F all the way! (Wasn't that a Flavor-Flav song????)

I'm thinking of taking the Testors 1:6 Ford 427 and sticking it into one of those new 1:16 scale Shelby kits from Revell. You know... kind of a 'big Zinger' kind of deal. I'd still love to build a couple of these just oob, though.

1970 Chevy Monte Carlo Fast and Furious
Chuck Most replied to 75th Ranger's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
AMT seemed to have a kind of 'hit/miss' quality with their decal sheets at the time. I remember buying a 2005 Chrysler 300C kit- it had the two large winged Chrysler badges for the grille and decklid, and a '300C' badge decal, in addition to the typical Rides Magazine stuff. The second one I bought had the two large wing badges, then two smaller wing badges, and no '300C' badge at all. And yeah, that stock hood on the Mustang was a pretty good piece to have handy, too! Monte- the Monte Carlos did have the 502 big block, I was refering to the Mustangs used in the flick. Even though the Mustang drifter was presented as having the Nissan mill, the Mustangs actually drifting had Rousch small blocks. -
1970 Chevy Monte Carlo Fast and Furious

Yeah, the kit was pretty much a cash-grab from RC2 in their gasping years. Strange, Larry mentions his example had no decals, but the one I bought had a decal sheet, two licence plates, and a couple of retangluar gray pieces which I assumed were meant to replicate the primer spots on the box art model's rockers. Mine also came with the BFGoodrich lowrider rubber, as well as the rubber band-o's for the F&F wheels. Anyway, yeah, you'd be just as well starting off with the stock or lowrider version as this kit, if you want to build the movie car. Now, anybody remember the F&F 67 Mustang, with the half-hearted Nissan Turbo six? (Fun fact, the 'hero' car in the flick had the Nissan mill, but all the Mustangs actually doing the drifting in the film were running pumped up Rousch Ford V8's! Ha!) -
Good news for me... I never did manage to snag one of those Flatties. Kind of like the Charger Cop Cars, these were on the 'delayed reaction' timetable, I guess.

Making Door & Hood Hinges

Yes, please! Door hinges befuddle me 95% of the time, there can't be enough how to info on them. -
Best Kit Small Block Ford
Chuck Most replied to Carmikeman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Revell '90-'92 Mercury Cougar kits have a pretty good small block Ford, too, about on par with the ones in the Deuce kits. -
Ken and Dave are right= the buggy spring crossmember are gone from later issues, but the axle and hairpin are still there, or at least they've been there in every reissue I've had. Good parts box stuff.

The orange one in the old gray Monogram box art is actually the one I'm working with right now. The coupe version's TPI setup was VERY nice indeed, and the billet wheels were pretty nice, even though I'm not really a fan of billet wheels on fat fender cars.

Yeah... Sooooo glad the days of the SBC being the only choice are over! If I recall, the flattie from the '36 kit drops into this one without much effort. I think that's the route I'll go with mine. I'm thinking late '60's style custom rod, and just ignore the Mustang II IFS and Vette rear. (I admit to buying quite a few of these kits JUST for that MII frontend!)

Terraplane Grille in Resin
Chuck Most replied to Chuck Most's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Still looks good to me, and I still want to buy a shoebox full of 'em! -
I don't remember if it's this kit or the coupe, but I seem to remember one version of this '37 having mismatched directional wheels on one side.I haven't built one in ages, but I do like this kit. About my only real gripe is that Chevy engine. Groan...

Wow! A thousand bucks!
Chuck Most replied to Terry Sumner's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've spent less than that on a real car. Yeah, it's a big scale Aurora kit, but sheesh... -
When I bite the big old bazooka, my funeral will consist of my lifeless carcass being set ablaze and fired out of a cannon into a brick wall. This will then be posted on You Tube with a request for donations to cover the cost of the cannon and the wall. I'd originally planned to have all my models fired out of the same cannon at the same time, but I suppose I could have my family auction them off, again, to finance the cannon and the wall.

What he said.

I noticed that when I saw my buddy's '86 parked next to his sister's then-new '07. I thought "Jeez... that 07 is a huge car, or those Fox bodies are tiny!" Little of both I guess.

Who'd have thunk you could take an early '70's Riv and make it uglier?
-
Now I'm kind of thinking of building the 'Vette to resemble the El Camino box art...

Thanks, Mark! Forgot about the goofy headlamps on the later MPC kits! Wasn't even aware of many of the other things you outlined (on either kit).I've got enough spares to almost build an MPC SVO at this point, maybe I'll still pick up the Revell version just for kicks.
-
How does this one measure up to the MPC version?

Lindberg '34 Ford 'Custom' Pickup
Chuck Most replied to Chuck Most's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Some of the parts from that kit (three window and Tudor) almost drop right in, while other stuff (like the independent front and rear suspensions) take a little more work. I did bash this kit and one of those to make a replica of what a '34 Ford would have looked like if they'd adopted the passenger car styling on the trucks a few years back- -
Well... I wouldn't say this one has 'no' underhood detail, but there isn't much. Engine detail isn't too great either. You'd be scratchbuilding and dipping into the spares box quite a bit for a nice, well filled out engine bay with this kit.

Everyone needs friends ya know...
Chuck Most replied to bigmikevee's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My definition has always been "A friend is the guy who you trust to go into your house and make all your porn disappear if you die unexpectedly." It is a pretty handy way to keep track of people who's work interests you on the forum, if I may give a serious answer.
