Look What's Coming In 2008 From Revell Germany!
FujimiLover replied to larrygre's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
That thing's big enough to be turned into RC! I picture chopping the roof and give it a lower Hot-Rod style look. But that's beyond my skill. Would make for alot of interesting ideas. Hmmmmmmm, if converted to a motorhome, one could put an Ipod Video in there in such a way that it look's like a flat screen tv! -
My own interest in custom decals, I came across this web site. http://www.bare-metal.com/Experts-Choice-Decal-Film.html

Thank you Mike, would be helpful if you could list the color you used next to the model. Nice work!

So that's why I found a pair of panties in my shopping cart at Walmart. LOL! Just kidding, I agree, why pay $6 dollars for something when you can pay 99 cents for the same thing? I've thought of some of the burgendys, reds, dark maroon purples, dark pinks, pearls, et'c would make excellent colors for custom cars. Was wondering if somebody can post pics of color-samples here? Not in the bottle as that's hard to judge, but pictures of models they have painted with nail paint?

Price of rare kit's
FujimiLover replied to FujimiLover's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I think one particular reason for their price is their rarity. Some of these models are only limited to less than 1,000 peices. I've seen some listed on ebay that claim to be 1 of 300 peices or something very, very limited. I remember visiting a model shop in Switzerland durring a high-school spring break trip. It was my favorite model/hobby shop of all time called Model Auto. Half way burried under the streets, you'd almost missed it if your eyes didnt' catch a glance at the cars in the window. It was a small shop, but stacked from floor to ceiling with every scale every car you could imagine. This was back in mid 90's. They had a few of these K-S models for sale at much lower prices, like 50-60 dollars I think. A bit much at that time too for a kid in high-school! LOL! I just wish I had the available funds to buy whatever, whenever. Always seems I find the coolest stuff when I'm flat broke. And when I do have money, I can't find anything I'm looking for. -
Post pic's of your 1/43 scale models!
FujimiLover replied to FujimiLover's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow. I think I have about 10-15 1/43 in total so far. All pre-built. The Insight as stated is an Ebbro pre-built that I simply took apart and repainted to match mine and give it more flavor. I'm very tempted to purchase one of BBR's resin kit's of the K-S Ferrari Competition, but I'm afraid of spending that much money on something that might turn to poop do to my lack of skills. I also dont' think it's warrent enough to spend even more money for a professionally built one, even though I want one really bad. When your limited on funds like I am, and you have quit a few hobbies, it's really hard to decided exactly what to spend your 300 dollars on when it maybe your only 300 dollars for several months. Now if I had Bill Gates money, I'd have a boat-load of models! Shoot, I'd probably have an extra house just for all the models them selves! LOL! -
Hey there. When is it worth paying around 200 dollars or more for a 1/43 scale model car? My all time favorite tuner-car AKA Koenig Specials Ferrari Testarossa, is available in 1/43 but only as resin kit's or professionally built kit's from BBR. I've never seen theme for under 180 dollars on ebay. Is it worth getting these? Should I just get the cheaper kit, or save up for the professionally built kit's? How easy is it to put these resin kit's together? My modeling skils are okay, but I dont' think they validate paying 200 for a resin kit only to be ruined by unskilled hands. At the same time, is it worth paying extra for one that's professionally built? I love these cars alot, and would love to some day have a collection of theme in 1/16 scale, 1/24 scale and 1/43 scale. I always thought as a collector it's cool to have the same car in multiple scales all lined up. What's the most you've ever paid for a rare 1/43 resin kit? Or any 1/43 model for that matter? Would I be nut's to buy one at that price? BBR certainly makes some beautiful models of K-S cars.

Hey again, it's me. Got another question for you all. How many of you have built a paint booth, and what do you use to keep it dust free? As I dont' paint that often, I usually paint outside and it's a pain trying to keep the model clean from dust particles and peices of hair and lint. What's the best way to make a paint booth? Unfortunetly, my work bench is not facing a window, so I can't use that as an outlet. Got any suggestions? Pictures? Thank's!

My bet is somebody in Vegas back in the day's, perhaps a pimp with his pimpmobile? If you want to create that look for your model, I personally don't, but I have seen very tiny little dice available at my local hobby shop and it's perfect size to hang from your models mirror. The dice are probably 1mm square? Very tiny. Just a thought!

