pete 352 110" heavy haul
Kostas Parchas replied to cowboysevens's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Dennis, This Peterbilt is gonna be as sweet as long the frame is. I like the 110'' cab on the long frame, but I would love it, if it was a 362. I like also the resin gaggets you have there for her, the step-tool box adds to the truck. Don't forget to add a headache rack, it will be a nice touch. Kostas. -

Guys, I can wait for the Prostar, but I want a 53'' reefer NOW!!!!! Dave? Moebius? Kostas. -
I have to agree with the others!!! I have built in the past three trucks (truck&trailer) for owner operators here in Athens. The price was discussed several times until the deal closed. It is very important to make clear to the other how difficult is to built a model, how many hour it takes, the costs of the used materials and purchasing the needed kits. Also it is very important and counts a lot, the difficulty of the real thing, what extras you will need (resin parts, decals...). I feel that, including the costs for the materials (glues, tapes, BMF, etc) and purchasing the kits, a price for a truck & trailer combo is good up to 1000-1200€, if I am correct it is about 800-900 USD. I would be happy with that money. Resin parts add to the price. you built, you love it, and then it is like a child, someday the day it must leave you will come, so you will have to delivery it. Keep in mind what you can do with this money it is a good point of start. It is very cool to have some extra money to spend for your kids, wife, or at least for your self. I have meet people who had pay more than 2000€ for a model truck and you wont believe it, once I met a guy that he payed in front of me 8000€ for a 2 meter long wooden ship.... What I want to say is that our hobby is very nice and I believe that it is an art. Art is payed well is other cases, so why not in our case???? I also want to say again here that building models had help me a lot in my job were as an electronics technician I have always to deal with small parts.... So go ahead and built the truck for that guy. Kostas. PS1. Our hobby should be just a pleasure but but sometimes its a more pleasure to spend ''extra'' money in a LHS. PS2. There are some cases that we all should donate a model to someone.

New kits
Kostas Parchas replied to skulls's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I am not sure if I understand that correct, maybe it is my fault not to mention this before. No it is not necessary to be any kind of registered business. In my case, the Greek distributor has also a HS so he can sell both to retailers and end customers. So I am taking this advantage. About the 379X i would suggest you to start with Italeri 378 long hauler kit #3857 for the basics and then from Eric (Porky) you can purchase the 379X hood, correct tool boxes and many other goody's you may want to make a nice model of your dreams truck. New kits
Kostas Parchas replied to skulls's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
James, Sit down and think seriously what kits you want and how many. Then try directly to the distributor. The secret to do this is to keep in mind that Italeri kits are shipped in boxes of 8 pieces. So if you order 8 kits of the same part code you may have a better price. Note also that a long time relationship between you and the distributor also may count for lower prices. That is what I do. Last time I ordered directly from the distributor 40 kits, so the price was collapsed in comparison with a kit price from a local hobbie shop. For example the italeri kit 3857 Peterbilt long hauler here in Greece in a LHS costs about 44-48€ but as i wrote, 40 kits directly from the distributor dropted the price per kit down to 32.50€. It is at least 10€ cheaper and that price diference can overcover the shipping/dellivery costs from distributor to you. Excuse me for typing prices in euros but i don't think that it is fair to exchange prices in USD since every day the exchange price between Euro & USD is up & down. Kostas. -

Blue Peterbilt 357-115 SBFA
Kostas Parchas replied to mackinac359's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Tim, Nice workhorse you did once again. I like those pictures with real backdrops. I cannot understand the story of this truck? I mean that it was builded and used in a broshure back in 2005 and then it was just sitting at the Denton plant? No one wanted this truck, this is a great working mashine, why? Let me tell you something, tell them Peterbilt guys next time they want to make a new broshure they should use photos of your model trucks. It is cheaper than a working truck just sitting in the yard. Kostas. -
Revell Peterbilt 353. Not so bad?
Kostas Parchas replied to BigBad's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I haven't this kit but right now I am rebuilding the RoG 359 KIT which was in combo with the car hauler. It is really a nice kit and as Tim dose, you can modify it in many ways to have a nice result. take a look here: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=26447 Kostas. -

Kostas Parchas replied to catd11rpusher's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
You can use your imagination and experiment with materials. I have seen in the past even jeans been used to simulate curtains and blankets. Old clothes can be also used especialy t-shirts because they are soft. About cabintets and etc you can use styrene or wood.... Kostas. -
