  1. Jeff, It's easy to become confused by this but the term " acrylic" refers to Acrycil; a liquid plastic that when dry offers an extra hard, glossy finish to most oil or gum based paints. A good example of acrylic is Future Floor Finish which is not wax but 100% pure Acrycil or "acrylic" plastic. The word enamal normaly refers to the oil based paints used in home & automotive applications. Therefor Acrylic Enamal would be simply an oil based paint with acrycil added to it. As for Alclad, I don't use it but I know you can apply it over most all paints acrylic or not. Just don't put oil based over it for a clear coat. However I'm told you can put Future acrylic over it. Hope this helps..! Hizoot
  2. I remember that from the Desert Classic Danno, It was very popular & I hope you did well in the club challange..! Hizoot
  3. Yes Kevin, You know who I am & you saw these at Pegasus. Was passing by & thought Nick might like to see these..! Gotta run, Hizoot
  4. I've done a few but like most everthing else I do they're highly modified. Huntington Beach Police Rambler "to protect & to surf" Rare construction photo of my Full Force Custom from Black Force Kit. Hizoot
  5. Thanks for the info. guys I appreciate it..! Hizoot
  6. Hi everyone, I'm considering ordering some tires from arrowhead aluminum as I've had good luck with those tires in the past. However it seems the company has had numberous issues & it takes longer to get them if at all. I understand several people have had problems with them but remember, I want facts & not rants. I've only placed one small order with them a long time ago, anyone have a recent ordering experience with them..? Hizoot
  7. WOW Alyn, This looks like a true labor of love for you..! Very interesting project & well done, luv the scratch building ! Hizoot
  8. You're correct in that Don Hasn't driven since the end off 1995. But in 1996 he put Larry Dixon in the drivers seat & became a team owner. What the BIG question realy was about is not $$$, Don hassponcorship oppertunities. It was about racing in the 50th Winternationals next month as Don won that (his 1st) back in 1965. Hizoot
  9. I guess this is off topic but I didn't know where else to post it... In the beginning I wasn't much of a Prudhomme fan BUT I've gotta say, "WHAT A CAREER" this guy's had..! He won me over finally when he teamed Larry Dixon with Dick La Haie, still this guy has helped write drag race history. Like him or not, you simply can't argue with that kind of success! For the full story; http://www.nhra.com/story/2010/1/7/prudhomme-announces-retirement-from-drag-racing/ If you have any Don Prudhomme stories & or photos or "Snake" models built that you'd like to honor him & us with, please post them below... PS - For all you schemers & dreamers out there, this means that Dick La Haie trained crew chief Donnie Bender is looking for work, any takers..? Thank You, Hizoot
  10. As normal I've been away from here, But a Huge thanks for all the kind words about my Willys. It looks like there will be no contest held this year but that's ok as I still have a trophy... my 41 Willys..! Plus I'll take it to the real GNRS comming in Jan. Good luck & thanks, Hizoot
  11. Real nice stuff there Dave, Seems as if suddenly 50's Fords are popular as of late. Here's my Edrhero I started not long ago..! Hizoot
  12. Some of you have seen this but for others, it's still new..! Hizoot
  13. Haven't been around but what a fine job you did with this..! Inspirering to say the least. Hizoot
  14. Soooo for all of you who want to be Californians, TODAY we have 3 wildfires, the Santa Ana winds are starting to blow 25 - 35 mph (a calm day) and it's was 105 degrees right outside my door... COME ON DOWN...! But I love the Topolino Dave, you seem to get around to projects I don't start like the 33 Willys P/U, I have one but only a few hours in it. I also have Anglia fenders but I can't bring myself cutting into Simple Simon yet..! Hizoot
  15. Good luck with that Peter, You gotta admire someone who wants to expand or improve their skills. I've thought that it would be cool to make a scratch build body & carve my way into history. BUT when it came time to execuit, like on my Full Force Kustom (shown below) I found that I needed a guide & would rather build up rather than carving down... Now that's just me , you may fair much better but either way, you'll be looking at several months for this to develope..! It seems to me the "hard part" will be those subtle lines you'll want as the basic shape is revieled. Again, GOOD LUCK hope you do it & hope you enjoy the photos... Hizoot
  16. Dave, I think it's great you're giving the newbie's a paint tutorial & your paint system obviously speaks for itself. Plus Virgil is right as that Plasti-Kote primer is a good foundation for most any paint situation. But that's the problem, in several states Plasti-Kote & other lacquer products are NOT available due to unrealistic air quality regulations. Both in AZ & here in CA these products you recommend are in fact, non exsistant..! I'm an old school painter myself & can appreciate your methods but I think we need to advise your readers that not all of these products are available in your area. Sorry if I sound like disclaimer Dan here but you need to think outside your box for this. Thanks, Hizoot
