  1. Alyn, This may be my favorite rat-rod I've seen on the site. I absolutely love everything about it. The weathering is perfect and the missing door panels in the interior is genius. Some times you see those cars that make you stop and go "wow"; this is one of those. Well done! Funny thing too is that I'm not a big fan of the rat-rods in 1:1 but knowing all the work and techniques that it takes to make a scale model look right, rust and weathering-wise, makes me appreciate and enjoy the model versions. Nice work everyone on these!
  2. Do you guys think that a layer of future over the puttied areas before final priming and painting would help minimize the amount of "bleed" of solvent from the paint into the putty? Or, what about a coat of clear lacquer over the putty and letting that gas out for a while then sanding before paint? Just sort of thinking out loud here.
  3. That turned out very nice. The little details really bring it all together. Motor looks fantastic.
  4. Great. I read all this AFTER I've just done a bunch of body work with Squadron green putty. Are the problems with this putty shrinking over a long time pretty much guaranteed? Or are they just a sometimes thing? I'd really hate for the 2 builds I'm working on to be ruined down the road from shoddy putty.

Man, that thing looks sharp! Nice job bringing the picture to life!
  6. I'm glad you are ok but I think the bigger lesson here it that eye protection is a really really good idea when doing model stuff. I've started wearing a clear sunglasses style, though admittedly only usually when using the dremel but I might start wearing them a little more often now! Be safe everyone!
  7. Looking good so far. Doesn't matter if it's accurate or period correct, John; if you're building it, I'm watching!
  8. I may or may not end up joining you all on this but I wanted to say that this is a really cool idea for a group build and I'll be watching along regardless. Can't wait to see these get started!
  9. Welcome aboard!
  10. The gravel and lack of dust on the tires was what was throwing me off. But there's too much else about this to not be real. So my vote is for real on this one. Pretty car!
  11. This is looking great! I've got one of these I'm working on right now too, and I've got to tell you, I think I'm going to have to move the front wheel openings forward on mine, too. Looks way better, matching the rears like that. Nice work. The new rims look good too, what did you paint the white walls with?
  12. Oh man how sad! This thing was lookin' good! Bummer about that clear. Are those tires from the '56 kit as well? I've been eye balling that kit just for the rims, if the tires are in there too I think I'd be sold on it! Thanks.
  13. I've found that is doesn't really like metallic paints (at least not old stuff) or old acrylic black. Other than that I've had no problems either. As an aside, my nearest Wal-Mart stopped selling it for a while but when I was in there the other day they had a whole rack of it again, so I bough a jug of it. Nice to have as I was down to just a tiny bit of uses stuff.
  14. So far the color and wheel choice look great. Looking forward to this one coming along!
  15. Beautiful color. I can't wait to see where this is going.
  16. Did you warm the can before spraying? I've found with the Testors lacquers that they spray better when warmed. That being said, I'm pretty sure these are designed as a two stage paint system and come out best when they've been covered with the wet-look clear. Before the clear, they do seem to have a slight rough texture.
  17. Wow, those are all nice but this one is freaking amazing! It all looks so right with the mid engine and all. Perfect color too. Beautiful build! If anyone hasn't clicked the photo, do so and look through the build pics. Just amazing and a unique concept!
  18. Just beautiful! Looks fast just sitting there.
  19. Hi Rich, I'm pretty sure I custom mixed it until it looked right by my eyes. I started with Testors Gloss Dark Blue enamel and mixed in a little Gloss Gray enamel and maybe, some white; the one's in the little square bottles. Sorry I can't be more specific but I hope that helps! ~Ryan
  20. Hey! Looks what got a big bump. Thanks for the comments everyone. The more I've been looking at this one on my shelf the more I feel like I need to BMF the windows and trim to really complete it. If I do I'll take some new photos's.
  21. This is just another phenomenal build, John. You really show true artistry with your builds. Can't wait to see this finished up.
  22. That's going to be a beauty when finished up. Nice color choice. Where are the wheels and tires from?
  23. I don't think I could handle the sinking, seeing how I live here...but floating out to join Hawaii...I could be okay with that.
  24. Nice looking Charger. I, too, like the Halibrand Sprint style wheels. They look the best and fill the wheel wells a little better.
  25. That's gotta be a paper model!
