  1. Randy Travis sing to a humble pie song....... whats this world coming too? i dont thing Randy can get as high as Steve marriott though.. singing that is.
  2. unfortunatly blueoval, those times are long gone and will never come back. i can remember actually going into the boneyards and pulling pieces ourselves, and paying boneyard prices. to build a rat rod today still has to cost a pretty penny cause any piece anyone has today, they think its ultra rare. it seams it would take a lot more searching for parts today than it did in the past. i am sure by comparison, its still dirt cheap.
  3. Ken, excellent post, especially the " the car is alot more rattier than it looks". why do you lean toward the "rat" style insted of cleaning it up and making a shiny street rod out of it. strickly budgit? i am glad you chimed in.
  4. AHHHHH!!! who needs streamline.... you a blown hemi pushin ya thru to the traps.... no problems!!! nice representation of days gone by!!

    '57 Chevys

nice, that black widow in top notch. may have to get me 1, or 6!!!
  7. great idea and execution!!! just plaiin nice all the way around.
  8. nice build. color is great, so use to seeing the hugger orange and daytona yellow ones. what might work is thin square evergreen as the trim. use white (elmers) glue to hold it down till you get the right shape. glue it in place and trim your top right up to it. may take some practice. one of these years, i will get my yenko done. (also doing a ZL-1 and a COPO). thanks for sharing.
  9. neat build! great subject and detail. someone can even throw the step ladder in the back after youget in!! love those big ford motors!!! high octane, can you be more specific please, i have plans on building a phantom gasser or 2. in the 1 to 1 world, whats wrong with it?
  10. yes, i have talked to rat rod guys, also import guys, biker guys, stock guys and any other type of car guy that rolls in. i like to get a feel for why these people build or drive what they do. as far as the a-hole or idiots, you will find them in every group. no doubt about that! in my opinion, i would say that the most, lets just say "stuck on himself" guy is the one who paid to have his stock, rare factory musclecar over-restored and shows up at the show with it on a trailor and bosts about how much its worth!! i have plenty of stories 'bout this but i will save it for another topic we all can chime in on.
  11. this isn't a book, but my Super Stock and Drag Illistrated magazines are hands down my favorite. i have the 1st issue thru the early 80's and refer or just read them at least 4 times a week. more than any hardback book i have (and i have 20 or so hard backs).
  12. WOW!! this is a trick question cause i dont have more than 5 finished kits and they are all different. i have 20 or so of the 70 pro street super bee. if i had to go with "soon to be finished", i have 6 or 7 of the lindburg 64 dodges going and another 8 or 10 on the shelf and i still buy them when i see them cheap enough.
  13. yes, agreed, but for instance, this weekend is the mopar nats, i have attended it for years, until lately. friends come from all over and gather together. and each year, the cars look better and better, new paint, chrome, interiors, even overrestored. conversations lean to getting new this or that from year 1, summit, legendary. i cant even imagine the conversation with the rat rod crowd...." yea, i' put my fenders outside this winter for some more rust, dont they look great" or "got some old posters this weekend for my headliner" or "i had my neighbors kids come over and wet sand the body"
  14. you said it!!! btw, do you ever sleep?
  15. exhibit C (now we are talking!!!) building a car from a small budgit, ok, slapping things om cars just cause its laying around, i silly to me. its a challange to see who can put the wierdist thing on your car!!
  16. looks like these things were built right at a flea market.....
  17. i hear you, i remember when i was 17 and brought my first road runner home with open headers, i pretty much offended everyone in the neighborhood, especially, my dad!! Mr. 4 door buick le Sabre!!!! God rest his soul.
  18. i really would like to hear what you have to say. anyone who has "HOT RODDING" in thier blood can, or should. nobody should have blinders on when they head out to a car show. i love talking to these rat rod guys. they're a few fries short of a happy meal, but i think we all are if we are true hot rodders. thats the difference between me and my buddy, he says " i'd NEVER build something like that" and i say "why did you build something like that".
  19. hey guys, this is exactly what i and probably a few others was looking for. i understand about a style of car "in its own class", i know everyone builds what they like and has certain preferences, THATS what i am after, what makes you like "rusted, chopped, poster interior, primer, if any paint at all, unground welds, and 4 different makes of cars/trucks on 1 vehicle? can i appreciate it, heck yea, understand it, thats another story. i would rather see a nice shiny flathead in a bright red painted 32 highboy. as far as 1:25 scale goes, i do have plans to venture off the pro street path with some different builds, but i dont know if i am gonna venture down the rat rod road any tiime soon. and thanks for the clarification on the "retro" and "rat" rod definitions. it for sure is the hottest thing going right now. oh, and gassers. now i understand gassers, flat black or primer as paint, still cant figure that one out either. hey bigphoto, yes, i was there, and many others too. they were the best show ever, i went to them from about 78 on for more than a few years. drove a few 440 and hemi powered runners to them. they even let us nuts out on the indy 500 track. THAT was fun!!! there is a great thread on yellow bullit that covers the show, that and the hot rod nats. both great shows.
  20. let me start out by saying i am a 52 year old car nut that enjoys all motor vehicles and in no way am slamming or putting down anybody or any style car. i appreciate them all....... but ...... can someone please tell me what the whole rat rod or retro thing is all about, yea, back in the day, guys thru things together to go hot rodding. but in todays world, if i put effort and cash into building something, its NOT going to have rust, insualtion (or posters) on the doors, roof and floors, the paint will shine and it will have some chrome on it. so i guess what i am asking is give me your reasons (if possible, sometimes, its just a thing) why you would take the time and effort to go "backwards" in building a street rod. this is all in fun. please keep it that way. and if by chance it doesn't go that way, please shut this post down. thanks,
  21. thanks for the reply. i have so many of that coronet, i may just do that oneor maybe the charger 500. anyone got a coin?
  22. looking real good!! great job. one question, since you channeled the body over the frame, your motor now sits higher and i did not see a scoop on the hood. does your motor fit under the hood? i had this problem with a dart i am doing.
  23. you are right, but i see these nicely built models fall constantly to loaded up aftermarket builds. i have always pushed for a "PLASTIC/RESIN ONLY" catagory at shows. different from "box stock"........ anyone listening.........
  24. i agree Mike, the key word in your statement is "DISPLAY" i dont buy a lot of aftermarket stuff, i paint with enamels, and i tubb everything!! so i build for myself. now i have no problem "displaying" my builds with the knowledge that i didn't plan on winning anything. bowling turnament, yes i expect to win, model contest, i am happy when someone is just looking at my stuff. now sooner or later i will post a pro mod ford lightning that i am doing, doen't compare with whats posted on here, and i am going to try my hand at a lot of aftermarket stuff on this build, but am no way building for any show....... but i am sure it will find its way onto a few tables.
  25. the real sourse of the problem..... having a work area that is 1/100 the size of the actual bench you are working at because we never clean it off!! i do that with my x-acto knives - hence i have about 10 of them.
