  1. I love the direction this car is going in. Instead of white, how about a vanilla or off-white for the interior? I could find a good home for the grille if you don't want it.   I've got an edsel engined rod started that the grille would look great on
  2. Yes, the Tiger Shark was modified from the dream rod kit, but so was the real car modified in the same manner. Many people have been contemplating doing the dream rod specific parts in resin, but none are in production that I know of. Bob, the display is included in the re-release. I beleive the ball bearings they included may be the wrong size though
  3. Finally got some bench time, so I've been able to make a bit of progress. The body is clearcoated, needs to be waxed. All parts are painted and ready for assembly. I was hoping to have the first box stock one completed, but I fear I may be beaten by some more prolific modelers. Hope to finish it up this weekend. http://public.fotki.com/crstan/noslow-moti...ects/page3.html
  4. Not to correct you Ken, but I don't think the doors and trunk were ever "molded" open. I think they have always been part of the body and been up to the builder to open them up using the supplied plastic hinges. I could be wrong Thanks for the review.
  5. I like all of them, but the Caddy is just beautiful!!! Great lines, nice bodywork. Can you give us more details on what you have planned for it?
  6. Well, one week ago I did kit review on AMT's 2006 Camaro kit. As I'm building it I am finding out it is even better than I originally wrote in my review. I hope to have the buildup finished by next weekend, but here's a sneak peek into how it's shaping up so far. This Camaro is receiving the VA-1 package (vintage appearance-1) so I added stripes and big diameter Rally Wheels (by Marc Nellis) Color is Testors Italian Red and White laquers. http://public.fotki.com/crstan/noslow-moti...ects/page3.html
  7. Looking good. Love these kits!
  8. 62Rebel is looking for a '49 Ford. Crispy is talking about the all new '49 Merc that Revell is doing. Also, Rebel, are you talking about the '53 F-100 3n1 or the flip-nose street rod?
  9. Welcome to mainland living. Aren't you excited? Welcome back, lol!
  10. I live about an hour and a half from Dyersville, thats why my LHS got theirs yesterday. Everyone else should have them next week, depending on their distributor
  11. I guess the front fenders are correct. Rest of the body looks pretty spot on too. Engine cover looks right too, although there doesn't seem to be anything to fill the gap between the radiator and the plenum in the kit. I guess I will find out during assembly. I might change my grille to this setup Follow this link to nice pics of the 2 concept cars http://www.fastcoolcars.com/06-07camaro.htm
  12. AMT/Ertl 2006 Chevy Camaro Let me begin by saying this. This review is based on just what's in the box. I am planning on building this kit right away, so stay tuned for a buildup review. I have not seen the actual car in person, so any judgements of accuracy are solely based on the pictures I've seen of the concept car. That being said, lets get to it. Well, lets start off with the first thing you see, the box. The layout is pretty nice, and the photography is well done. Unlike most of their offering the last few years, this box has multiple pictures of different areas of the car so you can see what you are getting(instead of the same picture repeated on every panel) The body is very nice. While the pictures I've seen seem to show front fenders that are more pronounced than the ones in the kit, they still look good. The body itself is one peice except for the rear valence panel where the exhaust exits. Chrome body parts include the mirrors, wipers, exhaust tips, head and taillight bezels, gas cap and chevy bowtie for the grille. The two front grilles are seperate, but are molded in body color. Taillight lenses are clear red, and there are clear headlight bulbs hidden behind clear covers. The engine builds up a bit differently than your average kit. The bottom of the transmission and oil pan are molded together. The top of the tranny and engine block/cylinder heads, and front cover all mount to the oil pan peice. Seperate fan belt, fan, chrome valve covers and chrome exhaust headers come next. Last of all is the intake plenum/cover. It looks a little flat, but I will reserve judgement until it is installed on the engine. The interior builds up platform style with the center console molded onto the floorpan. Front buckets seats and the rear bench are all 2 peice units. The side panels seem kind of bland style-wise, but I have not seen pics of the real cars door panels, so for now they look pretty good. The dash has odd looking molded guage faces, but that's OK because there are decals to cover them. There is a sperate column and steering wheel, pedal assembly and stick shifter. Wheels and tires are really nice looking. Kudos to AMT for tooling the attchment points for the wheels on the back instead of the front so the rims wont need to be touched up. Big diameter 5 spoke wheels mount into very low profile tires with an agressive tread pattern. The chassis is very well engraved, but most of the parts that attatch to it seem kind of rounded off or soft in detail. That may be prototypical. The front wheels look like they could be poseable with minimal work. Disc brakes with molded in calipers mount on all four corners. The interior attaches positivly to the chassis, very similar to the way Revell did with their '05 Mustang. It very nice to have the positve location feature, lets hope it locates as well in the body as the Mustangs did. The one peice exhaust system looks OK. The underhood area is a seperate peice that mounts to the body. The engraved detail on the 2 peice radiator is VERY nice! The shock tower brace and windsheild washer bottle are the only seperate peices under the hood. The side glass is seperate parts, giving the builder the option of windows up or down. The front and rear glass are attached together and mount inside the body ala old school tooling techniques. I'm not sure if the real car has flush fitting glass like most new cars do, so before I start my buildup I'll have to research this some more and see if it is feesible on the model if accuracy necessitates it. The decal sheet is very small and not very clearly registered however. Overall I am pretty impressed with this kit, which I haven't been with an AMT/Ertl kit in quite some time. Most of the parts are pretty well engraved, and the detail level and parts breakdown ranges from acceptable to pretty good. I'm gonna start working on a buildup right away, so hopefully within a couple weeks I'll have it finished. Stay tuned.
