  1. I take the color of the panel lines out of the equation by scribing the lines deep. I always use black or a very dark brown. When you look at the panel lines on a real car, you don't see gray or a color similar to the body, you see black or just plain old dark. You only have to worry about color choices when you don't scribe them deep enough.
  2. If I recall, Finescale magazine had some info on this subject and it was very good. It was about 2 or 3 issues back.
  3. Some panel lines in several kits permit you to start with a blade but a scriber is an essential starting tool to obtain the best results.
  4. Nothing like sharing your thoughts and answers accompanied by photos!
  5. You have to start with a scriber first and it has to be done EXTREMELY lightly, cannot stress that enough. After a few pases, use the back of a #11 blade and make sure the blade is DULL! that's the trick to this!
  6. Chilyb1, this is the reason I scribe my lines deep at the beginning right on the plastic. You can even add more wash to the panel lines at the primer stage before sanding the primer itself and before adding your color coats. The deeper the panel lines, the better they will work at the end. Try it with a spare body and a light color, I am sure it will work!
  7. No Jim, those lines are deep enough, paint and primer will not be an issue. Now, if it does happen you still dont have to worry, you can always go back and add paint if necessary.
  8. Thanks Harry, that's what I always do. First thing I do even before the primer is scribe my lines with the back of an X-Acto #11 blade partially dull, try not using a brand new one for this, it will go all over the place. You have to work with a lot of patience and very lightly at first. After that, just use thinned down paint, it has to be very "watery", capillary action will help here. Usually, after this initial step, you will not need to add any more paint but even if you do, since the lines are scribed nice and deep, it will be easy to do it after the body is painted! 9. I think this is something that eventually a modeller will put into practice as time goes on. I don't see it as critisism, I see it as a learning opportunity. For the kids out there, I am sure it is not directed at their skills but something to keep in mind as you develop them. Having said that I do agree with some people stating the fact that some don't mind them, it is their model after all and it's about having fun putting it together. In the other hand, if you are going to compete at a judged contest, well, you can kiss the trophy goodbye!

  19. Hey guys, I am thinking about putting some pictures together for future reference of the GT40 MK1 car. I have searched google and found some stuff already but if someone here can share some better pictures, I would certainly appreciate it. I am mostly interested in engine/plumbing/wiring reference. Of course, interior pictures are also cool. Can anyone help with a cool link or personal pictures? I am seriously considering putting one of these together soon since I already own the resin engine from Historic Racing Miniatures! Thanks!
