Well hello Tom! Do you remember me? It’s been many years. I dropped out of the hobby about the time you had that now I’m famous picnic in your garage. I’m glad to be back in it these days, and especially glad that you stopped by and enjoyed what I have posted. I have a couple of other topics posted in the Model Cars forum, and if you’d like to take a look at my Fotki page, here is the link. https://public.fotki.com/Tallboy6241/ I have already made a few good friends on this forum, and I look forward to meeting, and sharing ideas, and inspirations with many more.

Claude, I already know you are a top shelf model builder, and I think you are aware of Mikes talent. You guys all humble me when you come around to check out my work. And Francis adds even more to my humility. Thanks for stopping by. I feel like I’ve found a group that I can truly strive to measure up to, even if I never quite get there. BTW, I absolutely love Le Cirque du Soleil! I used to go to their shows every time they came to Houston. They don’t come around my part of Vermont very often. -

Well Claude that is an excellent question. I have often wondered the same thing myself. Must be really old. ? TS -
Wow, Thanks Mike! It is nice to have a forum like this where a person can dive deeper into the bones of a build. Too often, a lot of fine work gets overlooked because it gets hidden inside, or underneath. At least here, we can peal off the layers, and expose the highlights. As a former national contest administrator, and judge, I have spent hours and hours with flashlights and magnifying glasses, pouring over some of the best built models at the time, and it is extremely difficult to notice everything. This is like a build book.

Hi Mike, it’s great to see you here my friend! And thank you very much for the good words. I’m not sure about my caliber, because I goof up a lot. Then I have to make the decision as to whether or not I need or want to go back and fix it. My models are not built to compete in contests, so it’s only about how I want it to come across on forums like this one. Sometimes it becomes a great opportunity to learn something.

Thanks for taking a look, and your kind words Anton!

Metric? Imperial? What is this foreign language? It is a U.S. dime after all. TS -
Personally, I don’t post my work fishing for compliments. There are always lots of them, but observations, suggestions, and yes even constructive criticism, are all ways for us to learn, and become better model builders. Bring it on I say! I have pretty thick skin. I can handle it. Thanks again Trevor. A day when I learn something is a great day indeed! TS

Thank you very much for this Trevor! I learned something here today. I’ll be the first to admit that I am not well schooled in the nuts and bolts of engine design, but the way you laid it out makes good sense. As I mentioned earlier, I suspect that the 3D designer was more interested in featuring the Arden script than in accuracy of the head design. It’s not pedantic at all, because it taught me something, but in all likelihood, I’ll leave it alone. Here is a pic of a Lincoln block that supports you statement. TS

Hi Pat, I just came across your topic, and found it interesting in that I have been working on a similar project, and have a topic about it. You may be interested in taking a look. We have been having the same discussion about the plug spacing, and you and I came to essentially the same conclusion. Here is a link
-
Thank you for your input Andrew! I agree, aluminum injector stacks would look much better! I may do that. None of the fuel system is permanently in place yet.
-
Well, one reason could be that Arden never made a head for a V12, so we have to assume that if they did, it would be configured like the V8. That being said, after seeing the pics that Trevor posted of the open head, I agree that it is logical, and three sets of two would be a more likely design than two sets of three. The 3D designer on the other hand was probably more interested in capturing the familiar Arden name plate between the spark plug sets, and it would look funny to have it twice on each valve cover. If I were planning to compete in the GSL with this model, I’d probably try to figure out a work around, but since the only competition this build will ever see is for space on my own display shelf, I probably won’t. I doubt it would stand much of a chance against the likes of Randy D. or Mark J. anyway.

Thanks for stopping by Art, and also for your kind words! Anything I can do to help, just let me know> Thanks Dennis!

Thank you Mike! Those are excellent suggestions all! I’ve been pondering them all, and I have not made a decision on either the windshield or the headlights yet. Thank you very much Bill!

Thank you Bruce!

Thank you Craig! Your comments are very encouraging to me.

Art, I’m not new to this forum, but I’ve been pretty dormant for several years and I’m just now catching up with your build. Your work is awesome, especially for your first effort with brass. Your soldering skills are impressive indeed. I too am a brass scratch builder. If you get a chance, I would like to invite you to check out a new thread that I just posted in the forum yesterday titled “Hot Rod Lincoln”. Many people think brass work is intimidating but, once they try it, they become hooked. I look forward to following your progress through to completion of this project. I have an advantage in that I came into this movie six years late, and hopefully I won’t have to wait long to see how it comes out.

Thanks David! Glad to have you along for the ride!

Takes one to know one Francis! Your Friend, The clown on the tricycle.?

Thank you JC!

Thank you once again for your interest and feedback Claud! Your own talent and creativity blows me away, so reading your comments is very encouraging. I have given thought to leaving much of this build in bare metal. When I was posting this thread last evening, I came across the last pic, and thought it might not be bad to just go ahead and call it done. Obviously, I’m not inclined to do that however, so I will press on. In all likelihood, the whole car will be painted, I haven’t completely decided however if I want to do it in a show car finish, or a weathered and driven patina. This whole build has been an evolutionary process, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see what evolves.

No no no Ricky, this forum is not about giving up! It’s about displaying individual creativity, and encouraging others to take a step out of their own comfort zones, and try new ideas that they had previously thought to be too difficult or impractical. This kind of work is not that difficult. If you see something you like, don’t hesitate to ask questions, and then try it yourself. You may surprise yourself at how nice it comes out.
