  1. Thanks; everyone for the kinds words and prep talk on finishing it. It's going to be slow, I only have time to work on models on the weekends. Tony
  2. Hey Ron Your wagon is looking great, I don"t think I could do the wood trim and make look right, that's why mine is a Ranch wagon. The roof rack was a factory option, the one in the kit looks close to factory. Tony
  3. Wow Love your 914, I guess I will have to get one soon. I own a full scale 71 914, a former Solo 1 car. I wish It had a six and flares like your model.
  4. I also found on the net, Old ford wagon ads. I am going to use them to make it look like it would in the early 60s or at least as close as I can. But it is going to become Ranch Wagon, to much glue on it to save the trim.
  5. I cut out the hood, man the plastic was really thick. But lines for the opening were easy to follow. I guess there is no going back now. were deep to start with so It was easy to follow.
  6. The Frame looks a little short but I think it will work. I am also going to open up the Hood, so I can add the engine from the AMT.
  7. I am going to use the AMT 60 Ford Starliner kit for the better fame and seats. Hopefully I can get the parts to work together since I think they are different scales.
  8. Hi, I am adding another Ford Wagon Glue Bomb to the mix. Since the other wagon has wood panels on it, I thought I would post my build now since I am going in a different direction. I bought mine at the last NNL West. I think I paid to much for it, but I just love old wagons. The chrome wheels didn't come with it. They are from the Revel 49 Merc kit, The wheels and tires that came with it were just to small for the Wagon. I am shooting for a early 60's Surf feel to it, with metal flake paint done in a two tone and wheels and tires from that era.
  9. I think it is 1931 CADILLAC SPORT PHAETON V16 JOHAN 1/25. because it is to big to be a 1/32 scale. Tony
  10. Dale I don't think anyone makes a new model of a 1964 Corvette. You may find a old AMT build up or pay top price for unbuilt one in the box. You can find a 63 roadster which is the same as the 64 but the hood has a double grill on it. Modelhaus sell a resin hood for a 64. Or if its a coupe you want the 63 spilt window are also easy to find on ebay, you will have to remove the split part of the window. Tony
  11. Great start ! I saw this truck run at the Good guy's car show and it sounded great. Before you start painting, I think you should check to see if the the wheel wells were enlarged or maybe the body was section a couple of inches. The body doesn't look stock to me. But I could be wrong.
  12. Thank's for the kind words from everyone, to answer Darren question. I took the doors from the Vampire van and glue a thin plastic sheet on to the doors, then cut more plastic sheeting to the shapes need to make the Tikis. I glued the pieces together with Plastic weld and coated the whole Tiki with more Plastic weld to soften the edges. Then i painted both doors with a Pagan Gold. I then painted over the doors with the Limetime Green and used paint thinner to see the gold again. I am thinking about highlighting the Tikis with a thin black wash. I wish I could Pin-stripe the Tikis but I am unsure about how to get a thin line with paint.
  13. The next thing I did was to drop the front axles, I cut the ends off the stock axle and glue a new rod on to the stock ends. I am also cutting up some cedar veneer to cover the walls and roof of the inside of van. I found that coating the cedar with clear to help hold the veneer together when cutting to fit.
  14. I started this build a couple years ago and now have started working on again. Its a Vampire Van body on 32 Chevy fenders, hood and grill. It all fits well together because MPC converted the 32 Chevy Panel van to make the Vampire Van. I am trying to build it with a early 60's Surf feel, so whitewall tires and chrome rims from the Ala-Kart kit. It's painted with Black fenders and a metal flake paint on the body ( House of Kolor Limetime Green Pearl ). It's going to be powered by a 51 chevy six with twin carbs and Headers. I change the rear doors to twin Tiki's to get away from the Hearse feel. So any suggestion on what I have done so far on this surf Van would fine.
  15. Darran Try bnamodelworld.com for your girl, they have one or two could use. Check under figures. They are the last three listed. Tony
  16. Charlie I would check on using a old AMT 64 impala windows. I have a convertible 64 Wildcat with a bad window frame and I tired the 64 Impala windows and it looks like it will work. The Impala tub fits, but is just a little narrow. You could also use part of the rear frame also, the Buick has its wheels forward more.
