i've messed with flocking as well. i usually watered the glue down a tad prior to flocking. there was a point where i would be able to customize how i wanted it to look. for example, you could do your first coat and cover the floor, then shake it as much as you can to get the excess out. once it's dry, apply another coat of the glue where i want it to look like floor mats (the glue will sit on top of the first coat, which gives it the raised up effect) and apply a different color flocking on top of that, and shake it out as much as possible. Once dry i'd shoot some compressed air from a safe distance to blow out any excess flocking that the shaking didn't take care of. The end result looks like i had the regular carpet, and on top of that, different colored floor mats. it's pretty easy to use, and with enough imagination can turn out a positive result!

So my sister decided to tell me what she was getting me for Christmas (which is nice lol). it's an airbrush that i have no idea which one it is, but it costs like $159 or so.. (not sure if that helps telling you which one it is or not?) anyways, i have never ever used an air brush before, so i need to ask the experienced folks what items i need to get, what i need to watch for, and any general "getting started" guidelines. i know i'll need an air compressor, but not sure what else i need. thanks everybody

ok so i went to the LHS today after work. wouldn't you know it, just as i'm walking into the car model isle, some other guy is walking out of the isle with my model choice. so i peeped around a bit and located something else. it's a 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429. it's in the year range. it's a huge gas guzzling motor. it's got two doors. i'm not a ford fan, but what the hey! Could you please update my entry? thanks!

One day, during a beautiful sunset, the Lone Ranger was riding ole Silver through the grassy plains. He approached the summit of a rolling hill, and as he gazed towards the bottom of the hill, he had noticed Tonto lying down on the ground with his ear on the ground. The Lone Ranger rides his trusty Silver down to Tonto, and asks “Hey, Tonto, do you hear something?†Tonto: “Yes. Hear horse and carriage,†while keeping his ear to the ground. Lone Ranger: “That’s pretty neat.†Tonto: “There are six horses.†Longer Ranger grows increasingly perplexed. Tonto: “Old man holding reigns. Long white beard. Woman in back with three children. Eating Bread.†Lone Ranger: “Wait a minute. How do you know all of that by having your ear to the ground??†Tonto: “they run me over four hours ago.â€

alright, frame 99.9% done. glue is drying (will let it dry overnight) just need to paint the parts in the frame, try to get it all set. i'll need to pick up some bottled semi-gloss black for uniformity and touch up the frame and other components. up next? interior. seat belts, carpeting, PE window cranks and door handles, then install the seats and stuff. here's the frame with the glue drying, paint bottles holding the wheels straight and flat.. the suspension won't be super detailed, as far as shocks and springs, though. at least for now, unless i can think of something else to do.

i must say that's very very impressive work. My specific favorite parts of your work is the attention to detail on the motors. i swear if i ever had that kind of patience..
-
yeah the trunk doesn't line up perfectly. i don't care for it enough to correct it at this time. i will be focusing more on body work, now that i'm more experienced than when i did this model, so when i get the new 64, it'll look better.

thanks for the advice everybody.. as far as taking tools with me, i don't think exacto knives and other forms of cutters would go over well with TSA at the airport i do plan on going to get a model while i'm out there, along with the necessary tools, so i can show him the basics. i'll definitely follow the advice given! thanks again everybody i, for one, am very excited.

Alright, so after reading about another person here passing the torch to their son who's working on a monster truck, i thought of an idea.. i'm going to be going up to visit family in michigan for about 10 days during Christmas. I found out that my nephew, who is 9, is reeeeeeeeeeally into star wars. I want to get him a beginner's star wars model for Christmas, and have never thought about purchasing the Star Wars models before. what would be a good recommendation for him? Is level 2 too big of a step to go with somebody who's quick at learning? i don't want him to be 100% bored with his first model.. thanks!

thanks for the kind words everybody

alright, so i've changed it up. the rear diff was too plain looking for such a radical and off the wall idea.. so i got the rear diff from one of the skylines i have and converted the rear to have the correct axles and diff. i had filled the hole in the diff with putty, and started sanding it, etc.i lowered it into the frame and now the rear wheels will set better. i also chopped off the transmission cross-member and sanded that area down. i have to fix up the transmission mount to make it look better. here's the latest stance i got: i also gotta finish sanding and re-painting the frame, more than likely a brush job. lemme know if this is better

alright alriiiiiiiight i'll figure something out... as far as there being a bed cover - it actually lifts up and reveals the peep hole to check out the rear diff and stuff.. i'll probably notch the transmission brace and try to make it flat with the frame. i need to do that with the top of the transfer case for the interior piece to fit on the frame too. i'm gonna get to working on it now.

maybe el destructo can build the 4-door in a separate work bench thread? i don't understand why building the 4-door is an absolute necessity in a community build that deals with 1960 to 1980 2-door muscle cars i agree with the 442 though. i'd like to see that one built!

congratulations on the child!!

heh, after this one, i can't wait to get my Tamiya kit that includes the motor. i know the fitment will be 10x better, and the over all quality better.
-
i'm not sure if my kit was just defective or not, but i also don't intend to dissuade people from buying a kit that they want to build. I had to remove sections of the body kit to get it to fit the body, as opposed to trimming the body. over all this build wasn't very fun to build at the point of working on the body. everything else was fun though.

I had this 64 SS sitting around for a while. It's the R/M "lowrider" 2 in 1 kit. i can't remember when i did it, but it's been through many moves, and some of the decals started flaking off. Also lost the windshield wipers and hood/trunk hinges. I also didn't have a lot of tools/knowledge at the time of building it. (missing decal heh) enjoy!

This is the Aoshima "FD3S RX-7 by C-West" if you saw anything on my threads with this model, it was a major pain in the neck. nearly every body piece needed reworking, including the 1mm gap between the headlight and fender.. the side mirrors (the actual flat piece that'd resemble the glass) were missing so i used BMF for that and winged it. the chassis wouldn't sit correctly - it'd have all four tires on the ground, but a huge gap between the tire and the top of the wheel well. eh - it's good practice for body work for future models! Please let me know what you think. I will get better day time outdoor pics when i can. It's not perfect, but it's better than i thought it'd turn out! enjoy! (eh, i need to touch up the window trim some time.)
