Any details on the 1/8 '32 Ford? Maybe we'll be getting a 3 or 5 window that's been rumored for a few years now?????   I too was hoping to see a 51 merc, but am still very happy to have a moden tooling of a chopped merc. If it was stock I'd be hoping for a spiced up flattie, but since it's chopped I hope we get a caddy or olds mill, there are plenty of great flatheads already available.

Revell Chopper Build Off
Mr. Metallic replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Is that the trailer body from the Monogram '37 ford? Great idea! -
what style wheels are in this kit?
Mr. Metallic replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The '96 had the wire-like wheels, maybe they changed them for the reissue, but I doubt it. -
I've really grown to love the board since I joined up. I especially love the On the Bench area, I really enjoy seeing WIP and how you guys do all your amazing modeling things. This is just a suggestion. Would anyone else like to see a seperate area to post our completed models? Stuff gets kind of lost i think because it's posted mixed together with all the in-progress stuff. I'm not even sure if this is feesible, since it would require an alteration to the board itself. Anyone else think this is a good idea. It's just an suggestion. Thanks for the great board!

You don't have to buy a diecats to get a springer, there is a nice one in the recently reissued AMT Shaker Trike. however, unless you find one cheap you may be better off with the diecast. Replicas and Miniatures of Md just announced some stuff for these choppers at Toledo, but I'd love to see some other stuff too, more vintage style stuff. For the springer front end here's a 3 part idea 1) Cast the whole thing 2) Cast just the brackets, and leave the aluminum or platic downtubes up to the builder, letting them set their own ride height 3) Cast the brackets and include the aluminum as a set

I'll try to get better pics of the grille for you next time. It's mastered by Lyle, and is super nice. It's designed to work with the MCG photoetch grille, but I'm not going that route.

I think the shadow may be making them look fatter than they are. They are from the AMt '62 Catalina Custom froma few years ago. I grab those kits cheap whenever I see them, great parts kit. Button tuft interior, white walls, sweet chromed steel wheels, sidepipes, clear steering wheel, beuatiful detailed engine, the list goes on.

Based on Revells '65 Chevelle Z-16 kit. It's got the wheel covers from the Revell '59 Impala, straight 6 from the Trumpeter '63 Nova, and the rest is mostly modified from kit parts. I am also using the open grille from Rep+Min of Md. You can see the colors I've chosen in the last pic, as well as the newly lowered suspension parts. Thanks for looking, and as always. comments and questions are welcome. Click the link for more pics. http://public.fotki.com/crstan/noslow-moti...ects/page2.html

We are being spammed
Mr. Metallic replied to Mr. Metallic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No problem. It was pretty early and I was the only one here. I'm just bummed because I couldn't see what he was trying to show me.  -
We are being spammed. Don't open any posts from Mopohatardder. Someone should probably delete all "his" posts

Well, this model is Randy Meyers fault (aka Randfink). We had been talking recently about what to do with the Shaker Trike kit once you steal the cool springer front end like a lot of people seem to be doing since the Revell choppers came out. Then in the latest issue of the KKIM newsletter he had some renderings of some ideas for the kit. Well, I was blown away by the Lil'Coffin inspired trike he had thought up. With only a week before our semi-annual meeting I decided to suprise him by actually building his idea. I had pulled off a "one week wonder" previously, so I felt that I would be able to do it again. All I really used from the Shaker Trike was the frame, handle bars and seat. I wanted something more unique than the SBC that comes with the kit, but couldn't think of anything different in 1/12 scale. I decided since this was a flight of fancy I could mix scales. I plundered a Minicraft 1/16 Model A hot rod kit(If you've never built one of these, I highly recommend it, the detail and buidability is top rate!) I took the engine and rearend. Then I attacked my parted out revell Lil' Coffin kit. I took the body and grille shell. The rest is all Revell chopper. The color is Tamiya Mica Red over white. The skulls in the seats are from the new Hot Wheels rat rod pickup, the shifter skull is the 1/8 Little T shifter skull, and the taillight skulls are from the Hot Wheels Rigor Motor. Rear grille is from an AMT '49 Merc, narrowed and flattened out. The frame also received a more dramatic rake. This was a lot of fun. It was built in 7 days, in conjunction with the 3 other models that I finshed up. What a blast I had last week. It has spurred me on to finish a bunch of other ongoing projects I've got started, so stay tuned, and thanks for looking. http://public.fotki.com/crstan/finished_mo...coffin-chopper/