  17. I think you've got this low rider thing down to an art..! As always, the paint is steller & you're one of the few guys still using the old school panel painting techniques. That firebird is killer Gary, & where do ya come up with those 5 spokes on the Malibu..? In any case, you still da man with a low plan..! Hizoot
  18. Good call Steven, I could have tucked the rear of my full fade away's tighter to the body & many would have... BUT that's the problem as I don't want just an other flowing lead sled as there are many "hot rod" elements surrounding those fenders. Yes the front is fat & a little heavy but it helps shirnk the oversized DuVall windshield IMHO. I extended the rear fenders as well & I did have a moment of choice & dared to be different to satisfy that hot rod look..! Do me a favor Steven & wait until it's photoed complete, then tell me what you think as I'd like to know, fair enough..? Respectfully, Hizoot
  19. Hey thanks Scott & everyone else as well, It makes me feel good when I get positive feedback on my custom engines. I keep telling myself "this is it, the last one" then I hear good remarks about them & my ego takes to the clouds..LOL... The car color is kustom made but not that far from Scott's Uncertain C. I call it Hot Cinner Pearl a mix of HOK Cinnimon Pearl with a pinch of red dye in it. If you don't have oil soliable red dye, then just use a few drops of candy apple red..! Mix until a bronze fog appears & serve with your favorite appitizer. BTW- congrats to Mr. Colmer as his cars represents us So. Cal. gents at GSL this year & he has 2 photos in MCM to prove it ! I guess Gregg just can't get enough of that Yellow car, well Scott niether can we..! WELL DONE BUD - say Hi to Nani & the kids... Hizoot
  20. Hi one & all, I haven't posted much as of late so here's a Willys update for you..! Do you remember any of this..? That was then, this is now..! The body is now complete & the paint is smooth & shiney..! For the final chapter in this saga, please vote at www.automodeling.com after Nov. 30th 2009. The finished Willys will be posted with other roadsters for the 2009 WMBMR title..! Thanks, Hizoot
  21. Don't worry, if this person is caught, they'll get plenty trouble from several people..! I just think it's a shame that there was so much overreaction with this. Finger pointing is sooo very easy & a bad reputation so very hard to overcome..! I still think San Diego is one of the better places on earth & know somehow, someway & someday we'll have the return of another 1st class contest in the southland..! Hizoot
  22. Felize comple anos chico grande'..! See ya at the boarder next weekend homes..! Hizoot
  23. Gregg, I'm not sure exactly what you mean about loss of wheels unless it's another in an endless parade of LA insults. Sorry bud, but you'll have to do better than that..! We all roll on 24's now (unless ya park it in South Central) I was born & raised in the southland so I already have a thick skin there Kahuna. Ok, back to reality or the lack of... We have gearhead entertainment in the form of the Peterson Automotive Museum (corner of Fairfax & La Brea) in w. LA. Plus we have the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Museum on the grounds of the Fairplex Pomona,CA (the home of organized drag racing). When you came to the Grand National Roadster show, you were standing about 100 yards from it. I'm a volunteer at this one & can get you the dollar tour gratis. If history is not your cup of tea, then you might want a shop tour of Barris or Foose or something like that. I live very close to So Cal Speed Shop, again in Pomona. I might be able once again to get ya a tour of some kind. As for Barris & Foose, you're on your own, too bad Boyd passed, I knew him & Jo... If you'd rather keep to scale fun, the local club is called the Southern California Kitbashers & I'm like a 1/2 member (long story, ask later). If I ask soon, I bet we could have a BBQ of local builders & or hang out by the pool. You can expect temps in LA to be around 100 +- a couple as it is right now until late Oct... So maybe a poolside chill is in order..? Like I said. I'm a local & know everything from the local YMCA to the XXX clubs, so it's your call (at least after 8am) as we are all tired from stealing wheels & hubcaps the night before..! Mahalo, Hizoot
  24. Yes Gregg, The word is out & most local modelers want to attend..! I've been hearing something from Darryl about every week on this. Here's his link to this; http://lowerleftcoastnnl.weebly.com/ 5:am on what day Gregg..? Not sure what you have in mind, I live near Pegasus but it's not open until 11 am & you'll want to be rolling by then if on the 9th. Can you land at Ontario or meet up at the NHRA Museum in Pomona..? I can play host for the most part but I don't know what you expect..! The vendor section is sold out so bring some $$$ for all those goodies you gotta have ! Hizoot
