41 Phantom Willys Roadster begins..! (Update) 3/20
Hizoot replied to Hizoot's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Thanks for the kind words guys, Sad they maybe short lived as I'm not fond of "how to" for myself anyway. Yes I have no doubt you're itchen to know where that DuVall windshield came from & how I installed it. The problem here is that it's the first time I've done this technique & I'm NOT sure it will work or not. I don't want to say anything about this car until I know if it will work. If the project stalls, I'll tell you why & let you make your own decision at that time. What I can do is talk about sectioning a Willys just to clarifty my attempt at this. First here's a small, photo of Dwayne Jone's SWCook Willys ; This was done by simply lifting the fenders & is an effective technique but on my project, the mid was sectioned & the hood reworked to form the new body line. Then the excess at the bottom was trimmed just below the fender. Why all this hub-bub in the first place..? Simple, it was not graphted onto a Willys..! I stoled the intire front, windshield hood & all, off another project that had stalled. While I'm pleased with my new facelift, I have no idea if it will work. To be a good sport, I will show you a photo of the new wedged body line as I simply "lifted" the rear fenders 1/8th inch (not as much) as the fronts & trimmed the excess... PS - George, there's nothing wrong with the stock kit to my knowledge, I just want a one of a kind car. Please read the top post again. Hizoot -
Well last time I didn't make too many friends here but as I said. I decided that it was better to risk ridicule & or a stalled project than make a boring model. I just hope to get it done on time...! Well that still holds true but here's some inspiration I picked up at the Portland roadster show. No doubt this has added to my already huge "to do" list. Speaking of adding, I set fender on fender so my rod will look phat; So far, so good & this head rest will be molded in; I think I entered the wrong contest as this could be the ugliest roadster of all time as the body does not want to co-opperate; Still have a long way to go as I'm going to throw the book at this poor thing, stay tuned... I've heard of that guy too, What a klown..! You know there's some guy out there named Bissinger, a real trouble maker. Ever heard of him..? I'm coming up to Portland roadster show John, so why don't you "come on down" & share some tall tales with us..? George; you're close... Mysterion + Boyds Aluma Coupe = Alunatic & the tires are from AMT snap kit The Ram-Blurrr... Thanks gents, Hizoot

Just thought I'd share my newest build with my newest group; It's just a slammer but sometimes the simplest looking builds are the toughest..! Enjoy ; Hizoot

Hey Jim, I'm doing well & still hang out at Daves CC#2 but just not as much... Last year I had way too many obligations for this contest but this year could be different. I understand you need guidelines but you know me, I live outside the box, so the idea of building a phantom like the one's I've seen the last several years at the GNRS is only natural for me. As I said, I didn't ask just for myself & if we see 2 or 3, 41 Willys phantom roadsters, then that alone will make a statement. Lots of beautiful cars to build & so I thank you for your understanding on this issue. Funny thing is that at this years GNRS they offered rule books over the PA system that included next years changes. I'm still kicking myself in the butt for not grabbing one ! I have no problem with bragging rights as the only reward but maybe we can get Gregg & or Darryl to do some coverage for this..? The worst that can happen is they say no... Just a thought & I'd like to help if possible. Until then, I'll get my current projects finished as well as organize my ideas for the WMBMR 2009 contest..! Hizoot

I doubt ANY of that is from 1940 or any other cars I've seen as of late. I agree cars since 1937 have been refered to as "roadsters" but others like the AC Cobra are considered "real roadsters". Still that's not my point as all I wish to do is see it opened up more to creative ideas as I've illustrated above... Not just for myself but for ALL builders & scales. The definition of a roadster that I'm aware of is; a vehicle designed without the side or rear windows, (new or old) the tops (cloth or hard) just being an add on... If you look at the modern AMBR winners like Boydster 1 & 2, Foose Impression & such, you'll see no detachable windshields... Hizoot

I don't think we have anything against large scale models, At least I don't BUT I do agree there's a difference between all scales. Yes folks size matters & I believe Matt's right as some of the best models are in fact large scale. That's a problem if you ask me, James patterned this after the classic Oakland & Grand National shows & one size fits all there... I don't understand the pre 38 thing yet as that's not part of their rules, still many local contests around the country seperate large & small scale models & there's a reason for that. Paul Canney now has a large scale board & he might be willing to host a contest strictley for large scale, that would be wild if you ask me... As long as I'm dropping names, I think Lyle W. has a good point about the lack of promotion during the year & it's easy to do as I've done it myself before. I think the addition of PIW photos should help with that. I hope to enter but still want to know more about what I'd be commiting to - Just my 2 centabos, Hizoot

Hey James, I've been watching this since last year when you posted over at Dave's Rally, I even voted & enjoyed all the builds. BUT before I jump in & get involved I have a couple questions... 1st; Why does the car (entry) need to be 1937 or before..? I don't know what the actual AMBR rules state , I know I,ve seen cars from 1940 there. I'd like to build a little beyond 37'... 2nd; Is this just for bragging rights or is there more to it..? Not that it matters much but I think Gregg would want to do a feature on something like this. If I'm going to invest large chunks of time inti this, I'd like to know what's at the end of the rainbow. I'm sure you understand..! Hizoot

I think Tim would be excited to hear your humble little "challenge" build has grown into this monster..! But you're going to have to tell him, I'm not going to say a word. Personally I think we delivered him a 1 - 2 punch..! Whatever my Buggin - U didn't do squash his hopes, I think this will finish him off..! In any case, I'll stop by here when I can & you keep building until I can collect my tacos..! Good luck, Hizoot

The Zoot sayz, YOU CAN RUN BUT YOU CAN'T HIDE..! Really like your belt & pully system, very clever Scott ! Still I feel this will be done in time for GSL, that's right, I'm willing to bet perfectly good tacos this will be there complete... Hizoot