  17. This weekend I met a car modeler who doesn't use a computer. He is around 60 years old and missed the computer age, so no internet, no on line hobby stores and no great modeling web site like this. His granddaughters knew that I have a large collect of model cars because my wife was their daycare provider, any way, he was looking for people to put in a 1/25 garage he is building. So I sold him a Fujimi mechanics set. I am getting close to 60, but I have worked in Silicon Valley all my adult life. A lot of people who didn't work in the high tech world and who are around my age or older may have no interest in the internet because they didn't start when they were younger and see no need for it. My first thought was how does someone find model cars to build. We had both gone to the same hobby store before it close and Walmart doesn't carry them any more. So if you don't go in with your wife to Michaels you would never know they sold models car there. I have a strong felling that a large group of young model car builders from the 1960's would still be building models now if they could find them. I have seen ads for models in a couple of magazines with an internet address and maybe a mailing address. But not in Rod and Custom or Hot Rod, these are the magazines I grew up with. I know if models were easier to find they would sell a lot more of them, which means more new models for me to buy and build. TonyN
  18. O.K. I check the two chassis and Bill and George are right the Thunderbird is a better choice. The 66 Ford Galaxy has a frame. I took a picture of the 65 Lincoln and the 62 Thunderbird and they are both unbodied not a full frame.
  19. The Thunderbird may be to small, I would try the 66 Ford Galaxy it is a full size car. Lots of great parts in the kit. Tony
  20. It looks like its going to a kool build ! Hot Rod magazine built one, I think in the 70s they called it Novette. it had all new corvette suspension.
  21. Bill, I am going ahead and building it as a 36 Ford truck with a passenger car sheet metal. It won't be the Dodge but hopefully the same feeling. I don't want to go to crazy with it. I have three other models going right now and need to finish one before really getting into this one. I put it up on the form because, no one else I thought had build one like this yet.
  22. Bill it looks like I am way behind the curve on this one. I don't belong to that other form and that's why I didn't see your build two year ago. I have a build thread here, in which I see you found it. It was in on the workbench. How its here, I guess was only a1/4 car so it was move here. Tony
  23. Wow cool begininngs for a 38, love that you have chopped the top. Yesterday I was looking thru my old Rod & Kulture magazine and saw the same great looking 38 and thought hey I could put the 38 grill on the pick-up that I started. But you beat me to it, darn it. What's funny is that someone else told me about seeing the same truck model being built buy someone else and ask if it was De'ja vu? I would like to think it was great minds thinking a like. I am going to steal the way you changed the bottom of the cab, it looks a lot better than mine. Tony
  24. I agree it could be old age, I now love the old school Hot Rods, Rat Rods and find over priced Billet Rod have lost there appeal to me also. But when I look at the old school Hot Rods now, I see more thought put into them to get a feeling of personality that you can build into them. Like listening to an analog record with its warm feeling sound over Digital recordings, it feels more alive. A Billet Rod is more cookie cutter, like the problem with most modern cars. They all look alike, a 32 roadster smoothed out, made of fiberglass with over size wheels and rubber band tires built by someone else not the owner. The last car show I went to had a group of Billet Rods all parked in a row and they all look alike, following the same rules. What's funny is that it was the younger kids building Rat Rod, Old school Hot Rods and Customs to help show the way back. So I am now following the latest trend or I am being an old fart and saying things were better when I was a kid. What's wrong with Kids today?
  25. I was just looking at the latest car culture Deluxe and saw this 36 Dodge truck and love the sweeping fenders on it. I thought they looked a lot like the 36 Ford car sheet metal. So I grabbed an old Monagram 36 ford kit and cut the fenders off at the part where the running boards glue in at. Then removed the 37 Fords front fender at the edge were its running board stop and a little super glue and tape and got this. So this was to easy and I am sure this has been done before. So now if I could just stop starting new models and never finishing them. I have two models that are almost finish, but I have just little things to fix on them to get them done. Must be that ADD or that other problem many of us have. Tony
