Ditching this kit and buying a new one just for the paint job is a bit extreme. I think we've all had paint we don't like and the easiest solution is to give it a bath in the old "purple pond" and start the paint over. There are many house hold products that will strip the paint off to bare plastic. This is pretty much how we've all learned to paint (I'm still a long way from being a good painter). If you go the new kit route, there's the additional money to consider plus all the prep work you already did with this body that you will be doing all over again. You already have a fully prepped body under all that paint! The only time I've bought another kit due to paint was before I knew the evils of lacquer on plastic and I kind of did a custom melt on the body!

How many bottles, tubes, backpacks of CA has everyone thrown out after only a couple uses and it;s either clogged up or hard as a rock? I finally found one that works.. Zap-A-Gap CA+ 1oz container. It's a gap filling one which suits me fine for general attaching. This bottle just doesn't clog. I've never thrown a non-empty container out. It's almost becomes irritating to have a bottle of CA so long and begin to feel I should get a new one just on principle. I've tried Tenax-7R but it's just plain too fast curing for me. I'll have to try Ambroid as that sounds like it's a bit slower. Otherwise I just use Testers Liquid in the black bottle .. that applicator has good control.

Was in Neckarsulm, near Stuttgart, and babysitting Pershing Missiles. Cool part was the NSU plant in town where Audi later made the 5 Porsche 944's I had and now my wife's A4. Was a great 2 years there. -
hmmmmmmmm... he hates modeling...! A car person? .. on his first car at an oil change the mechanic commented that he couldn't change the oil.. there WAS none! Does anyone know what a DNA test costs??

I SURE didn't give it up for lead ... not one chopped top in that time! Actually, had a very long abstinence from 1962 till 1992 when I tried to get my son interested in modeling. That only got me back into it and was amazed at how the whole thing had changed from 1962 and sewing thread plug wires! I actually completed about a dozen kits in a 2 or 3 year span!!!! I don't know what caused this last 15 year famine .. just other things like work and family I guess. Now that I have retired (!!!!!!!!) I'm back in it and loving it more! Hope to run into some of you all there .. it sure sounds like it will be full! I'll assume the clubs might have areas staked out where all the Old F*** modelers here will be getting shots of oxygen.

Could you explain a bit more on this Clay for us slow learners? This is a resin body in a Testor's kit? Or, am i misunderstanding and you got a resin aftermarket body? -

Good Lord! you have some serious work ahead of you!! I smiled at the Europa Have one sitting downstairs that hasn't started. I almost bought one in 1968 when I was stationed in Germany to bring back with me. That car was SO cool looking .. low, mean and light! -
oh WoW! I built that truck in 1960!! and SMP is really AMT though I don't know the reasons or wherefor for it.

I was just kidding too ... no offense was ever meant. That's a blue one. White would be ok. A natural tan colored leather would look good. Even vary the shades of tan. Of course black works but gets boring. Yellow leather ? -
You got it .. and the Chevy is looking good!

ahhah.. we sure are picture hogs here.. ok.. MORE PICS!! good looking rod..

The one thing that bothers me so much there is the limiting size of the photos. Most are about the size of the avatars here. How can you have a discussion of the details of the build when the whole car photo is like 300x200 or so. The images there disservice the whole idea of the site. When I first came here I thought the images I posted would be ripped and shredded, chopped and sectioned, lowered and shaved. Not a one has ever been touched other than display re-size to make reading easy. And now I like it here so much I'm not even going to try any 3500x2800 images just to see! ;)

Geeze Dave.. that place looks as flawless as your builds!! /do you REALLY work there?? I'm in the process of reorganizing my area under the basement stairs to get a few shelves and maybe some additional table space. Planning on a wall extension to hang things off of. I's just an old table and other scrounged drawers and tables. I just drilled a duct thru the band joist and finally have a paint booth down there. If nothing else this plan has got me to clean the worktable and sweep the floor!! And I DID find a piece that's been missing for 2 years!!! I'll have to take some pics after the work and revisit here.

yeah, mine always curled the rear fins when it went over backwards. I always assumed this effect was how they got the idea for the 61 fins. and I never complimented you on the sketch ... nice one

that just sits there with an attitude .. great look!

Is that 50 Mercury side trim? ..oh no .. wait.. that trim BELONGS there .. Looks great.. engine work looks fantastic!