Inspired by the cool buildups I've seen of this Jimmy Flintstone body I was inspired to build my own version, but I wanted to set it apart from all the other vintage hot rod styled builds, so here's mine. I drew inspiration from Barris update of the Chrisman Bros Model A salt flats car. I just loved the color scheme and details he added, so that's how I built mine. Colors are Tamiya Pearl White and Transparent Orange. Rear wheels are from the AMT Boyd Coddington '57 Chevy and the fronts are from the Revell Roth Outlaw. Side pipes are from the AMT Black Force and front suspension is part scratchbuilt, part AMT Prowler snap kit. Thanks for looking, sorry about the dark pics, didn't realize how dark they were till now. I'll have to take some new ones. http://public.fotki.com/crstan/finished_mo...barris-tribute/

This was a very quick build, done as part of the KKIM tribute to founder John Berry. It's a Flintstone HSO Rareflow resin kit. If you know those kits, the body is a very heavy slab of resin. I chopped off the original roof and added bubble tops made from 1/48 fighter jet canopies. I think they complement the flowing lines of the body well. Seats from and AMT Prowler snap kit and headlights from an AMT 49 Merc. That's it, bare bones quicky build. Lots of fun. Thanks for looking, follow the link to more pics. http://public.fotki.com/crstan/finished_mo...flow-bubbletop/

Revell Chopper Build Off
Mr. Metallic replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Love the tank. i have started a Crusader based bike. i also raked out the forks and my rear also now rides on an axle. It's an easy mod, much more sturdy, and authentic! Yours looks great so far! -
The moons aligned and everything just hapened to fall into place to finish all of these projects at once 4 in 3 days time.. I'm usually good for 5 or 6 completions per year, so this is a freak occurence. I guess mentality change to having all these irons in the fire at once is finally paying off! Here is my Revell Aces Wild based chopper, called Xile since it was inspired by the builds of Russel Mitchell at Exile Cycles. I really like the no-nonsense, hot rod mentality of Russ, and love his bikes. First up, I modified the seat to be the external sprung type. I flipped over the drive belt so I could make it into an open design, then just added a scratchbuilt cover and some photoetch bits to detail it. I eliminated the rear disc brake and instead the drive disc now has a caliper attached to it. I also added a suicide shifter with brake line lock (for easy hill takeoffs). I also scratchbuilt a new battery box and used a 1/25 tank for an oil tank under the seat. Shortened and narrowed the handlebars, shortened the forks, and used two kit rear pipes with extended tips to make a matching exhaust. It may seem low-key without the bright colors and fancy "tins", but I had a blast building it and will be building many more. Thanks for looking. http://public.fotki.com/crstan/finished_mo...e/xile-chopper/

If you wanna go detailed Rick Hanmore wrote an excellent article on making a street rod out of these kits when they came out back in '98. It was in SAE, if you want the exact info I can find it for you. Looks killer already. BTW, when it's finished I'd love to add it to my Galaxie Ltd 46-48 Chevies album. http://public.fotki.com/crstan/galaxie_ltd_46-48/

Had a great turnout, lots of models on the tables and guys hanging out talking about model cars. Brian Johnson organized a suprise tribute to the club founder John Berry, for his years of service and inspiration. Here's just a sampling of the entries. For those of you unfamiliar with the club it was formed in 1984 as a spilinter of the KKOA. We meet twice year as a show and swap for members only, but new participants are always welcome. October 06 TNMCC Meeting PICS
Mr. Metallic replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
Who is building that pink custom? It looks like it might be Vince's stuff? I really miss the club. Great bunch of guys, and great builders. Fortunatly I found a great bunch of builders here, but they only have meeting twice a year. Fortunatly we do get together during the winter months to have Build and Bulls. There's a concept that needs to make it's way East. Thanks for the pics Billy! -
Nice job. Love these kits!

Boards look like the ones from the revell '30 ford sedan kit, I think?
