What dimebolt said: I build glass display cases for my best stuff. I keep a few models on display and store some-then I rotate them for a fresh look. They stay museum-clean and safe from toddlers or pets.
It's somewhat easier for me-I've done professional art framing. But it's not rocket science. My case building methods were featured in the Jan '11 issue of MCM.
Some reservations:
Some things can be too 'techy'-starting the car by just sitting in the driver's seat-'I just wanted my sunglasses!'.
No mention how much it (or any of these types) costs on your home electric bill when you have to charge it for 57 hours. Does that and the huge entry price negate the gas / electric debate?
Matt-your work is superb.
Seeing them together like that is dramatic. To my eye, the 458 looks like a Black & Decker futuristic Dustbuster. The 250 is, of course 'just right' as you put it.
Beautiful builds.
Show us more! The engine area especially.
The vacuum pump and its pulley, the carb linkage, are all beautifully in scale and nicely engineered.
More pictures please!
Excellent idea and job on a great kit. Beautiful finish but nothing George drove remained that way.
Muck, dents and other guys paint everywhere...
Scuff up the next one.
OK Bill-While the lathe is still warm-
How about the same treatment on Eddie 'First-in-the-Fours' Hill's Pennzoil dragster?
He's 76 now and he and the family may be the best reference source as Jerry was here. I brought Jerry here; maybe you can get Eddie.
What say???
X 2. Competition is a self-explanatory category. Also exposes users to other disciplines they may find interesting or they're free to ignore.
And 'Under Glass' should not be segregated-every finished model in one location has the same advantage as stated above.
Less work so you can have less hassle moving wrongly placed stuff.
Jus' sayin'...