  13. Nice work on the VDub
  14. Very nice Lyle. How and where did you modify the frame to lenghten it? I've got a build coming up with the same configuration. Yours is so well done I was just hoping to get a couple tips.
  15. Check out ebay for 1/8 aftermarket stuff. There are a few guys out there who specialize in it. However, they only sell a few things on ebay, they have MUCH BIGGER selections in their ebay stores. Check it out.
  16. I'm liking it so far. Nice job on the tank.
  17. Just because it's not useful to you doesn't mean it's not to someone else. Not flaming you, but you do tend to come off as overly harsh sometimes. Yes, everyone is entitled to their opnions and I understand that. Looking forward to seeing more of your great builds though And no, I probably wont be buying one of those tips either. But I'm sure many people will find it useful
  18. I've started a fotki album collecting them as I run across them. Only finished ones please. I give credit when I can so if you see yours and I haven't given you credit please let me know (full names please, not "aliases") http://public.fotki.com/crstan/revell-112-choppers/
  19. WalMart had them locally. I say had because none of them stay on the shelves long. Restocked constantly and still sell out. It's a good sign, hopefully after the last two in the current series come out late this month we can see a new line with different frames and motors? Maybe revell will announce soemthing at Toy Fair in February? This line is a goldmine revell, don't stop mining it!!!
  20. Adapt the front clip from an AMT '41 Plymouth to the wagonrod body. Throw a cool Mopar motor in it, problem solved Dang it, now I've given myself another idea. Build it so I won't have too! PLEASE!!!
  21. I've been so busy that I kept forgetting to bring the camera to the bench with me. And, since I'm pretty lazy going upstairs to get it when I'm already downstairs is just out of the question. So, anyway, here's the stuff on my bench. This is the beginnings of another revell chopper for me. The head tube has been re-raked. The rear fender is getting extended, and i think I'm gonna split the tank and widen it. It's based on the Crusader but since I started it I purchased the Torch, and decided to use the wheels. This bike is going to be very "clean" and smooth. I'll probably be adding more "bodywork" to it. Next up is and AMT '72 Chevy/GMC longbed. It's getting smoothed, rolled pans front and rear, molded in tailgate, custom tonneu, relocated tallight. The motor is from the revell '67 Chevelle, wheels and tires from same kit. Interior is a modified unit from the AMT 90 Chevy SS454 pickup (no molded in seat like the 72 kit has). It'll be curbside, so I can slam it down low, but with an "Arter rake". Next is a '66 olds "442" Kustom. I've molded in the bumpers. It'll be a mid 60's style custom. Clear tube grille. Metalflake roof, side pipes. Haven't decided what to do for an engine though. Customs don't usually pack as much opwer as a 442 under the hood. Maybe I'll dress it down or switch it out, any suggestions? Last up is my '32 Chevy "nomad?"(no creative name thought up yet) It's an AMT phantom vickie body, revell speedwagon cowl and a sectioned and narrowed AMT '55 nomad roof. MPC '32 Chevy grille and hood. Will run a '32 Ford chassis. Not sure on an engine yet, maybe the one from the Revell Cali Wheels 56 Chevy. this will be a newstalgia style build, think along the lines of the latest deuces from Lobeck. There's lots more going on too, as always. Follow the link to more pics, and as always comments and questions are welcome. http://public.fotki.com/crstan/noslow-moti...ects/page3.html
  22. Bill, the color is Model Master enamel FS 36622 Comouflage Gray
  23. I don't think I have seen one of these kits built that I didn't like. Nice job so far!
  24. Very cool!!!
  25. Bill, here's a couple things I ran into while building mine. First, you will probably want to file down the tops of the interior b pilars. They prevent everything from fitting up inside the body properly if not modified. Also, my healight buckets hit the inner fenders when I tried to install them, did anyone else have this problem. Looks good so far Bill, looking forward to see how your Future experimant turns out. BTW, I had no trouble painting the plastic with duplicolor primer and tamiya spray paints. http://public.fotki.com/crstan/finished_mo...stang-gt-tuner/
