finally got to see pages 76, 84 and 90. nice, but that rat-rod style chick dosn't do much for me. i found myself flipping back to the cars as far as the oil leak, when i see this guy at the local cruize, i can say, "hey, your car was in Hot Rod abd it leaks oil" how proud will he be that i know his car by the oil leak.

nice, keep them coming. really digging the caddy!!

really beautiful. i dont think a lot of those engine parts came straight out og the box though!! seriously, very nicely done. i have real problems dong one like this, i always try to "overkill" the build. those headers didnt come in that kit, did they? maybe i should start looking at small block stuff a little closer.

this will really be interesting! these are one of my favorite cars. going to be interesting to see the progress.

wikipedia says; A professional is a person who is paid to undertake a specialized set of tasks and to complete them for a fee. this does not include college athletes.........hehe.

boy, would really appreciate the pictures. how long would you say it took to correct the body? yours looks 100% better than the origional.really appreciate all you did.

i have to agree with you. the 71 and up runners dont have the appeal the 68-70 ones do. i have a few of these, if i was into more stock builds i would love to build a 72. would LOVE a 1/25 70 runner, but thats another post.

love it!! have done a few AWB cars out of plastic. too cheap to spend cash for the resin stuff. hey, if that grille has 1 headlight on each side, by all means get it to a resiin caster!!! i have been looking for that single headlight grille forever!!!! will be watching the progress.

restorations - paint by numbers or freestyle.....
tubbs replied to tubbs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
this is exactly what i mean, its your car and you should be able to do what you want. say i have a 69 judge, needs resoring, so i build the motor a little, put cragars on and change the expensive orange paint to black, and add different color stripes. did i ruin the car, no, but sure as you know what, i take to a show and someone will bitch at me cause i did not put it back to origional! thats expensive. been going to the mopar nats for a long time, my buddy had a pink 70 duster (maybe a 71, dont really remember) lots of options, ground uo resto. one year, he came in 2nd place because his car wasn't date coded properly, he spent over a grand date coding EVERYTHING in the engiine compartment. they nicked him because the foam insulation arounf the air vents in the interior was wrong. so i guess its like anything, the person with the most money wins! by the way, after date coding and numbers matching all the engine parts, it ran like ######!! but boy, the numbers were right!! -
i won't be on for awhile

restorations - paint by numbers or freestyle.....
tubbs replied to tubbs's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
a-ha!! here is where the problem lies.in the 1:1 world, does origional condition mean numbers matching. correct screws, nuts and bolts? even the radiator number has to be correct. (yes, Chrysler has part #'s that went with the hemi's, 440's and 383's). people memorize these numbers and when you display your proud beauty at a show.... SOMEONE will tell you "thats the wrong color" , "they used grade 8 bolts here, not those" , "all the numbers dont match"!! it gets sickening, and what really burns my butt is that a lot of these people dont even OWN a classic, they just know #'s and tell you that you have the wrong parts on your car. in the model world, i dont think it gets that bad, but i am sure soomeone will mention that that kit should have the axle going thru the block!! -
hey, good idea! maybe i should try those out on my kids.......... just kidding!!

here is a conversation that always stirs the pot, but in a good way. i hope? are you "paint by the numbers" restore the car EXACTLY the way it was bought...... or "freestyle", change the color, the motor, trans or even for for heavens sakes, TUB IT!! i will be 52 soon, so i, as well as others, have seen the rise and fall (yea, its fallen, don't be fooled) of the musclecar era. i remember buying road runners for $200 just for parts. now, that wont buy you the emblems and decals that go on it. in your opinion, does a car have to be returned to dead nuts stock? does it have to be origional right down to every nut and bolt? what if you see a 67 coronet R/T, origional 440 car, now has a hemi? how about a 69 Z/28 with a big block and cragars? how about a 70 super bee 440+6 cut, tubbed and turned into a drag car (i happen to know this gentleman, didn't know what he had when he did it). now, whole nother post about the people who try to pass off a fake car for a real car. when i had my hemi runner, a friend gave me heck because i purchased stick on emblems instead of the ones with the pins on the back. aftermarket instead of NOS. i hated going to shows and hear people say " thats not the right dohickey or whatchamacallit". just looking for some imput and stir things up. so whats your opinion on this subject? mine, you ask..... my hemi car was origionally F5 green with 2 tone green iinterior, bench seat, 4 speed. if i had it today, it would be black, black interior, racing seats, auto, full tube frame and tubbed. money wise, yea, i would have lost money on it, but i would have built it the way i wanted it, not the way somebody else orderd it! some people say sell it and buy another one... but its my car!! stock just isnt for me, but i can respect any car, no matter what the owner wants to do with it.

as stated earlier. i may get an old revell 66 charger and try to swap the quarters with the 67 R/T. maybe cut at the doors and to the top of the quarters all the way around and them mate the 2 together.

you are correct and i kow lots of these people. i am no engine builder, i dont know all the ins and outs of making true hp. i will pay someone to do it for menot because i have money, because i dont, because it will be right. then i would put it in and have fun. i dont care how it make power, just make power!! my car is pushing around 500+ hp, i can handle it, is it too much for the street? sure! thats why i am going for more power and building a blower motor (hopefully). that will be waaaayyyy too much power for what i need, i probably wont be able to handle it, i will never use that much power, it will never be to the strip, and i will half throttle it all over town. and it will be sooooooo coooool!!

love this stuff. my humble opinion, if it goes in a magazine, it better be perfect!! no dents, rips, worn stuff or leaks! magazine cars are top of the line stuff. the driven stuff is at your local cruizes. not saying the mag cars are not driven, but they better be toop notch when that camera comes out!! think of cars as the girls in those adult magazines, you want dents and drips on them? not that i have ever lookes at a playboy before?? depending if its a saturday night cruize or a major show, wiping down your car every 5 minuits is a bit crazy for me too, but once and hour should be perfect. my 69 runner is a pro street beast and barely gets washed. my neighbor did a ground up resto on a 71 cuda 440+6, did 100% of the resto himself, they inclosed trailor it to the nats, clean it constantly till judging, then beat the snot out of it for a day and a half and clean it when they get home. he would clean, polish and replace anything that was dented or dirty on the car for a mag shoot.... i know this cause he has had 3 cars in magazines. its based a lot on how you view the car, i appreciate trailor queens as well as the everyday driver. repairs, insurance and paint jobs are very expensive nowadays.

thanks for the pictures. you can really see the slope in the rear of the revell body. i was going to let this slide on my builds but everytime i look at that kit, i see that droopy rear end. i am going to take your pictures and see if i cant come up with a way to correct the problem. didnt realize the work to be done to the roofline.

thanks guys for your responses. Mr Obsessive, i would love to see that coronet. never thought of correcting it with the charger kit.
