Thanks Rickey! I did a mockup to check the stance and engine placement. I tried the hood with the air cleaner on and the hood is almost closed. I'll trim the underside of the air cleaner for a better fit. I really like the stance with the inverted spindles. More to come...

Masking is not something that I am good at. This afternoon I masked off the Duster so I could apply the secondary color of Light Gunmetal. It came out fairly good, but I have to clean up the edge around the top of the windows. I started working on the front suspension. When I got to the spindles, I noticed the offset on them. Instead of installing them per the instructions, I inverted them to see if I can lower the nose of the Duster. I'll do a mockup later and see what the stance looks like. More to come...

Indy 500 today... does anyone care?
mrmike replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I actually forgot about ALL racing yesterday. I gave up on NASCAR years ago, I lost interest in the Indy 500 several years ago, and I watch F1 if I remember that there is a race to watch. Sometimes I think there is better racing watching my DVDs of Grand Prix or LeMans. But then, that's just me... -
Thanks Shawn, James, and John! John, sometimes it's good to buck tradition! I like how your engine compartment looks with the splash of red (ignition, wires, and battery), silver (engine and radiator), and blue (sheet metal and air cleaner cover). Looks great!

I decided to remove the doors from the body and will try to get them to fit within the door frame better. Having the doors and the internal mounts out allowed me to add the new hinge pin. This is where I'll be focusing my attention...the cutouts for the hinges on the body. I need to deepen the cutouts more so I can get the doors fitted better. More to come...

Thank you Andy! It's been a while since I worked on the A100, so I started with installing the tailgate and the doors. Getting the hinges installed wasn't as bad as I had been lead to believe. Then I went and broke one of the tiny pins on the lower right hinge. I drilled out the hinge and will use a piece of a nail epoxied into the lower hinge. At this point I hate the doors themselves. There are fairly wide gaps by the windshield. I am having second thoughts about building this truck for my Club Challenge, but I am too far along to stop and start another truck. I'll think about my next move on this before progressing. More to come...

Thanks Mike and John! Mike, I'm happy to be an influence on your future project. Good luck on your project and be sure to post it! John, for this build I didn't want the flat black treatment that was so commonly done on the Duster. Since this is a street machine of sorts, the Light Gunmetal secondary color with the Bright Orange primary color really appealed to me. As far as the engine block color and the air cleaner color are concerned, that was my mistake. I painted the engine block and the air cleaner at the same time not thinking about the different shades of orange for each. Since this is a street machine and not factory stock, I think the same shade of orange is OK.

Thanks Bryan! I'm getting excited about the secondary color. It going to look great!

Revell 2012 Fall New Releases Announced

I gotta get the Foose '67 Coronet! -
I polished the body and just as I expected, I rubbed through the paint in a few spots. No big deal since it was just a few light coats of paint...not a wet coat. Another wet coat or two and the body will be golden! A mock up of the rear spoiler. I like it painted in the body color so it doesn't look like a tacked on accessory. The hood painted in Tamiya TS-42 Light Gunmetal. Once the body paint is to my liking, I'll mask it off for the secondary color to be applied to the front fender and door tops and around the side windows. More to come...

How not to drive a Lambo
mrmike replied to martinfan5's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's what happens when you put a high speed car into the hands of someone with a low speed brain! -
Thanks guys! I wish I had time to work on the Duster this weekend, but that really didn't happen. I have spent most of the weekend out of doors taking advantage of the nice weather to get yard work and other household things done. I spent about 20 minutes Saturday night rubbing out the body and applying the 6 Pack decal to the air cleaner. After that, I went to bed so I could be fresh for all I had on my plate for Mothers Day and taking the dog to the dog park for 2 hours in the morning. I even printed up a card for the dog to give to my wife! It said "Happy Mothers Day" with a picture of the dog lying on her back and "Can I Have A Belly Rub?" on the bottom of the card. Really cute and my wife loved it! Monday starts a new week and hopefully more time for the Duster. We shall see...

