Fast And Furious Tokyo Drift Mustang
Mr. Metallic replied to Clay's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't want to start a fight, but what makes it so wrong? Just because it's a Japanese engine in an American car? Hot rodders have been putting other makes of engines in their cars since the beginning, so what's different than what they did in the movie? Hot Rodding, buiding street machines, muscle cars and tuners, it's all about going fast and looking good. This mustang did both in my book. -
For those of you wanting to try the RIT dye technique here are a few tips. I've actually done this, so I'm not just hypothisizing(is that a word?) 1)Buy yourself a cheap/used pot to heat the dye in. Try yard sales or thrift shops. 2)Buy a cheap mesh strainer from the cooking section of your favorite store. If you can find a plastic one that would be best so it doesn't transfer the heat to your clear part. The strainer is to keep your part from making contact with the sides of the hot pan which will cause melting or warpage. 3) Follow the directions on the RIT package for preparing the dye 4) A light "polishing" is a good idea to give the dye something to soak into. Use one of those very high # polishing clothes or the buffing parts of a ladies manicure stick. I originally read about this method in a magazine, and gave it a try. Longer soaking makes for a darker tint, so monitor your progress, but each successize dye session reduces it's effectivness. I did this on the glass roof insert for AMT's 56 Ford, and it came out pretty good, but it was the wrong color in the end, so i never used it and did not take pics of the results. I would be more inclined to try the tinting Future technique because it is reversible, but the RIT dye tinting can be done!

Trumpeter Pontiac Bonneville

Imitation is the sincearist form of flattery, so knock yourself out. Sorry, I'm sure I just butchered the spelling on a couple of those words. -

Those wheels came from the AMT "custom" 60 starliner. They are mounted on the trumpeter kit tires -

Satiny chrome was a problem with the first batch of kits. If you contact Stevens International you should still be able to get a new chrome tree since it is still in their catalog. The intake on the engine is a mess, but the rest of the engine is OK. The size and shape of the hardtop is not correct if that's what you have. if you have the convertible the interior is not stock, but very nice. It's an underated kit that can be built up very nicely if you spend some time correcting flaws. Here's the kustom that I built, having a nonstock interior actually worked in my favor with this build. Whether or not these flaws should have made it into brand new tooling in this day and age is a debate that has been beaten to death since the kit came out. Be your own judge. -
That's looking really nice. Great stance and nice details so far.

I'm a big fan of ZZ too(listening to them right now). I plan to build the eliminator one day, but I'll be taking important parts from that kit(valve cover, air cleaner, decals...) and kitbashing with something more detailed. However, your's is looking pretty good, the hinges are a nice detail. I also have the cadzilla diecast by Hot Wheels(pretty nice), and old resin body to do Kopperhed, a '62 Chevy conversion started with the roof from the '62 catalina(this one was started by a friend). I really need to get at least one of these started

I really, really , really miss SPEED's coverage of WRC. I've got a couple WRC kits stashed away, one of these days I'll build one. Your focus is looking good. Looking forward to more.

I've been wanting to do this since the Phantom Vickie kit came out about 8 years ago. It took a long time to commit to it, but I finally just said I gotta do it. It's the Phantom Vickie body and interior installed on a revell '32 speedwagon frame and running gear. It built in the "newstalgia" style with vintage touches added to modern parts. I modified a pair of Rep and Min of Md lincoln valve covers to fit the revell engine. I also installed a Rep and Min 2 carb intake and Parts By Parks distributor. Upon a suggestion by Jairus, who designed this body concept for AMT, I modified the top to a more Carson style top. The top is actually an old Rep and Min part that was chopped a bit by Rik Hoving to give the AMT execution a better line. I covered the top with masking tape and used evergreen to make the seams. I used cigarette pack foil as a heat shield above the rearend. I like the look, and will be using that idea again. Redlines are Pegasus rub-ons applied to the revell kit tires. http://public.fotki.com/crstan/finished_mo...ndered-phantom/

That's absolutly beautiful. Great job!

Well, it's been more than 2 months since the last update, but things are actually moving again. I've installed motor mounts, finalized the front suspension and intake setup, and completed bodywork. Color will probably be either classic Testors Lime Gold or new Testors "one coat' Inca Gold, but I am leaning towards the lime. With the long weekend, i am hoping to get some serious work done on this.

That came out awesome. Well done! thanks for sharing the build-up with us. i sure learned a few things!

Yes, resin copies are available. Watch ebay or go to edeuce.com

This build is awesome. Not just the unique subject, but the techniques and methodology you are demonstrating as you progress thru the build. I, for one, am really looking forward to further installments!

Revell 69 Nova. Can This Be True?
Mr. Metallic replied to Len Woodruff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Why do so many people feel the need to be so negative around here? many of you are already ripping on kits that probably aren't even cut into tooling yet. Yes, i realize the industry is not doing great right now, but why rip apart these announcements? While the subjects may not be exactly what YOU want, they look like solid ideas that should provide money for other tooling. I just don't understand this mentality. -
How does this one compare to the Tamiya kit? Nice clean build, btw

Just trying to see if I can get these pics posted for you without a link. let me know if it works guys.
