  1. Thanks for all the great compliments, guys! I had planned to paint the standard multi-colored flames, but thought the white would look better with the green. I'm glad I went with the white. The flame mask worked really well. I'll be using more of them! Sam
  2. Larry's G Scale has a lot of good stuff in 1/25 (or 1/24). http://www.larrygscale.com/servlet/StoreFront

  4. Good lookin' Merc! I like the two tone color scheme. It helps break up that big side area. The chrome spears on the hood and trunk are a nice touch, too. Good job! Sam

  12. Yeah, another Revell 49 Merc. I love this kit - it just falls together, and everything fits! This one is an out of the box build with 60 T-Bird taillights, and painted flames added. I got the kit from Junior (Mercman) in a trade (thanks, Junior!). The flames were done with a flame mask by Lazy Modeller in Australia (got it off eBay). The mask worked great, even with spray can paint! Great product! Colors are Testors Mystic Emerald, with gloss white flames, and just a tiny bit of orange on the end of the flames. After applying the mask, I sprayed on a coat of clear, which prevented any white from running under the mask on door lines, etc. The interior is white and gold. It's not perfect, but I'm pleased with the look. It's shown here on my just completed downtown car show diorama. I enjoyed this build, and I hope you like it. Comments welcome. Sam
  13. Hey, guys, this is a diorama I just made to simulate a car show typical of many downtown type shows seen all across the country. It's a two piece L shaped unit that fits on two 6' folding tables, and holds about 22 models. I'll have it on display in some local 1:1 car shows this summer. Here it is set up in our back porch. Here's a closer, spectator's eye view on the corner. The diorama is on a wooden base with black foamboard for the pavement. Building fronts are foamboard with some plastic windows and doors, and some just printed on posterboard, and framed with wood sticks. The church window is a plastic kit I made in Vacation Bible School 50 years ago! I've been working on the dio for about four months. I also plan to use it for a model photo backdrop. It was a fun build! Hope you like it. Sam

  17. Tom, I have used some Rustoleum tan paint on two different models, and it does take days to dry! It dried to a great shine, but I had to wait about four days to handle the models. I once used some other rust preventing paint called XO Rust in a dark blue color with the same slow drying time. Maybe whatever they put in paints like that to prevent rust makes it dry slow. I brought my painted bodies up from my cold basement workshop to our sunporch where they get some sunlight and warm air. That helps a little. Sam
  18. Wow! Nice Dodge! I built that kit a while back and liked it. Yours is incredible! Great detail under the hood! Sam