Thank you. What I imagine is a sculpture about, I dont' know, two feet tall and two feet diameter? 3/4'ths of it maybe flat on the back with just the corner of the turn showing and of coarse the front of the peice. I'm just looking to create a small peice of the curve to display the two cars on. So I don't think it would be too big of a structure.
-
Well, those were just ideas after all. I didn't know about useing heat on that resin. Seems like only way to fix a windsheild is by making a new one. Just hope it's not a complex peice.

Painting white on a white molded kit
FujimiLover replied to FujimiLover's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Thank you! When I did my last K-S convertible Ferrari, I did primer over the white and painted white ontop of that. I dont' think I did any mold-fixings or anything like that. Most Fujimi kit's are pretty nice to start with. On the RX7, I did sand down some lines where it looked like they fused some parts together, or at least the mold parts or whatever. It was usually on the edges of the rear bumper is where I see these lines. My next model I'll look more carefully for these imperfections. Do you wash your model before you begin working on it? I know sometimes their can still be release agents on the plastic that we cant' see, but can effect the paint. -
Hobby Link Japan pictured models
FujimiLover replied to FujimiLover's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Now that would be an ideal job, wouldn't it? Building model cars for companies to display................................. -
Has anybody worked with the real fine faux fabric? You know, that fake soft stuff for creating realistic cloth interiors? I've noticed some Fujimi models like the first gen MR2 has had some done on the door panels from Fujimi themselves. I think Scale Motor SPorts now offers it in spray? Does anybody have any photos of their interior with this stuff on it? Is it easy to work with? Messy, any tricks, or tips? Any ideas for getting a leather-look interior other than just color?

Pictures of your tuner
FujimiLover replied to FujimiLover's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think I've also seen those wheels available seperately as dress-up parts. -
Just a suggestion, but what about gap-filling CA glue? Wouldn't that stuff work here, or would the CA fog the plastic? Also, what about the resin they use to fix chips on real windshields, would that work here as well?

Hobby Link Japan pictured models
FujimiLover replied to FujimiLover's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well, I'm impressed by their build quality. Of coarse, seeing the models in person maybe differ from photo on computer screen. Yes, they are great with prices and shipping, but I've noticed their stock is getting smaller and smaller on the stuff that I'm interested in. I think part of the problem with ebay sellers, is they have to jack up the prices to accomidate ebay seller fees and PayPal fees, and of coarse the old personal profit problem. -
Hello there. I have an interesting question regarding white. If your model is molded in white, and you want the final color to be white also, how do you accomplish a beautiful finish? I used to just clear coat over the white molded plastic, but found it still look's toy-ish or fake. Primer, then paint? How do you get a smooth white finish? Do you clear coat over plastic? Or do you paint over it? I know it's all just preference really, but still like your opinion. And, what's the best white paint you've used? Just a basic gloss white finish is what I'm interested, no pearls, no blue-ish tinted white, or glacer white or whatever.

Real or Model #81 FINISHED!
FujimiLover replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I'm going to say model on this one. The light sorce and shadow's seem wrong. The light sorce almost look's like a big overhang spot light, and the shadow's dont' seem to match up with the light sorce either. -
Quite a few years ago when I built Fujimi's 89 Honda CRX model, I did a simple light kit with Dad's help. All we added was tiny white light bulbs from a model train store for the headlights, and small yellow grain-sized lights for the fog lights. I drilled holes where I wanted the lights to go, glued'em in place with epoxy, and Dad did the wirering work hooking theme up to a 9V battery which I made fit in the CRX's rear section underneath the cargo-lid. Now, thank's to Aoshima, we have this amazing kit which I just found on ebay today. Would love to get one but dont' have the funds for it. This look's to be a very cool kit to have and I hope to have a few for future projects.

Anybody who has shopped at Hobby Link Japan before has seen some increadably well built model kit's. When you shop for model kits at this web site, have a look at the photo of the actual model they have on display. Whoever buildes these model kit's for theme is truely a master. How on earth can I get that perfection? Obviously, lot's of time, patients, and practice, and more patients................sure hope some day my models can be that perfect and beautiful! Most of theme look so smooth you expect theme to be die-cast or something!!!!!!

I dont' see anything that look's like 1/43 in those pictures? Unless the two Porsches top left of shelfe?
