  2. Great tips, guys. Thanks for the responses! -Art
  3. That's a great tip! Nice looking model too...
  4. Gentlemen, Thanks for your responses. That's exactly the kind of discussion I was hoping to have. I know that my mistakes aren't causing huge flaws, but incorporating some of the tips and precautions above, and adhering to my own processes will go a long way. With every build I am learning what NOT to do! I appreciate all of your input. -Art
  5. Hi all, Since getting into the hobby again recently and gotten a few builds done, I'm finding that I'm causing damage to the nicely painted pieces during assembly. Maybe I'm not being patient enough or what,I'm not sure. It seems to get more difficult as the build progresses. So my question is, does anyone have any tips, techniques, or processes you've learned to help minimize wear and tear as you're building? Thanks! Art
  6. Thanks, guys! Very much appreciated... -Art
  7. Very nice work. I love the open grill. What bit did you use in the Dremel? Also, did the ignition coil come with the kit? I need to add one to a Corvette 427 on the bench. Art
  8. Well if you lose any hubcaps or blinkers, I can cast those!
  9. It just might end up with them!
  10. Thanks. Yes, I'm about halfway through the trim so far. I'm not sure if i like it yet. If it doesn't photograph well, I may take it off. -Art
  11. Dave, thanks. That means a lot.
  12. Thanks for the comments, guys! This is my son's dream ride, so I built it for him. Maybe when he's 16 he can get a real one! Dave, the chrome is Alclad II Chrome. The front bumper is all chrome, so I think what you're seeing is the reflection of the studio floor. The VW logo is bare metal foil. I used Donn Yost's process straight from his video for my paint. I've only built a few models, and using that method has worked pretty well for me. I can understand your pain with the window trim. I masked it all off and trimmed it with an Xacto blade and it was very laborious. And then it wasn't very good, so I spent a long time touching it up with a brush. It's still not great, but good enough for pictures! -Art
  13. Hello, I've seen a few buses pop up lately, so here's mine. I put it in this category because it's not quite done. I still need to finish the decaling, the roof racks, license plates and surfboards, then I'll move it over to "Under Glass". I have to thank VW Dave, without whose help this would not have gotten completed. I call this the "Murphy Bus", because all kinds of stuff went wrong. I had paint problems, so it's been stripped three times and painted twice. My dog literally ate the headlight bezels and I lost the exhaust pipe, all of which Dave so kindly provided for me. Then, I lost a hubcap and a front blinker, so I cast some copies in resin. They turned out well, as I can't tell which ones are the copies. Other than that, it's box stock. Hope you enjoy, and comments and critiques are welcome. Art
  14. I'm saying REAL. If I'm wrong, I wanna know who built it!!
  15. Very fun! Nicely done!
  16. Very good to hear. He might want to consider some safety glasses with that Dremel too!! As I look at this thread again, I still can't believe how good he is!
  17. Mike, Your son does great work, and you should be really proud. I'm hoping I can get my son engaged to that degree. I got him started anyway. Here he is laying down some primer on an Indy Car. -Art
  18. Very nice, weasel! I'm curious where you got the hood pins. -Art
  19. John, How did you accomplish the tire lettering on the car? Thanks, Art
  20. This is one of my favorite builds of John's. At the Lower Left Coast NNL, he had pictures displayed in front of the model. I was amazed how much the model represented the pictures, not realizing for a few minutes that the pictures were of the model that was right in front of me and not the actual crash. Felt kinda dumb for a minute...
  21. I would just chalk it up to great minds think alike. If there's one guy who doesn't need to steal an idea, it's John. I attended a couple shows where John's builds were displayed and was blown away.
  22. John, As always, very nice! -Art
  23. Beautiful!
  24. Real nice. Good job!
