It looks just fine from here......

heheeh,, I LOVE it! The build looks great, but even more, that ancient kit is where it belongs .. BUILT!
-
I love the sound of that .. waterfall over the radiator!!!!! It keeps looking better and better. This is my kind of modeling, as others have mentioned. Your build images and ongoing design story have been fantastic to follow.

Man .. you deserve a raise for that, David! That looks so good!

Cars you wished that was in 1/24

You ROCK Lou!! How do I join your club????????? -
hehe .. Isn't that what Big 'n Little means .. the big guy rides in the rumble seat and the little guy drives I see that pickup could have dropped lower if you wanted with those tires. Think I'm in a tire hangup.
-
That's bringing up another problem I'm having with this. The tires are from a Prowler .. defiantly BIG and little to an extreme. The rear fender is still loose in the pics and will raise slightly when attached to the body but the rear tire is controlling the stance. A rake is fine with me, but beginning to rethink tire choices. Front axle extensions aren't on in the photos but the tires will be wider at the edge of the fenders. Fenders heights ARE the limit as far as getting it lower. Only choice for more is the tires.

That's BMF on the grill? that looks great!

What IS it with these plastic engine covers...??
Foxer replied to Foxer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Guess you guys are right, there's not much you CAN do. Guess they are Lawyer made. Somewhere little Gnome Lawyer assistants make all these. Look at the Boxster .. a Porsche and you can't even see the hardware! -
The shop has been open overtime and the Carter BB single barrel is about done. My eyes need a vacation! It doesn't look bad in bare plastic but the metalizer really brings out the scratches and defects and makes it look pretty bad! I'm going to have to flatten the head of a pin and glue a 1000 grit sandpaper dot to sand it!! It scales out perfect according to dimensions sent by a 51 Plymouth owner who just bought 3 of them. Maybe I'll put up a fence so no one can get within 1 inch of it and they'll never SEE the roughness!! ehhe I should NEVER get this close with the camera!!!!! This is the 2nd carb done for this engine but I think this one will be usable with a bit more work.

Very nice. This is a great shot. Love the way light is hitting it. Black is very hard to photograph.

weathering looks great on the engine.

Hello @ all, new here.

Welcome to the forum and nice trucks there. That's a good looking truck shop you have there. -
This is like a pet peeve of mine. I always loved looking at the engine in my cars.. and I KNOW most here do too .. otherwise, why do we spend so much time modeling them? All through the 80's and 90's I had Porsche 944's with engines you could spend all day looking at. Before that, I loved the look of every engine in every car I owned, be it a lowly VW or a twin-SU carbureted TR4A. Then I retired and went modern with a Infinity G35 ... a great car but, WHERE'S THE ENGINE????? Just a cheap plastic cover over all that beautiful aluminum, rubber, steel and plumbing. The plumbing on cars has increased greatly and maybe they don't have to re-route the engineers A to B plumbing to make it pretty. Well, A to B on an engine was ALWAYS pretty! I just don't get the reason why for this. I has to be the Marketing Department, which has pretty much ruined everything in this world.

A lovely boat!!!! ..will be watching

I really appreciate EVERYONE'S input on this. I was at that infamous wall and needed a nudge. I pretty much agree on the prevailing opinion that a chop somewhere between the versions I showed is the way to go. The grill chop which gbk1 showed a restoration of really opened my eyes. That does look so much better than what I did. I had thought cutting the grill down that much would reflect the cuts on the body, but not so. This body is the ancient reissued AMT one I had as a kid, so looks like the Revell kit I'm using for the chassis will now be donating a grill also. Most of the time I do agree with you, Rob, though sometimes you just have to step outside the box and do something you normally wouldn't to break out the rut you're modeling down to the sparse grass and pebble grains. I've been mostly doing cars I've owned and, while I love doing this, I needed something different to play with. I did a scale 48" high 40 Ford Sedan in 1962 at age 16 and have nothing to prove, but I'm still learning and I model just what makes me happy. Contests aren't my thing.. VERY few people have actually seen anything I've built, but I am REALLY enjoying going on display HERE and not being worried about what I show. I always loved getting those oldies down low and this one was inspired by a car not far from me that was driven on the road since it's inception in the early 50's, now owned by Skip Rapp This car has an interesting history, all the more being a New England car .. NOT SoCal .. ehhe

I sense some Monkeying around....... Cool idea... looks like the clips even fit well!

Looking good! Pretty soon our snow will be past tense and you can run it! (I'm from just outside Pittsfield )

Saturday .... and .... It's HERE!!!! 12 days from the first post ... I know , I'm in America's Outback I guess. It did arrive in perfect condition. Enough for now, I have some reading to do.

I been looking at Grandt line hex bolts and looks like ones they list as .026" might be right. Not sure how the measure them, across flats or at the points. This would be close to a nut for a 3/8" bolt.. Guess I'll have to find some.

Any suggestions on how to go about the filing so all the faces are even? I do do a lot of filing by eye, but wondering if you have any tricks? Well. I suppose your shop has a machine to do this! lets see, 2 swipes with fine file at a perfect 90 degrees to base. Rotate pin 60 degrees and 2 more file swipes, Rotate pin 60 degrees.. I can see where these would look great. Just probing Obie-Ka-Dave-San for any tricks

I hadn't meant to put this bench hack up yet, but I'd like to solicit some opinions on the top chop. I originally meant to only section and channel and widen each fender but 3.5 inches. No top chop. Now I'm wondering if I should. I do still like the look of the tall roof, but it's just at the point that I've been staring at this too long and could use some feed back. So, here's a couple pics with no chop and a chop done in the Photoshop Body Shop. Also another at a better view with the fender width showing to balance the view. No chop in the 3/4 view. Photo 1 - no Chop Photo 2 - Chopped 3/4 view.. guess I could have PS chopped this one without too much work, but for now it's not chopped.
-
That sure is, should I say, MASSIVE! you sure you didn't salvage a Dodge Magnum "chopped" roof for this?? The lower body panels never stop climbing up to the top of those tires.... All kidding aside, that's a great piece of work there, Dave. Looks great too.

Newsflash! GM will kill Pontiac!
Foxer replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
OK, I guess it's time for me to get you all mad at me. The last American car I purchased was a 1967 Pontiac Tempest that had the most irradiating auto-transmission in the world. It would jump out of gear when it got hot. The expert GM mechanics could never fix it. That is the only car I've ever owned that had problems with a major component , thou that is probably just chance. After the 50's and 60's, and purchase of my first "foreign" car I just couldn't go back to the junk Detroit was churning out. Quality, looks and desirability were sorely missing. I totally don't get the Muscle cars.. they are rolling junkyards. They look terrible and are built off the cheapest platforms Detroit had ... I like my cars to turn corners and to survive the time I own it. The only solution to this problem for American makers ..?? ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Build cars people WANT to buy.
