MCM May/June showed up today!
Hizoot replied to RodBurNeR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Geeez Harry, And here I was thinkin you'd blame it all on Gregg... You sure know how to spoil my fun...LOL..! Hizoot -
Scott, Now I see what you need..! Those would have to be S&S as Detail Master & MCG would be attached to a parts tree. I had some back in the day but ran out. You could / should try Arrowhead Aluminum as they now have the right to re-pop that old S&S stuff. www.arrowheadaluminum.com ??? or ebay. I bought some wiring looms from them & it's the exact same stuff..! BTW didn't get to ask if you got any photos of Terry Ross's work (old Willys or anything) if so can you foreward a copy to me..? YOu & Nani have my address in your book..! Would like to see them. Congrats again your how to artical. Hizoot

Thanks for the good words guys, I appreciate the efforts..! Not sure what color it will be BUT I do know this needs to be ALL about the graceful body lines, plus I have what I think is an interesting engine between the rails so I'd like to feature that as well... Therefore no crazy paint or wild graphics this time, can't speak for next..! There's a couple ideas floating around my head for now... More on my WIP Willys to come. Hizoot

Thanks for the kind words above gents, Not much progress on my WMBMR contest entry as of late because I've been on a job hunt. The good news is that I now have more to do than just body work & have started the front suspension: This will be the basic ride height & I'll use real (metal) springs instead of the kit supplied... Also with the interior near complete, I can now tell you that the DuVall windschield came from a Jimmy Flinstone AMT Black Force Panel resin kit. Then I stitched it to the front of a 37 Ford before I put it on the Willys; I'm behind on my photography & it's taken it's share of grooming but with a huge to do list still looming, you can count on more visits back to Willys PIW land... Like the custom pro-mod motor I've started for this..! Until then, Hizoot

I like it as we don't see enough LSR cars/trucks or bikes on the contest or show tables. I hope Scott Colmer brings his Low Cal. Special up to GSL for display. Even though it might not be finished, I think you'll love it & you might even enjoy talking to Scott as well... ...LOL..! Keeeep going Terry, it looks good to me ! Hizoot

I know that's OOB for the most part but it packs a punch..! I luv that modern interior with the aluminum accents & as always, your craftsmanship is 1st rate..! Can't wait to see this finished Mark, well done. Hizoot

Thanks for posting that Gary, Kinda brings back fond memories... I'm glad to hear you're still painting but what's it like in So. Carolina..? Just doesn't sound like the hot bed of auto customization (except for yourself). Keep up the good work & if you need more sanding sticks, I bet I can find a few for ya..! Hizoot
-
Hey Gary, You still da man..! Liked your work then & like it now..! Welcome & I'm glad you're still alive & building. PS- What ever became of the Uncertain Tree..? Hizoot

Scott, As you know I'm not a decal expert BUT I can tell you that microsol & set & all those other setting solutions do only one thing. They are designed to soften decals. You are applying to flat panels & shouldn't even need them. The idea of applying Future to your decals is fine & will protect them from the lacquer finish you're using. But your air brush probably doesn't apply enough to make a difference... Try using a cotton swab to apply the Future & wait a full 24 hrs. before touching anything. A new decal sheet may be in order & if you wish, I have a new interior sheet that looks a lot like carbon fiber & you're welcome to stop by & we'll try it out..! Most of all, stay calm & good luck... Back in the 1980's, A then younger Mike Flynn was an employee of Pegasus Hobby in Montclare, CA. Mike soon noticed that customers would admire his personal builds dissplayed in the shop case for all to see. These customers would ask several questions, most of them pertaining to the various parts of his builds, in other words "where did & how did you..." and so on. Having noticed the need to de-mystify the parts he used, most of them ordered from the new cottage industries, he began to order extra parts from these vendors. Soon the walls of Pegasus Hobby were lined with photo etched & spun aluminum patrs from blowers to entire wheel & tire combo's. In fact, it was Mike along with help from then partner Rick Hicks who came up with the idea to produce low rider wheels from old corvette hubcaps & Miatta tires. With this new explosion of parts also came many extra "how to" questions & the solution for that was a model car cruise night. The old tire kicking, I'll show you mine & run what you brung meetings soon became a success & the 3rd Saturday night event took on a life of it's own. Both Rick & Mike parted ways with Pegasus Hobby & while we lost Rick , Mike still stops by to see & enjoy time with his former customers & friends. Last night, he did so for what may be the last time as Mike is moving to Washington state to join his son. It was great to see him again in his element & serveral old timers showed up to send him off. Now a local legend, Mike's contributions to the hobby & easy going humor have gone far beyond our boundries. I feel it safe to say that not only I, but many So. Cal. model makers will miss you Mike. Good luck, God's speed & look out Washington, you're getting a good one..! Hizoot

Happy Easter to you & yours Dave, NNL in one week, those flyers all seemed to find a home, some in Montclare & some made it to Del Mar, so someone must have an interest, if not now then sometime..! Hizoot