GETTING STARTED (Revell Style)

When I saw this topic, I immediately thought of that commercial from who-knows-when. It would be interesting to see if other model manufacturers had made any TV ads. -
GETTING STARTED (Revell Style)
mrmike replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Revell had a commercial showing a Corvette in a parking garage. The car in the background starts up and backs out of its parking spot and into clear view showing the scale aspect of the model versus the real car. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xs2mq_revell-model-cars-ad-corvette-sting_shortfilms -
The engine is complete except for decals. The wheel centers have been painted and lug nuts detailed with chrome silver paint. More to come...

Even though I don't have a build currently on here, I do stop in and look around and I like what I am seeing. The "Old Crow" looks fantastic! Jon, your Mustang is looking good as well as Niko's build.
-
Thank you gents! I do think that the wheel centers painted with the secondary color of Light Gunmetal will look great! I haven't had much time available to work on the Duster. So far, I have half the engine wired, the coil has a wire but needs to be painted.
-
Charlie, the plug boots are from a piece of wire that I had hanging around in the shop. I stripped a piece of the insulation off just to see if it would go over the plugs wires that I used and they fit! I'm sorry to hear that you will be unable to attend this years CMPC Show. I do hope to see you at one of our meetings before long. this car's owner does prefer Accel wires on this car! Thanks Darrick! It's getting there! This afternoon I painted the wheels with Testors gloss black, waited about 15 minutes and then sprayed Alclad II chrome paint with my airbrush. I think they came out great! I am thinking about painting the wheel centers with my secondary color Tamiya TS-42 Light Gunmetal. Since the booth was up and running, I also painted the body with Tamiya TS-31 Bright Orange. The hood didn't fare as well with a lot of dust particles in the paint. It is now residing at the bottom of the purple pond. I'll clean it up and repaint it. I also painted the floor pan and the front sub-frame. More to come...

OK Charlie, see you in September. Hey, that could be used in a song! Oh, never mind...it already was used in a song by the Four Seasons...and yes, my age is showing!!! I haven't wired an engine in a while so this was an opportunity to do so. I drilled out the distributor and added the wires from Precision Model Works cut into lengths from 1 1/2 to 2 inches long and glued them into the cap. I fanned out the wires and added my plug boots. I glued the distributor to the intake manifold with the wires crossed over the cap. Since I am not using the A/C unit for this build, I searched the parts box for a single belt fan belt an pulley assembly. I also found a alternator with a mounting bracket so the alternator won't be left hanging in the air. More to come...

Thanks guys! Ah shucks Charlie! Such high praise. Thanks. The engine is not painted with Bright Orange, it is painted with actual Mopar Hemi Orange Engine Paint. I like using this paint on my Mopar motors when it is called for. I also have a can of Mopar Chrysler Turquoise Engine Paint for certain Mopar projects.

I did a quicky mockup to help get an idea of how the Duster is going to look. I also checked the body for flaws and found a few...nothing major. Another coat of primer, a quick and light sanding and it'll be ready for it's tu-tone paint scheme. I fitted the carbs onto the manifold and painted it all with Aluminium Metalizer. I'll start detailing the carbs later with paint and maybe fuel lines. I dredged the wheels out of the purple pond after a couple days of soaking. A good washing with some Dawn detergent and hot water and the wheels are ready for some gloss black and Alclad paints. More to come...

The one model you are most proud of.
mrmike replied to Romell R's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If anyone recognizes the man in my avatar, they would know that it is the late actor Robert Urich in one of his greatest roles, as the late author Robert B. Parker's Spenser of Spenser For Hire. I spent a lot of time researching Spenser's '65 Mustang, especially since there is very little known about the car so my model is based on the first season version which happens to be my favorite. I used the Revell '66 Mustang 2+2 for my build which is painted with MCW Ivy Green Metallic lacquer. This is my favorite model.
