  1. Tinted glass and a dark recess... EASY! Cut the hole and place a black painted hollow, correctly shaped, beneath it. If it just HAS to be clear... vac-form and tint the scoop below. The third option is to make a mold for the whole darned glass and vac-form it. But the first solution is always the simplest. J
  2. Primed and ready for paint! Just need to figure out a paint scheme now....
  3. Segway has two wheels. Computer senses the lean and automatically changes the current flowing to the individual motors. This one is more tactile I think....
  4. Now that is not something you see every day! Very nice build and... darned, if I don't want to build one now.
  5. Oooohhhh don't tease me man!
  6. After another two hours spent last night.... this is as far as I am. The body is now one piece for the first time! Canopy has been glued together and sanded smooth. This will act as the mold for a vac-formed piece, to be painted and detailed to look more like its "sport plane" derived. Gear down shot required some new thinner doors created. The original thick cast doors will be stuck in place for pictures only. Almost there...
  7. Nor is the county, LOL!
  8. Personally I paint one coat of primer and one color coat on any door, trunk and hood jams per model. You can do any number of coats on the rest of the car but the jambs (just like a real car) should only get one coat of color to ensure clean fitment. When building a quality model car, you can learn a lot from the pros who paint and build the real thing...
  9. Okay, hearing no dissention regarding the extension... Update: Spent 2 hours last night on the German FW 190 entry. I think that in another couple of hours I may be ready to begin painting. Pictures later.
  10. Digital cameras are a lot quicker than film! That is why I lamented using a motor in my build just to swing the prop for a digital camera picture, which will mostlikely stop the darned prop anyway....
  11. Brass browns as it ages. Medium to dark brown paint might replicate that perfect. If you have real brass then subject it to ammonia fumes for a few seconds and see the effects. Striking actually!
  12. The motion has been seconded. I guess we don't need a vote since there are still two other (besides me) builders who have not posted lately. I guess another 15 days wouldn't hurt. Sorry Matthew. You and Wayne seem to be the only ones able to finish with-in a deadline. (Maybe I can even finish now?) Jairus
  13. BRAVO! Build time is done at 8pm in Hawaii so the next few days will be for taking some beautiful pictures (Like Highway) and starting a Poll thread so the rest of the forum can vote on the best. Edit: Seems there are two requests (not including mine) for an extension of the deadline. So an additional 15 days has been added to allow three (or more) builders time to finish. This is a solid 15 days with no chance of shortening it... .new deadline is now: October 7th at 8pm Hawaii time. We will post a poll thread with what ever is done on the next day and contestants are allowed to post three final pictures then. K? K! I know what I will be doing this evening besides watching "Survivor"..... (Nice job Matthew.)
  14. That is some "old school" building tricks. Very nice! Keep it simple and no photoetch, good job. I would suggest picking up some Floquil flat paint for a final touch. Just airbrush it over everything to mute down the glossy surfaces after you are done handling it. (not the glass of course) Floquil is not enamel so it can be sprayed on tires too.
  15. Tomorrow is the end of Summer and the end of this build off. After working 10 hour days I just didn't have the energy to finish my entry. However looks like we might have at least a few entrys to judge. Keep building guys!
  16. My very favorite vintage sports car just barely edging out the Daytona 'cause the styling was so much better. Beautiful work so far, just beautiful!

    Sketch Pad Art

Don't remember any white '58 Impala's but Yeah... got a couple Chargers. Neither was used in a Sketchpad. Well now, I do remember one purple '69 that went into a Car Modeler mag wwwaaaayyy back! I'll see if I can find it.

Rob, My signature block contains both links.
  19. By golly I think John has.... IT! Yes fellow modelers, "IT" is that little bug in your head that says you will build this project just rightregardless, never settling for second best! I like what I am seeing John. Turbo is perfect once you get that little butterfly in the waste-gate. (Dang, you almost make me want to build one too....)

    Sketch Pad Art

I see that I have not posted anything in this thread for a while. So since V suggested that I "Keep it alive", here are some pics that were published in another magazine. It was a two page spread much like SketchPad but with three illustrations centering on one vehicle. This time it was a 1961 Ford Uni-body pickup. I kept the interior mostly stock but with a little billet in the dash with modern gauges and a steering wheel. (forget the maker) The basic premiss was to take a chassis from the "then new" Lightning F-100 and put it under a lightly customized '61 body. Note the little Lightning touches and side door handle used on the tailgate? I think most of the color you see was photoshopped in once I scanned in a line drawing. This was so I could customize freely. The basic design was first sketched in pencil, then modified till I liked it. Then a careful line drawing done in ink and sent to the scanner. Once there I did mostly what Harry shows in his excellent tutorial, just block off an area and start airbrushing. Takes a long time but the results are worth it. Plus... the airbrush doesn't need cleaning.
  21. Very nice Harry!
  22. Yes, that's me racing Gregg! Total bummer that he ended up killing the engine and my winning the race....
  23. And a bit more....
