  1. as a rattle-can user, I dont' use anything but enamels. However, if/when I get my airbrush, I'll probably experiment more after I've had some experience with the airbrush. I'd really like to try some finger nail polish. No, not on me, on the model.
  2. There's also Bare-Metal Foil's chrome foil but it's not suitable for complex parts where you want the "liquid chrome" to cover everything. The bare-metal foil is more suited for window trim, door moldings, door handles, emblems, et'c.
  3. I've never used Plasti-kote or any other brand/type of paint for model building. However, for my green MR2, I'll need a nice deep dark forest-like green color for it. Will Plasti-Kote have something like that? I dont' want to use Testor's British Racing Green as this is a Japanese car. Also, what clear coat should I use over Plasti-kote? Do they have their own gloss coat? I think I found my answer, Hunter Green. http://www.plastikote.com/plastikote/indus...20Bond%20Enamel
  4. I love white cars, but they are tricky to perfect. What bug's the heck out of me the most with white, is trying to paint that darn window trim! The slightest error is greatly amplified on a white car! You've gotta make it absolutelty perfect!
  5. Also in general white primer brightens the base-coat, and gray primer darkens it. So, I guess it depends on how you want the end result to be.
  6. Hello. I dont' know if many of you know about this. But in the past when I wanted to paint a model black, I've noticed that white and gray primers tend to make the finish dull and ugly for some reason unknown. However, about a year ago I discovered an interesting primer designed specifically for black cars. It's called Black Primer and it's made by Citadel Colour. It comes in a large can so it lasts for several models. I tried it on a 1/28 scale Mini-Z car that I had back then, I cleaned it, prepped it, et'c, sprayed the black primer, gloss black, and clear coated it. And WOW what a finish! The black primer really truely helped alot. So if you guy's want a nice black finish, use black primer first! Picture of paint. The Crack-Can next to it is there to show you the size of the black primer can. This stuff works great! I'm sure you "professionals" out there know of better or different ways of getting a silky smooth finish, but this works great for me!
  7. Thank you, I will look into that. What primer do you recommend for it? Probably white primer to make it brighter? I noticed gray primer darkens colors.
  8. If you dont' know these cars, it can be confusing. However, some clues that it's a Testarossa and not F-40. Look at the hood, the F-40's rounder, and it's headlights are bigger and not as square. Second, look at the side air-intakes. The F-40 has tiny little triangular ones similar to that of the Countach, but not as big. The KS-Competition's is simply the Testarossa with the fin's removed. I beleive what KS did when building the Competition, is practically re-skinned the Testarossa, widening it, and giving it more cooling intakes/outakes. Plus, I think their body-kit's are kevlar. Being 80's, could be fiberglass as well, but I beleive they were ahead of their time and made it out of kevlar. The other difference is that the F-40 does not have those intakes at the corner's behind the side window's. Pic's side by side. Koenig-Competition Ferrari F-40 I love'em both, but the KS Testarossa Competition has always been my fav.
  9. Koenig-Specials made two versions of the Testarossa. The one your describing without the F40-style rear wing was their first one. That one for some reason is the odd scale 1/16. The second version which they dubbed the Competition, is available as 1/18 scale model. I would be interested in it, but would rather have a complete kit. Thank you though!
  10. Now I've gotta find a silver suitable for the two Veilside kit's as it's probably very similar to what I'll need for my Insight.
  11. Finally been able to send payment in for these two kit's as well. These are coming to me by EMS delivery so hopefully I'll have these by Friday/Saturday! I have no clue about the first MR2 I posted, but at least I know these will arrive soon!
  12. I'm afraid I dont' have the patients to polish and polish and polish. Maybe just one light polish, but I'm happy with a basic clear gloss coat.
  13. That's not an F-40. That is their modification of the Ferrari Testarossa which they nicknamed the Competition. It has twin turbo's PLUS supercharger pumping out close to 1,000 horses. In my opinion, it look's way better than the F-40. But yes, gorgeous models and I hope to accomplish same results whenever I purchase and build mine.
  14. Is there some sort of magical rattle-can clear-gloss that works on ANY brand enamel paint? Some work well with others, and some don't, so was wondering if there was a universal one.
  15. Already have one, but built it slightly different than my 1:1 scale version. I beleive the paint used here was a light gun-metal gray from Testors Model Masters. I also used Scale Motor Sports 1/43 carbon-fiber on the wheel pant's and hood. I then painted some of the interior red, and added racing seats from another 1/43 model of what was a WRC car. I also took wheels off some other toy I can't recall. With this new one, I plan on replicating my real one as much as possible. So, need to find a silver that will match for the scale. As you can see from the photo, the interior has some blue in it, so that will also need to be painted over. Still trying to find the larger toy of it.
  16. We are our own worst critics................................................... sometimes your best friends aren't much help either! Keep up the good work man!
  17. I dont' know about plastic model kit's, but my local store, called Hightower Collectables, has an awesome collection of incredable die-cast models of every scale. He's got what I think is a Shelby Cobra in a large scale, but it's finish is Puter? Sorry if I misspelled it, but it's some type of shiny metal, look's like real bare metal of some sort, look's gorgeous on the model. Would be awesome to have, excpet the price tag is outrageous. He's asking for nearly over 1,000 dollars for it. But man is it sweet. He's also got a gorgeous large gloss-black Porsche 935 that I'd love to have as well, same issue, too expensive, but would be freaking sweet to have.
  18. Look's like an awesome car! I've got two thing's to add. First, decals that large are NEVER easy to do. Second, since it's a racing car, and not a street/show car, I wouldn't worry too much about the paint/decals being 100% perfect. Perhaps you can do something to the imperfection and make it some how look like race-rash? It is a racing car after all, so make it look like it was swapping paint with another car? By the way, the chassis and interior look great! Can't wait to see it "under glass".
  19. Just sent in payment for this! Hopefully it wont' take too long to get it. Oh yea, my 1/43 Ebbro model of my car which I plan on repainting to match.
  20. Just sent payment for this model kit and for a 1/43 scale Ebbro die-cast of my Honda Insight, which will be blue in color as it arrives but I plan on making it look exactly like my real car. I'll need to find a silver that matches this. So those are two future projects coming!
  21. If you have decals on the body, say for example emblems, logo's, liscence plate et'c, I would clear coat it anyway. It not only gives the car a better shine, it helps protect the decals and can even hide the outlines of the decals. So no matter the paint and/or color, I'd clear coat it. Just make sure the paints are compatible as some dont' always work well with others.
  22. I've seen those wheels before but can't recall from what kit?
  23. Not sure what year this Mercedes is. I can possibly check with KS's website and see if they have info on it. Sorry, their web site does NOT give any information on the year of the car.
  24. In the big boy's thread, I mentioend buildint some 1/18 scale model kit's. As I've yet to use an airbrush, I'd love to get that ultra smooth glossy red "die-cast like" finish that these awesome Koenig models deserve. Wondering what's the best of the best rattle-can paints to use in order to achieve professional results? I'd hate to invest the funds into a large model kit having it turn to poop due to pore finish.
  25. Boy, oh boy. I sure am tempted by these awesome kit's. Confused about one thing though. In both ebay descriptions, their listed as 1/18 scale? But aren't these larger kit's really 1/16 scale? Never knew 1/18 was available or is this a mistake cause the seller doesn't know much about it perhaps? Koenig Specials Ferrari 512 BB Koenig Specilas Competition Evo 2 Also, as I dont' have an airbrush, how can I get these gorgeous glossy red reults? KS 512 BB KS Competition Appearntly, there are kit's of both Koenig Competition "Testarossa" versions in 1/6 scale.
