  1. Not to mention the inserted posters (Queen "Jazz") and image wheels (Zepp III), fly zipper (Stones "Sticky Fingers"), and all the other artistic album covers (Alice Cooper). It is a lost art....
  2. Thanks Mark. I have both... just prefer spinning vinyl and the tactile feeling of the cardboard sleeve and large black disc.
  3. Ken if you actually READ the thread you will find quite a bit of debate over music and I was not the first to hint at the lack of good music on the airwaves today. Nore was I the first to make a judgement call on someone else's musical tastes. (Or lack thereof) So calling only me out makes you a hypocrite... or a fan. I am not sure which at this time... Thanks for the salutations tho... and I totally agree with Mark's choice of "Kind of Blue", which is spinning on the turntable now as I type!
  4. Hahahahah   That is funny coming from such a Drama-queen such as yourself Ken. I just feel that those who want to post what they like should say the name of the group and song instead of adding a link to "freaking who knows what" to support their odd preferences in music! Nice post....
  5. Put in all the links you guys want... I won't listen to ###### no matter how it is presented. I listen to classic Rock (Everyone knows that Rock & Roll was perfected in 1973 - Homer Simpson), Jazz, Blues, Classical and Talk Radio all day regardless if I am drawing, building models or slots. Best music resides on vinyl and the names of all the artists and bands would fill a 5 gallon bucket so I won't bother mentioning even a few or posting links. Very few of the "popular" artists today will be around even two years from now due to a fickly public and a money greedy music industry who wants nothing better than to make millions by "discovering" the next Beatles or Elvis. Not to mention force feeding it down the publics throat like the stillborn "Back Street Boys".
  6. Good position for Art Anderson in my opinion!
  7. Actually I think it is sad. I learned about model cars in the very beginning by watching my Dad at the kitchen table. Still remember the feeling of seeing AMT '56 Ford pickup come together complete with welding tanks in the bed! I taught all 3 of my kids how to build and my son still has many of his built models in little Johan or AMT plastic display cases. For my kids, however, the modeling bug just didn't germinate. But, that said... if you replaced the word "model cars" with "Install my Operating System", well then that would be funny!
  8. Raul, my illustration was never intended to be a Panel van... rather a "Sport Woodie" wagon with glass windows. As for the carbon fiber.... that was something Gregg dreamed up about 10 years ago. He also wanted to do the framing in aluminum or some such thing. Me... I believe a woodie should be made out of WOOD or else just sand it smooth and paint.
  9. James is correct, but even before submitting to AMT that illustration ran in an issue of "Car Modeler", Sept. 1995. Note that the headlight buckets are slightly sunk into the fenders - a standard pre-war customizing trick. Short story was that AMT wanted me to submit 30 or more illustrations so they could pick 8 designs. I got paid a set rate for each illustration (most designs were new but some were previously published in SAE, CM and Plastic Fanatic) submitted and they kept the originals. In addition, for each design that they went ahead and chose for production I received an additional fee. Also requested was for me to produce a second view so the entire car could be seen from all angles for the mold makers. Original box art for "Rod Ragious" for instance has printed on it both illustrations as I submitted. Later on AMT only printed the front view... "Black Force" is an example were the rear view illustration was replaced with photos of the actual model. However, the model is exactly like my illustration other than the greater size... but that is another story. The "Wagon Rod" I did not know about until a master had already been made and the molds being cut. This information was provided to me by Mike Oden, Graphic Supervisor for Ertiltoys.com. I was told off hand that they had picked another design and that a check would be mailed... but they never asked for a front view. Furthermore, I was told it would be a fully detailed model kit and not a snap kit! I was very happy to hear this until someone sent me some photos of the mock-up or test shots. I told them I hated the headlights and that this was a bad idea. But the molds by then could/would not be modified and the kit was produced with little of my influence other than the one illustration you see above. All in all it is not bad kit and has a lot of great parts. I like the direction you are going Raul. Keep it up!
  10. Yes. Why? I do it all the time, what is the big deal? Just takes research, a little knowledge of materials and the desire to simply DO IT!
  11. So David, you are saying that they should try harder next time huh?
  12. Liked the clothing and music but didn't agree with their political views.
  13. oh.... Guess I was mixing up the "Hemi-sphere" and the "Hippie hemi" kits. So sorry! Being an artist it is always nice to see pictures in the beginning of the thread for context. But still doesn't alleviate my embarrassment much though...
  14. Okay, I stand corrected here.... ...but I built that Garlits kit when I was in Middle School, 1971 and it certainly looks the same to me! Yeah the kit I built back then had the body cast in CLEAR along with a clear oil pan! Strangely enough, the Hippy Hemi body has the oil pan connected to the very same tree ... weird huh? AMT/ Round 2 is doing a lot of re-issues of old stuff lately and I really don't think they have the time or money to make a new mold for a body on a re-issued kit. So logic says that this body came out of the SAME mold as the Garlits kit but in the interest of getting along... you guys can believe what you want to believe.
  15. Don't mind Harry. He gets lost sometimes.....
  16. Thats what I said!
  17. It's a model of the the first dragster to hit 200mph on the 1/4 mile. That would be at Lyons Drag Strip so give it some respect dudes .... nuf' said?
  18. Good pictures of Steve and Jimmy! (Ah... that was Jimmy Keeler, right?) I am amazed you got Kelly off the island by the way, and looks like a great show. Those guys love color.

    Sketch Pad Art

Hey Tom, that looks pretty good! I will see if I can find the rest of them and post here later.

    Sketch Pad Art

No more Phantom ad's that I know of. But that is a good idea for a future SketchPad huh? Yeah that was mine. Printed in one of the last issues of Plastic Fanatic I believe. I searched my computer for an hour and could not find the image. If I run across it I will post. Got to be somewhere.....
  21. I have experienced you modelers in those hot climates in So Cal, Texas and Arizona. YOU DON'T GO FREAKING OUTSIDE! A black shirt has no effect when you jump from an air-conditioned house to an air-conditioned car to an air-conditioned hobby shop! For heavens sake.... quit whining! (White shirts will be available later.... sheesh)
  22. Brian, I built a 1969 Mustang Convertible a number of years ago. Using various issues of "Mustang Monthly" and "Mustangs and Fast Fords" as research material I painted my car as shown. You see... many of the readers back then would write in and ask about correct colors of this and that along with correct inspection markings. So this is as close as you are going to probably get. Of course, I could be wrong on some of the minor points... but it won a few nice awards in it's day...

Just Right-Click on the image and you should get an option to save on your hard drive.

Great work on that Camaro Tom. I think I like the look of the Maroon stripes better than the black! This is how I submitted the piece to SAE. They had run a similar sketchpad a year earlier with a Faux Pontiac ad (Or was that in MCM?) but editor Kirk Bell would only allow the Camaro convt alone and definitely would not allow the Chevrolet logo. So... that is how it ran in SAE. When I told Gregg he just snorted. This image is rarely seen...
  25. That was just too funny! This is Eleanor! All others are posers...
