Pic's would be helpfull yes, do you know what color he used? I'm thinking for the Veilsides useing the same Light Gun-Metal gray I used on my 1/43 scale Honda Insight, I like it far better than plain jane silver. To me, plain silver look's too much like bare metal. I may pick up the two Koenig's a week from Tuesday if local hobby shop has'em. Some times they do, and some times they dont'. They usually have everything I want when I'm flat broke.

Kind of an I'm bored question
FujimiLover replied to Aaronw's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Can the term "tuner" be applied to exotics? Such as in the case of the Koenig Specials or Gemballa? -
Well, fortunetly for me. Some of my ebay sellers are nice enough to wait for two months for me to have enough credit on the account to pay for these kit's. So you may still yet see these kit's on my workbench! Please feel free to post pictures of your future projects. Kit's that you just purchased that are still in the box! I also plan on building two Koenig-Specials Competition model kit's. One a convertible, and one the hard-top version. Was thinking of painting both to match identically with gun-metal gray on the outside and tan interior. Or, should they be different as their different in style?

Brake from models
FujimiLover replied to FujimiLover's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
LOL! Anytime you can purposely blow up something is much better than getting ticked at your model and accidently destroying it! -
Is it necessary to scale down the color? If your trying to match say a particular silver or gray-ish color, do you want the smaller model to be darker, or brighter than the real thing? Or do you just simply match the paint to the real thing your trying to replicate? Remember, color and shape work together. Black is slimming, et'c, et'c. Please refer this question to my 1/43 scale thread where I posted a picture of my real Honda Insight with a small 1/43 scale die-cast model from Ebbro. Hope my question isn't confusing..............

When does a muscle become a tuner and can a modified muscle be classified as a tuner? As in another thread, I mentioned that a "tuner" doesn't necessarily refer to rice-burners. -
True to chrome chrome-paint
FujimiLover replied to FujimiLover's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Ah see that is my downfall right now. I dont' have an airbrush although I'm very interested in getting one. All of my previous paint jobs including my RX7 have all been rattle-cans. My brother keeps telling me that my models would greatly improve if airbrushed. One fear I've had with airbrushes is getting in the habbit of cleaning after every use. Necessary to clean between colors minutes later? -
True to chrome chrome-paint
FujimiLover replied to FujimiLover's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Thank you. I'll try that paint next time I need to do so. I usually try to use Bare-Metal-Foil for small areas and areas of less complex curves. One would not use foil on wheels of coarse, so that's why the question of paint is for wheels and some engine parts that maybe too complex for foil. -
Nice model! The Audi R8 is one of the coolest new cars out there. But what happened to that panel behind the doore? Don't all of those R8's have some sort of accent? I'd use that Bare Metal Foil brushed aluminum to trim that panel. Still, very nice! Sometimes, depending on the car, I like color-codeing the wheels. Not sure if it would work on the Audi and with those style of rims. Gun-metal might work too.

Thank you, that was the other trick. I didn't want theme to look drawen in as that look's cheap. My aplogies to those of you who do that, I personally prefer not to have that look. I want a clean, professional look. Also, how small does the model need to get to get away without having those panel lines? Obviously, the smaller the model the more difficult it is to accomplish.

Thank you, I will do the black in the exaust pipe, but I think it's too late for the headlights. I agree with you 100% on the window frame and I think it completes the details. In my RC car forum that I'm a member too, I've seen lot's of custom bodies that have superb paint jobs, but more than half of theme look incomplete because alot of the modelers dont' bother with that window trim. The only time I ignore that window trim is when the car is black anyway! Would you really see flat black or even semi-gloss black against gloss black? Maybe the flat black, but still is it worth it on a black model? Doing the black trim on white cars has always been scarey for me as it's soooooooo easy to make a mistake and have it stick out like a sore thumb. OH, about the headlight. I'm not sure if all of those type's of headlights have an outline. Some do like on the KS-Ferrari models, but I dont' think it does here as the instructions never applied it. There was no markings on the lense to apply it either so that's probably why I left it alone.

What do you guy's do when taking a brake from your models. It's not always good idea to be at the model all day long. Getting tired, frusterated, angry only hurts the model and can be a waist of money when thing's dont' go right. So what do you do? I like to fly my micro RC helicopters around the workshop!