At last the body is coming around & you can see the lines I want. The list of body mods reads something like this; Remove top from base kit. Install different sectioned front clip with Du Vaul windschield. Reinstall front fenders to become inners. Raise rear fenders as to section. Add & extend rear fenders from donor kit. Wedge section body to match fender lines. Add headrest from old AMT 62 corvette kit & mold. Pancake, section & extend hood to accept new (different) 37 Ford hood. Add full fender extensions made from Chezoom kit. Add & extend outer front fenders from donor kit. Recess & replace front headlights from 37 Ford. Relocate & scribe new door gaps. Extend front grill opening & blend. Recess rear deck for license plate housing. Install tunnels (tubes) for rear "frenched" tail lights. I think thats everything, the rest is just gromming tweeking & massaging until perfectly smooth, at least I hope; The hard part for me will be this interior as it needed to be sliced & diced as well, plus the front opened up (widened) to fit the new front end... I still have no frame or exact ride hight yet & no motor planned eighter but this is kinda how I see it in my dreams..! Hizoot

Sounds kewl, I don't know about magic but I'd like to see your place when you have the time. I heard that Mike F. is leaving So. Cal. That looks like his lathe, did you buy up his goodies & why didn't you leave any for me..? Annn Toe Ney I like the Willys, I'm working on one but still have a long ways to go... Good luck with the magic, Hizoot

What is this "chop shop" there Biggy..? Hizoot
-
I like this Clay, But I can't say much for the dead cat..! Interesting choice of color & yes the BMF is tough to say the least but looks like you'll need to highlight the door handles & maybe rear emblem. Even if in testors brush on you'll be better off... Good luck, Hizoot

1962 Model Car cover model.
Hizoot replied to 84vanagon's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dave this IS just toooo cooool for schooool, I still have fond memoies of my old builds but to have one as a cover queen..! Well, like the TV commercial says " PRICELESS " ! Hizoot -
Dave, It's big, it's bad, it's beautiful, & it's beat up now how kewl is that..? Hizoot
-
Hi George, I don't know if you refer to me in this but I've had the pleasure of seeing Dave's beautiful 1940 Hollywood Grahm before, up close & personal. I saw it at GSL XX along with several of his projects & yes they do inspire... Hizoot

41 Phantom Willys Roadster begins..! (Update) 3/20
Hizoot replied to Hizoot's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Ok well, Here's some more ugly for ya guys, I managed to re-angle the headlights slightly & install phull phade phenders; Hizoot -
Dave, I never realized you were into lead sleds that much..! I'm liken' the Caddy with the Chezoom roof line BUT have you considered a slight wedge section out of the sides..? From the back of the front fender @ 0 inches to the front of the rear fender @ 3/32nd inch... This would lower the appearance of the rear without more suspension work. Dwayne Jones did a 49 Merc simular to this proceedure & I think it could work on your Caddy as well... Makes the front ride high & the back squat..! In any case, I like them all, even the 29 boat tail - Hizoot

BOB PAETH PORTLAND CLASSIC CONTEST
Hizoot replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
And you should feel encouraged Dave, It was a very good show in all scales & sizes. Had fun meeting you, the club members & the Paeth family. Even without an award, this contest was well attended, fair & down right fun..! Expect even better photos next year as Mr. Fletcher has/is getting some detailed instruction in that regard, so you can share this event with everyone. Take care & as Arnold Schwartzinegger says, "I'll be BACK..!" Hizoot -
Nice start, I want to do a classic pick up someday soon, sooooo I'll be watchin ya..! Hizoot
-
Dave, As I've said before both you & your club(s) SABA were great host..! Add meeting the Paeth family, including his lovely wife Jan & well, that made it perfect. I could have not had any more fun if I tried. Not just the honor of winning a big award but meeting so many good modelers with wide tastes, made the show an experience I will not soon forget..! So now I offer a small peek into my view of the Portland roadster show & the model car contest; It has to begin here, Bob's build & this model car show. The reason I went was to learn more about this man & the legacy he'll leave behind. Thanks to Dave(s), Ron, the Paeth family & the creative memebers of their club, I was able to learn so much more than I ever dreamed of & I can't thank you enough..! Speaking of "creative members" this 59 rat was just one of many unusual builds to be found : The Portland Roadster show is the perfect venue for this contest, as this rare 32 Chevy roadster proves; I don't know much about "Octymom" but I did spot a couple of nice twins..! Loved this in Pomona / love it in Portland..! Kustom Willys roadster, a major player IMHO. Like most trips, this was NOT cheap but if you find yourself wanting to learn more about Bob Paeth & or see a great car/model show while meeting some fine people, then you will want to check this out.. Thanks again Fletch & BTW it's ok to give Miss Portland 2008 (the trophy girl) my phone number..! Hizoot
