  1. Awhile back I seem to remember someone saying that Alclad was available in a spray can. I don't have a dedicated airbrush setup (yet) so constantly breaking it out just to shoot a couple chrome parts is a pain, so i suaully don't bother. I like using the stuff, and it gives great results. So, does it actually come in spray cans? Is there a source online? If not can someone buy it locally and ship it to me(I would cover the expenses, of course). It just seems like it's an urban legend, since nobody i know has ever seen it or can find it.
  2. Ok Jairus, I may relent to your suggestion. I just picked up the latest issue of MCM and saw the pic of Vince Lobosco's fendered Phantom Vickie. His looks awesome, as always. I've known Vince for 10+ years, but haven't talked to him in quite awhile since I now live 1200 miles away. Back when the Phantom Vickie kit came out we discussed how cool it would be with fenders. Glad he got his done because his results are outstanding! But after seeing his I realized mine would be too similar to his, so I may take you up on your advice and alter the top to a Carson-style top. The rest of the model is mostly painted, i'll be posting pics within a couple days. At least this alteration doesn't affect the rest of the build, so i should be able to keep moving on it. Stay tuned!
  3. Thank you to those that took the time to actually vote (or email me your votes as non-members). The run-off candidates have been selected by a tally of all votes, so now I am asking for you to vote once again. Here is the list of 4 candidates(there was a tie for third). Also, the final tally is listed below. The '72 GMC- This is based on the AMT/MPC 72 Chevy Longbed kit. I adapted an AMT '89 Chevy 454SS interior to I could have seperate parts instead of the crudely molded one peice '72 interior. I'm thinking it will probably run the big block from the revell '67 Chevelle pro-street kit. Body details include the GMC kit grille and hood, molded front pan, molded rear pan, and full width taillight. Wheels and tires are from the recent revell '67 chevelle Cali Wheels kit, and the paint scheme will also be pulled from that kit, orange over black with the chevelle kit flame decals. 6-shooter model A- This model is a true kitbash. Throw the body and shortened bed from a new tool Alakart, add the custom nose from the AMT '36 Ford, engine and wheels/tires from the Galaxie Ltd '48 Chevy, and lots of parts box stuff and you get what you see here. The engine does have parts from the AMT '53 vette to make the engine unique, with the 3 sidedraft carbs and the ignition shrouding is removeable too. This one is actually painted, but I will need to strip it because the body work is sub-standard. it was my first experimant with Tamiya putty, an it shrank badly(it's not the 2 part stuff, which I hear works really well) hopefully I won't have to re-do too much bodywork, becasue otherwise this one is ready to assemble. '32 Chevy Nomad- This is based on the MPC '32 Chevy cabriolet kit, with an revell speedwagon cowl and AMT '55 nomad roof grafted on. It will probably run on the revell '32 ford frame, but I may change my mind to something more GM minded. This will be a "newstalgia" type build, so I'll be running a supercharged straight 6(probably the engine from the revell'41 chevy pickup.) The body is the only thing actually done on this one, so many of the details are open to ideas. Sectioned '40 Ford- this is based on the revell '40 Ford coupe kit. It has been channelled and sectioned, but will remain un-chopped to retain the strong east-coast style vibe. It is inspired by the El Matador 50's custom. There are scoops at the rear of the running boards, a customized '39 standard grille, and will probably have quad headlights and molded C2 vette taillights. Motovation may be from the Cadyy engine in the new revell '49 Merc(if I can ever find one). Here is the official voting tally for the first round. 72 GMC-7 6 shooter- 7 '32 Nomad- 5 Sectioned 40- 5 Slammed '56 pickup- 4 Stylish Shoptruck- 4 32 % window- 3 Shot Rod- 3 Silhouette 2007, Model a Sport trac, Grand Prix Kustom, and GM Amalgum-2 Chopped '67 chevelle, Badd '34, SLO Special and '37 Ute- 1 3rd attempt deuce and the vintage '36 -no votes
  4. That is very interesting. I wonder if Revell obtained access to a liscensing agreement that Hobbico possibly had with Firestone? If that's the case at least it's one positive thing to come from the Hobbico purchase! Finally, a return to revell tires with sidewall detail! I know, it's a little thing, but it does make a difference
  5. Thanks Dave. There are 4 WalMarts in the area and I keep checking all of them for a Merc. I'm giddy with anticipation, and this one looks like it will live up to my expectations!
  6. I agree with Matt, that grille looks great. Speaking from experience that is very tedious work, especially if you are trying to maintain the chrome. Nice job!
  7. Does anyone know if the California Wheels version of the Nomad(which is the latest release of this kit) got the corrections or not?