My Dad has the dremel tool you pictured on the top, and I have the one on the bottom. I much prefer my Dad's dremel tool as it gives me a much more precise control. The bottom one feels too clunky and difficult to work with on some parts of the model. Wonder if there is a micro-dremel tool? My working companion is Itunes with over 5 day's worth of music, and my cat who sit's on the shelfe above me. -

What's your "unicorn?"
FujimiLover replied to FactoryStock54's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I guess the closest to a unicorn for me would be my beloved Koenig Specials Comfort "Testarossa" models by Fujimi. They are very nicely detailed, and well built. Every one I've worked on I've had difficulty getting right. The amount of parts to complete the downpipes, air-intakes/exits, exaust pipes was very complicated to fit all together. Also, the paint didn't turn out the way I wanted to. The best one was my white convertible, but it fell off the shelfe and broke. I tried doing an Italian Red one a while back, but the red looked too flat and when assembling the body, those details some how messed up the paint work. I've yet to perfect one and been able to keep it for the long run. Also, yellow paint. I hate yellow cars in general, but sometimes when doing an exotic sports car, yellow works. However, yellow paint has always looked horrible for me. The most successful color's for me are the metallics, particularly gun-metal gray's. NEVER paint red directly on primer. At least for me, it always turns out looking flat. If I want a red car, I use primer, white base coat, then red coat, then clear coat. -
What's the best way to achieve those panel lines on model cars? I've thought about the old thin black magic marker, but those don't always seem to work on some paint finishes. Also, when and when not to make panel lines? Would an airbrush help? Any tips/tricks for clean, smooth panel lines?
-
Thank you. In all car projects, the wheels is what makes or brakes the overall finish. They've gotta go with the theme.

Hello there. I'm wondering if there is a true to chrome chrome-paint out there. Surely the paint wont' have a mirror-like reflection that true chrome-plating can provide, but what paint will provide the ###### closest shine to chrome? I've seen several chrome paints that claim to be chrome with a chrome-plated cap on the can. But when I've tried that paint, it look's more silver than chrome. Also, some silver paint look's more like chrome than silver, but still not chrome enough. I dont' use alot of chrome on my models, but when I do, I'd like for it to look as realistic as possible without having to send it out for chome plating.

Tools of the trade, and workstation
FujimiLover replied to FujimiLover's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Wow, that is one confusing workstation. I can't imagine it be good for the computer to get all that modeling dust and paint near it/on it. My computer station is to the left ot my workstation. Seperate, but still close enough I can get from one to the other quickly. I thought about getting some sort of fancy spice-rack that can hold all of my bottle's of paint in a neat and organized fasion. Right now there just put away in a clear slide out container. -
Thank you. Unfortunetly, I can not tell you what the color is as it was custom mixed by a local paint supplyer. I had recently made a new tail-fin for an Airwolf RC helicopter and needed to match the paint with the rest of the heli. So I took the old tail-fin which was poorly un-scale like compared to the rest of the fuselage, and had it matched. Anyway, I liked the gray so much I thought it would suit some of my cars and sure enough, it really suited the RX7 well.

Pictures of your tuner
FujimiLover replied to FujimiLover's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thank's for those kind words. It's actually the first kit I've done in three or some years of being out of the hobby. I've been so involved in Kyosho's Mini-Z racer's that I haven't gotten into model building. So I'm very pleased with the results on this RX7. There are some colors that are easy for me to paint, and some that are a pain to paint. Also, the type of paint, and the paint-can makes a difference as well. Plus just good old fasion time and patients. Patients is something I'm still learning even after 34 years! LOL! It is hard to pick the right exterior color, interior color, wheels, et'c to make one complete package successfull. I hope if budget allows, I can get another kit in two weeks and make another successful build. I've been wanting to get several kit's off ebay, but not enough credit in my account to cover'em. So, if I have enough cash, I might visit the local hobby shop and see what they've got. I'm very picky with what cars I decide to build or not build. I'm also particular on style as well. -
Thank you for that info, I knew it was somewhere along those lines like the references to the AE86. Anyway, it appears that my credit card, as small as it is, is maxed out and I'm flat broke. So, no more model building for me for a while. Unless I pick one up at local hobby shop with cash on hand. I just hope that when my account is back in shape that these kit's will still be around cause I'd really like to build'em and add theme to the RX7. Fortunetly, being broke that I am, I've already had that RX7 available to me laying around under my workbench waiting to be opened and used!

What can the dehydrator do for model building? Does it help the paint dry faster, or what? -

Mr. Mike, I'd love to see pictures of those models as you work on theme and of coarse when finished! Particularly the KS models! Glad somebody else is a KS lover!
