  1. My laptop is tough balance in my reading room, so besides MCM I get scale Auto, Car and Driver, Road $ Track, National Geographic, Model Railroader, Popular Science, Popular Mechanics, Scientific American, ... think that's all. I also pick up odd issues of Fine Scale Modeler and various rod and custom mags as the issue hits me from the news stand. I love paper mags and NEVER read any electronic ones.
  2. You're surpassing even yourself with the detail here!
  3. That example gives many other ideas! Just adding the two half round "flanges" opens many possibilities.
  4. I know not that many here are interested, but today Route2 in Charlemont MA opened again after washing out in Hurricane Irene. This is the major east-west route across the northern end of the state. .. The Mohawk Trail ... leaf peepers paradise. A whole stretch of the 2 lane road along the river had to be rebuilt. This is a link to Mass DOT page with more photos.
  5. I usually play Everquest after my first pass through the Forum and not down in the shop. I try to pretend my sword is carved from styrene and use black arbor so I can imagine it has carbon fiber decals.
  6. Here's a 1:1 being chopped on the HAMB board. May be a good reference showing how it's done in metal. another 1:1 showing the chop welds a model and no in process photos but he tells how he chopped this one in text.
  7. I got behind here, or maybe just stunned at Virgil's paint jobs. Just to add some history, Rapidograph pens were designed for the drafting industry. We used them making engineering drawings but rarely, as most drawings being developed needed a lot of erasure before complete. Our surveyors had to do ink for drawings going to the land registry. Ink defiantly reproduced better than pencil but was just more expensive and difficult to erase so really wasn't used much for working drawings. For a one off drawing or tracing they produced beautiful work.
  8. I have one that I want to chop, but haven't started it, so can't give any first hand info. The roof shap is the most important thing, of course. I planned to do it similar to a 49 Merc ... cut the window out, cut across and lengthwise to be filled later. The back cuts are what really need planning. Sorry I can't help more, but I have seen a couple done nicely. Let us know if you come across anything worthwhile.
  9. beautiful job, as everyone says. That first engine shot is the Money! it just pops!
  10. Being built as a true rod ... nice!
  11. Even in 1/25, you CAN'T go faster than the speed of light, so headlights would always work .. though the field of view may shrink. Then again, quantum mechanics may prove that wrong.
  12. I love this kind of surgery! Very good looking so far.
  13. Sorry I have none to display, but just want to say what a fantastic display of the only muscle car I ever liked. Great work here!

I like it! A classic in primer and grill teeth. ")
  15. You get a gold star, Harry. *
  16. I use Purple Power to strip chrome and it usually goes in 5 minutes also. I'm not sure you need to use the ultrasonic cleaner. You might try it without and save the electricity.
  17. Welcome to the board and hobby, Bailey. It's awesome to have someone like your aunt right there. It was interesting to see Adrian mentioned in Michelle's post. I'm a New Englander, but I went to school in Angola, IN and made many trips to Adrian College while there. It must have been the countryside .. maybe the cars .. no, that's right it was the beautiful girls there! I'll be looking forward to seeing your builds.
  18. Thanks for posting this. I really like the colors you used. I'm working on A100 that I wanted light blue but can't find any acrylic in the shade I want. I have some medium green here that I've been tempted to use and seeing yours convinces me to go ahead!
  19. Scale speed is figured the same as distance ... just divide by 25 for 1/25 for instance. As for time, I defer to our resident Physicist.
  20. l like your reference photo ... same color as the '59 I had ...with the exception the red in the side trim was black on mine. Will ne interesting to see your custom .. it defiantly looks good lowered.
  21. I go along with Jim ... that is the longest Hudson I've ever seen! I really like the shape of the cream on that sectioned body.
  22. We've been talking here recently about painting things never seen on a model ... so Mr John builds a pair of drop dead gorgeous batteries with WOOD handles and drops them in a hole to be covered by planks! HA! ... we all KNOW they are there!
  23. First off, I figured out the notch out of the rim was due to some handling I did with some pliers .. totally my fault. As for the tire ID, I believe the tires were cast with a slightly larger ID than the masters they were taken from. The inside surfaces are rough and some look like they had flash cut off. I wrapped a strip of .02" plastic around the rim super gluing as it went.. So it was all in the tire, nothing to do with your rims.
  24. I doesn't work for me either now. The pipe stand is just a short length of pipe ideally with a flange screwed on so it stands vertical. Pipe side is around 1.5" I believe. Wrap masking tape over top and around sides to hold it. the undersid eof roof will stick to it and you can turn as you paint holding in one hand. I believe one of the videos Cranky posted in this thread above shows one. Edit: I just came upon a couple photos Cranky posted in another thread that show a body on a couple of Don's Pipe Nipple stands. Look for the green Nova at the top of the page ... http://www.modelcars...40
  25. i/m sure they spent more on designing the wrapper than filling the can.
