Foxer replied to Smart-Resins's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)

A model show in a Burger Joint ?????!!!!! you know how to do things right!!! A lot of good looking builds there .. very cool!

thanks.. and is that your black one?? I wanted to post the images of my 87 engine with the Under Glass post but they may have been lost with a HD crash. That's pretty close with just minor plumbing differences. No cruise control on that one I see.

Got a small update, but this is coming along quickly now. I took advice from another post asking how to bend the generator "fan" blades and bought Tamiya PE pliers .. these worked fantastic!! .. MCM forum members to the rescue, again! The carpet monster ate the oil filler cap I fabricated over a three day period from tubes and .01 sheet. This required a 4 day evacuation of my basement body shop for a cool down period. On reopening the shop I went to the spare kit storage and a 59 Chevy with smiling eyes and eyebrows donated it's oil filler cap, generator, fuel pump and starter!! I had forgot how detailed the 59 was and these were very similar to the Plymouth units. The generator does seem a bit large but I think it will work ok. Started me wondering about the differences between 6 and 12 volt generators.. are 12 volt units larger by nature (and windings)? All the cast in items on the block have been removed and new items found or fabricated to replace them. Holes in cylinder walls have been welded up and machined back to spec (OMG!) I have a textured paint that looks good to replace the cast texture molded in the engine block. The already fabricated carburetor is still destined for a rebuild I think, but my carb specialist went on a family vacation to Cuba with the new rules .. very possible he could run into a 51 Plymouth or two on the road and "buy" a new carb!! Radiator hoses have been fabricated from some wire insulation with a bent paper clip inside for shaping, installation pinning and open hose at the radiator end. They didn't make this photo. Also added the gear housing for the starter. This is something I've never seen cast into a kit engine. It's a pretty significant bump on most engines! I'm beginning to think I could build a complete kit in the time just this engine is taking .. ehhe

That heart has a lot of red blood, but it usually rejects everything but family tissue. I heard in the other forum thread that MCM Healthcare Plan will cover this if the Doctor can successfully complete the transplant.

wiring and fuel harnesses' are amazing in themselves to be in a kit. This is gonna look good.. I'm paying attention!

Here's Dave's post ... Alclad This is a must read and I think it is a candidate for a sticky in the Tips forum..

I would like you to find a way on this, so I'm not being purposely negative, but these "hot word" pop up messages I find to be THE MOST irritating ad techniques there is. At times I've wanted to copy and paste a word that has been treated so and finally give up after the ###### thing brings me somewhere I don't want to go 15 times. I am old enough to know how to go somewhere I want and also old enough to ignore a company that tricks me into teleporting to their site. This would be totally unacceptable to me. Something I would expect from "that other site". I really have no objection to you getting revenue from ads, Greg. That is the way of the world now and something that would help insure the continuation of this great site and reward you for all your work is welcome. I just have objections to tricks and traps popping up in my face that I don't ASK for.

I'm not going into Purple Power here as you started a stripping thread. If you decide to rescue this paint job remember to first treat the areas you went down to bare plastic. They will need primer and some paint just on these area to get back to the same paint thickness on the rest of the body. Then you can do full coats to even things out.

I judge this a great build!

Very interesting front fender treatment. I really like the look of it so far!

Paint Strippers - What to Use?
Foxer replied to pbj59's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Glad to see you're thinking of stripping the paint. I know I didn't give you any stripper recommendations in your build post, but knew you'd start one. This is a subject that always needs freshening and you will get all kinds of thungs that work.. maybe even have in you house right now! I've tried many including brake fluid, Easy Off .. think it';s the yellow can, Lestoil, Pine Sol. My current favorite is Super Clean, an auto cleaner/degreaser. This is basically the same as Purple Power that mageckman mentioned .. just different brand of the same stuff. You may have read references to "the purple pond" here... this is what they're referring to. This stuff even strips chrome in about 5 minutes. It has seen the plastic from many Japanese kits and has never harmed anything. The best insurance is to throw a small piece of tree into it to test that it won't affect the plastic for the specific kit you're doing. I use plastic containers to do my stripping .. ones with a good tight lid and enough size to submerse the whole part I'm doing. These degreasers are reusable also. Do be careful handling these products. Almost all will eventually harm your skin. Wear rubber gloves. The degreasers are becoming the most popular paint strippers, and for geed reasons, but they will suck the moisture out of your skin with enough exposure. -

I order most all my general modeling tools from Micro-Mark and have for all the tears I've been modeling. I would like to click thru an ad here to help the forum but I don't want ads pasted all over. I would rather a specific ad area to go to to get a link for something I'm looking for. I might shop a few depending what I'm looking for. I don't click ads that pop in my face .. EVER! Shove an ad in my face and you may as well write me off as a customer. Give me somewhere for an easy link when I WANT you and I'll be your customer forever. I wouldn't mind a hot button that's always accessible and goes to pages of ads even.

That looks just plain cool ... everything about it is right!