  8. Sounds like it's one box with 2 built-ups. One on top, the other on the "bottom" It's probably a flat box like the recent "uptown" Charger, Caddy and 300 The only Lindberg stuff i've seen at wally's are the display cases. One location had the Weird-O's for awhile.
  9. Great save, nice build
  10. Well said Bob. Too much negativity aimed towards the hobby lately. I call it "the sky is falling" mentality. It ain't over 'till it's over.
  11. Nope. I'm intentionally trying to give a broad range to choose from. I would have done more but I didn't want to overburden the voters or the forum with so many candidates to scroll thru. Voting will be open for one week, and after that will be a one week run-off between the top 3 vote getters. Come one guys, 200+ views and only 17 votes? If you view, please vote. It doesn't take any extra time.
  12. I think I fixed mine Bill, thanks for your help. I had it included in the first draft of my post, but somehow deleted it from the final draft i posted.
  13. Sorry to be negative. the closing of Hobby heaven has me in a pesamistic mood this morning. The point of my post is that Wally supposedly has a 2-4 week exclusive on these Merc kits, so thats why we haven't seen them elsewhere yet. Just like you said, WM is secretive, so who knows if this is true. Makes sense in this situation though.
  14. I can't see the poll on my end, can you guys see it? please advise I fixed it, thanks for your patience! Please vote now!
  15. Vinatage '36 Roadster This one is a bit further along than the pic indicates. It's an AMT 36 ford with all the running gear from the Revell '40 Ford replacing the stock AMT stuff. It will also have a DuVall windsheild, salt flats discs, LeSalle grille and black paint with red interior. A real classic hot rod look. '37 ford "ute" This is the Monogram '37 ford sedan converted to a "ute". it has a parts pack caddy motor, old tool monogram '32 ford wheels, and custom bed. '32 5window This is a revell 32 roadster body with an AMT 32 5 window roof section grafted on. This will be late 50's style show rod. may substitute the "edsel" grille from the AMT 32 sedan double kit(thanks Steve H) for the track nose since it will be powered by the latham blown AMT '58 edsel engine. '72 GMC pickup This is the AMT '72 Chevy pickup with GMC grille and hood. AMT '90's chvevy 454 SS interior. Customized bed with center mounted full width tailight. Colors will be metallic orange over black, just like the box art for revells '67 Chevelle from a few years ago. Wheels and tires from that Chevelle kit. Engine TBD "Stylish" shoptruck The impetus for this one is a Jimmy Flintstone resin"rat rod" '37 ford truck cab with custom grille. i adapted the cab to fit a shortened 30's Chrysler fender unit and scratchbuilt frame. Engine is the BIG flattie from the AMT '28 Lincoln. it will have a weathered patina, as hinted by the wheels and tires from a VonDutch diecast. Grand Prix kustom Based on the AMT '64 Grand Prix kit, using the custom body parts It is inspired by the barris riviera custom from the mid 60's. Heavily customized interior with rear seat deleted. Shot rod Revell Buttera t with chopped top and roof removed. Ala kart running gear. Not sure what engine is in the pic, but I'm sure it will be wild. Bad'34 AMT's '34 5 window, chopped and channeled. Has the enine from the Mazmanian willys kit, with 6 carb inake and skull airscoops(I know, it's been done before). Wheels are from the AMT '36 Ford. Gosh, this was a long post to type up. I hope youguys like what you see. Please vote!!! http://public.fotki.com/crstan/noslow-motion_projects/
  16. There are 2 posts containing all the entries, so please look at both. i had to post them seperately because of the image posting limits of the board. Back when I opened up my new hobby room for "business" I stated that I was going to ask for your help in deciding which abandoned project i should resurrect first. Well, the time is now. Please vote. The projects listed here are by no means all of my abandoned projects, just the ones that have the most time invested, most work completed, or are closest to completion. follow the link to more in depth picsI will take the top 3 vote getters and do a run-off to select the winner. The time is now, please make your voice heard!!! '32 Chevy Nomad This is an AMT phantom vicki body with MPC '32 Chevy parts and an AMT '55 nomad roof. The style will be "newstalgia". Some kind of cool chevy power, maybe the 4 "weber" EFI from the recent Revell '67 vette. GM Amalgum This was started about 4 years ago. It's a JF body, modified to a sigle headlight setup and grille shell to accept a caddy grille. AMT new tool '57 Chevy street machine chassis and suspension. Motovation is a chevy 383 W motor with modern corvette intake setup. Slammed '56 pickup This started out as my vision of what Roth work truck should have looked like since the real one was too "stock". It will no longer be that. Heavily chopped cab, mostly scratchbuilt custom bed. '62 tbird dash and