've been fooled more than once by a good polish on bare plastic. This is also not a common kit. Do er proud. Bob F

A little rub out with Novis after 3 days dry time [i put the clear on thinly] and she's ready for the badging so I went to work tonight. MCG PE detail sets are Da Bomb! If you are new to PE DON'T be afraid. A little Tamiya clear paint to attach them [after sanding the edges and painting the details] and they are great. the steering wheel applique is especially nice. Lay down some Tamiya Semi black and when it's dry sand away till you get the trim shiny. Always use a roundish object a bit more round than the object you are applying to to achieve a nice fit instead of it being flat is all you need to do. Roll it between your finger and the round object to get the perfect curve for the PE part. Add a little Tamiya clear [i apply the clear to the body instead of the part]. Use a good magnifying lense for just the right placement. Motor and chassis are done and the interior is coming along. The kit has electric window buttons on the console so I am going with electric for the doors as well. I think the rears are still roll ups but I am still searching for a good pic. I may just put em on anyway for added detail. Simple engine wiring on this. Maybe a PE radiator hose clamp or 2. I'll have this finished for the weekend. I'll post it when I'm done Bob F

Beautiful color and well executed.... Tamiya kits just build up so nicely. I've gotta get me one but they don't produce subjects i wish to build much. Well done. Bob F

What paint for Revell '69 Camaro Z/28 RS?
Dragline replied to JayC's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I'm having no end of luck with Testors Model Master laquers in the rattle cans. They have Hugger Orange and I would recommend Testors 1814 clear over it. But that's me. Bob F -
So this is the Monogram 1970 Chevelle SS kit from 1980 I have been going on about @ kit reviews. Seems better as a kit the more I work with it despite the few glaring inaccuracies. I think it may be the best one kitted so far which really makes a point about this car being woefully under kitted. I'm not going full hog but just plug wires and nice paint. I hit it with Duplicolor primer [grey] followed by Testors Model Master italian red laquer. That stuff is just foolproof. Black interior is drying as I write this [Tamiya Semi Black, the best I have seen]. I also shot the hood with it. I went a little overboard with the underneath overspray but whatever. It's not going to be judged at NNL or anything. The stripes were a nightmare that just curled right up so only the deck will have them. The hood decals folded like origami and then tore [i cursed a bit] so I made lemonade. Testors clear is now drying and then a rub and buff with the Novis should produce a nice finish. MCG PE detail set for the badging and that's about it. Bob F

Thanks Dave, thank all you guys for the responses. It looks like if they did retool or modify a Chevelle kit they'd have a sure thing on their hands. I'm not sure about spending 17.00 on a new kit for hood stripes is the order of the day for me, but good looking out. I think i'll keep it status quo and build it the way i currently am. It's fun and that's all that matters [ignoring the hood decal situation. They just curled up and tore ARGGGHHH!] I'm just adding plug wires and finishing it. Once again, THANKS. Bob F

That looks VERY nice Steve. I applied the stripes on the deck on mine and when I went to install the hood ones....... well, let's just say there were problems... Soooo, I'm going to leave the rear deck stripes and paint the hood semi black. I HATE this kind of modeling. I doubt there are stripes for a cowl induction hood out there for this car... Are there? The rest looks great, the paint is going to be poyfect. That Testors laquer is almost foolproof. I'm taking lisence with it since it's not a great kit, and I wasn't going to go full hog anyway. The motor is excellent, as is most of the other parts in this kit. Steve, the alternator in that AMT kit is on the wrong side!!! Will they ever properly do this majestic car correctly? The Baldwin Motion seem nice. I'll wager with a couple of kits combined, an accurate one COULD result. But who wishes to spend all that on it? Back to the workbench for me. Bob F

I did a search for 1970 Chevelle SS kits and I'll be horn swaggled if there isn't that many. The AMT one is awful with the molded in driveline, this Monogram one looks to be the best one out there. Which is sad really considering it's one of the TOP 5 all time Muscle cars period. This is a grossly overlooked car is plastic. How many Hemi Cuda's do we have? Geez............. Unless there is someone with some beacon of hope???? Bob F

I have a Monogram Chevelle kit here that i'm building. The one from 1980 to be exact. It's OK I guess. Kinda simple as they did it back then. My question is. Who makes the best kit of this Year/Make/Model??? I have the MCG Detail set. I already painted the car [italian Red Laquer over grey primer]. It's going to be nice but after some research i see things that are not right, or omitted altogether. I'm not going to go crazy with this build but i want it to be fairly accurate. So who makes the nicest one? TIA Bob F

Absolutely original and wonderful. Beautiful execution and even the color seems right. Best thing I've seen done with an Italian since that blind date I went on last year. Bob F

I've been watching and your builds are improving. Time to start "sweating" the little stuff. As you do start "sweating" these things your builds cleanliness begins to go up. You are on the right track. Bob F

THIS is a beauuuutiful build.... Perhaps a couple of stripes or a theme of some kind. Would seem a shame to cover that nice color. But to make an omlete......... Very nice indeed. Bob F

I LOVE the NHRA. It's in my blood. 4 lanes is AWESOME, as a sideshow type thing. I like the idea of four nitro burning cars hitting WOT all at once...... WOW! I'm sure this is just a "get em in the seats" type stunt since it doesn't serve for REAL racing. But MAN, that musta been some kinda loud!!! For those who have never been close to a Fuel car as it takes off, there is nothing like it in this world. That video was great. It's already making the rounds with my family. Bob F

Great car, but the wheels and tires???? Good start on the body though. Make it a big block. Bob F

Glad to see one of your builds up here Gregg!!!!!!!!!! Color combo is nice. The wheels ain't my thing but they do look good. Finish it! Bob F