engine. Opening, suicide doors. This was painted once, but the masking for the scallops went bad 6 shooter track roadster This is based on the new tool AMT ala kart, but is heavily modified. the engine is from the Galaxie Ltd '48 Chevy, with parts from the AMT '53 corvette to dress it out. Wheels also from the '48 kit. this was painted black at one time, but the bodywork was not up to par, so I need to strip it. Chopped '67 Chevelle This is revell's '67 chevelle, with a "gentlemans" chop. Trunk opened to reveal huge sound system. Engine is from the new tool AMT '57 Chevy syreet machine. this one is painted, jsut awaiting assembly. Wheels are Marc Nellis big diameter Chevy rally wheels out back and "normal" rallys up front. Kitbashed(not resin) baldwin style hood. 3rd attempt deuce This is the third attempted project using this rep+Min 32 Ford body. This time around i opened up the roof and scratchbuilt the support bows for the top. Engine is a slightly hot rodded engine from the AMT '55 chevy cameo. Wheels are the artillary wheels from the revell '37 ford pickup. Sectioned '40 Ford this is an El matador-esque East coast style '40 Ford. it has been sectioned, but not chopped. Silhouette 2007 This is a modern interpritation of Cushenbury silhouette showcar. The body is mostly unchanged, except for modern Supra headlights. The chassis will be made more accurate, and wheels and tires from the AMT Wagonrod. Engine is the "viper-esque" setup from the AMT duster street machine. Model A sport trac Ispired by a Jairus sketch this is the AMT model a woody with the rear end cut off and a pickup bed installed, similar to a modern Explorer Sport Trac. Will probably have the rodded flathead out of the revell '48 Ford SLO Special This is a narrowed '32 Ford roadster body and frame. Engine is a four cylinder ford motor with a front driven blower. It's called SLO because its a Straight Line Only vehicle. Narrow track and long wheelbase make it unsafe anywhere except the salt flats.
  17. Rumor is Wally has an exclusive 2-4 week lead time on this kit, which would explain why dealers don't have them and the "street date" for hobby shops is sometime in August. Funny how wally says they are leaving this plastic kit buisiness, but they are going to trash it right until they leave. same thing last year with the chopper kits. they were on wally shelves a good moth before anywhere else. Sorry, I'll step off my soapbox now.
  18. The Riviera kit the guys are talking about is the AMT/Ertl '66 Riviera(available in lowrider and stock versions) This tooling is all new, state of the art as of 1999 or 2000 when it came out. The kit is beautiful, and well executed with great detail. The wildcat you are talking about is a vintage mid 60's kit I beleive.
  19. Chris, this wasn't directed at you. Just seems to be a developing attitude towards AMT that is just about everywhere I turn, both online and in the real world.
  20. I'm in complete agreement with that! This is a kit that cried out to be a 2-in-1 in the first place. The new parts look nice. I see two sets of light commercial markings. Slammin' Hammer and Plum Lake Mill.
  21. I purchased this kit over the weekend, so I figured i sho pics of the new parts, for those interested. THIS IS NOT A FULL REVIEW, JUST PICS OF THE PARTS I THINK ARE NEW Here's the boxart so you know what to look for on the shelf. Here is the very nice looking decal sheet. Nice mix of light commercial, rep stock and custom markings. Here is the new chrome tree. Note the shallow offset, but well done wheels. Also the new valve cover and air cleaner. Here are the low profile, no name tires. And last, are the rest of the new parts. Note the new intake, bed stakes, visor, and adaptors for the modern wheels. It's been a long time since I have looked at my original iissue of the kit, but since they took the time to just tool up new trees for the new parts, i am thinking they did not modify the others. I didn't see any flash on the other parts, but I have not thoroughly examined them. These parts look like great additions, if only they had originally been included I bet the kit would have sold better. Well, i'm just glad to have it back. Thanks Revell!!!
  22. My local Hobby Lobby (davenport IA) has some AMT kits on markdown since last week, but not all. The ones that are on markdown are ones that have been around for a long time. Not doubting you guys, but are you sure all of your locations AMT kits were put on clearance, or did it just seem that way? Different locations could have different markdowns, but since they are corporatly owned that seems strange to me. Oh well. Just trying to avoid adding to the "sky is falling" atmosphere directed towards AMT that has developed seemingly everywhere lately.
  23. That's what I was afraid of while reading the article. So, in theory, using this setup, but running an exhuast from the bucket outside might be the ultimate setup? This way you aren't introducing solvents into the outside air, just fumes?
  24. Beautiful!!!
