  1. I was going to use mine to support the hobby too but....at the rate bad things are going on now and those ridiculous gas prices..i'am having 2nd thoughts and decided to stash it in the piggy bank! We live in some scary times today and someone is always saying something about someone going out of business or ( insert name) stops production blab, blab...none of this helps at all and I keep seeing signs of not so good things to come.... To those helping others, Cheers! ~ Jeff
  2. I see nothing wrong with it....like you said, its for when you retire right? It gives you something to do and model cars is something you love...just don't expect a million visitors and some days, nobody will show up and other days, your busy as bee! I know of people that have such a similar setup..one collects old farm tractors, another one has old car parts & cars...none of them are in it for money at all..they just enjoy sharing their experiences and talking about it to others...even school groups check it out and they enjoy telling & showing the younger kids what its all about. These cool guys have the time to do this and spend long enjoyable hours building it piece by piece often with friends that share the same interests as they do. Its a great place to hang out and lots of valueable infor is passed around too. Theres always something cool going on! I see where your going with your idea and its a cool one too! I have been building models for over 42 years and have a huge collection of kits, parts, tools magazines..it would be great to share it with others as I feel building model cars & trucks is a dying art. I also am into HO trains, diecast vehicles, military vehicles, '60s GI Joes so, I understand what you mean! Your not going to go out of business on this one cause its all yours and your investment and the good it will do sure will overcome any bad! As you mention, its something to get you out the house and it also keeps you young too! I think its great and really wish you the best in it..hope you do decide to go for it and keep us updated too! Good luck! ~ Jeff
  3. Fantastic looking Dart! Great use of the engine too. There is always more than a 'few' of any kind of special engine produced by the big 3 and I believe well over 100 of the DOHC engines were around at the time and lots of them 'expired' under hard treatment & testing and others simply just 'disappeared'...One well known Chevy racer got his hands on a couple even tho he was a diehard Chevy man and he even had special Ford engines hidden away in the back of his shop and after his death, an auction held at his shop was with quite a few surprises of complete engines & super rare parts and of course with no doubts, a few ended up with several drag racers & stashed away in Chrysler Nascar shops in case the DOHC would make a comeback or someone could build an even better Hemi using the parts as if that was possible! ~ Jeff
  4. It is cool that AMT chose that engine to be included in the hemi power model kits in the '90s and it sure did cause plenty of confusion since many people never actually saw one before! I have a bunch of them myself and was & still amazed at the detail level. Its also found in the Roadrunner kits. The big 3 all had "top secret" engines for the Nascar wars and the DOHC Hemi engines were believed to produce well over 800 HP ( at that time 400-500 HP was the normal) and Chrysler kept hiding the actually power numbers from Nascar..then Ford came out with a similar engine and finally even Chevy jumped into the fray...Nascar became alarmed at the powerful engines and the cars ( chassis) themselves were not capable of handling all that power including the tires. Smokey got to work on the Chevelle and came out with the first 'stock car' that could handle the power but Nascar put a quick end to that idea for obvious reasons. Nascar finally told everybody to go back to the basic engines and allowed the regular Hemi, BB Chevy and Ford 427-9 engines without special parts. Chrysler kept working on secret engines for the drag strips afterwards, street test cars like the famous '67 Coronet Silver Bullet and lots of winning was made in S/S classes...makes ya wonder eh? Theres lots of great reading on this subject and part of this is what made Nascar so great in the good ol' days and today, its all boring and same, same stuff...Lots of cool history and darn good reading to be had! ~ Jeff
  5. I always have extra kits in plastic zip-lock bags and use the empty boxes for them and make a small ID mark on the box end of whats in it. I use the rare kit boxes for display in the model room and after years of collecting & building them, I got one good looking wall full of empty old AMT kit boxes! ~ Jeff
  6. Thats got to be a rare one for sure! First time I ever saw this one and I have seen all ( thought I did!) the AMT truck kits. Kinda reminds me of a certain Tonka truck I use to play with in the mid '60s. Must of be back in the day when toy & plastic kit companies didn't want to use certain brand names cause of legal problems or ?? and they used something that comes close to looking like several brands depending on how you look at it? Does remind me of a Ford C-600, Dodge L-700 and a GMC truck. Really cool and thanks for sharing it with us. ~ Jeff
  7. Thanks Gramps!! Thats some really KOOL stuff in there! Had to add that to my favorites cause it will take a long time to dig into all that but well worth it! ~ Jeff
  8. I'am not too skilled in the 'fine ways' of being a politic nor do I wish to lower myself to their levels but I do know our government can do a whole lot better than this and finding someone thats not interest in power & money along with a few other 'perks' seems to be the answer..question is, is such a animal with a spine still around??...or am I being too native here... I reckons most folks are living just a wee bit too comfortable to concern themselves with the price of fuel...we'll see how they act when it reaches 10 bucks a gallon. Well,...we can always go back to makin 'shine. ~ Jeff
  9. Geezz!...that really gets my goat! A Big block Chevelle getting 7mpg would have a field day tearing up those roads!..oh wait, do they even have roads?? I almost can't wait to become a 3rd world country! Then that way we can get 'free' stuff from other countries... Hey, I got an idea, we have the worlds greatest military machine do we not? I say we root out that cheese head in Venezuela..... ~ Jeff
  10. Its interesting to note that gas sells for .64 cents a gallon in Saudi Arabia today and we save their butts everytime something goes wrong over there?? Wheres the love eh? Whats more scary to me is what happens at the breaking point? High food prices, lack of decent health care ( read, money), fuel, bad weather on & on....Hope I got enough paint, glue and Pork'n' Beans to build models when all hell breaks out & chaos rules the day! Will model kits of the future be wagons with two-tone color mules with interchangable hats?.. ~ Jeff
  11. With the way people drive these days yaking on the cell phones & do whatever other crazy things some drivers do beside actually driving the car, theres no way I will switch to using a smaller vehicle! You would have to be crazy to drive some itty bitty POS made out of recycle Coke cans and some fool in a huge Caddy with clown wheels watching a movie runs into you! If I can't afford to drive, then I will just got get a dang mule & wagon! LOL..At the rate things are going downhill in this country, wouldn't surprise me one bit if we ended up back where we started, being a caveman!...and I believe I could get used to that if the cave has a AC & fridge in it! ~ Jeff
  12. Gas here is now 3.68 a gallon and diesel is 4.06. This corn oil is what started the whole dang thing in the first place! Oil is no more expensive to produce than it was 20 years ago and new technology actually allows the oil companies to drill & produce & refine oil far cheaper than 30 years ago! The use of E85 is a joke...whats more important to us, use it as food or use it as fuel? The price of food has gone up much higher than fuel..you need corn to feed livestock, make food products, feed milking cows and yet, here we are using it for fuel?? What in the hell happen to common sense?? E85 does nasty work on engines not design to use it and I have seen the results of that work with dryed out oil seals & burn valves and thats not even mentioning the damage to computers. I don't believe in government control in our way of life but theres some things that do need to be watched like health care, fuel, food, medicines..in other words, all the basic necessary things that people need & depended on to survive. ~ Jeff
  13. I have seen him in the SA forum a few times but not since the 'new' system started...I will keep an eye out for him & let you know ok? If theres one thing I don't like, is dishonest people...IF thats what he is up to. I keep a long list of such folks! Keep in mind tho, honest mistakes do happen very often! Sorry your having problems at the 'other' site and theres a long line behind you too! ~ Jeff
  14. I did try that but even that feature is not working yet....I get in the forum just fine now but many features are not working yet and other members have problems I don't have and I have problems they don't have...most got in with their old password and others have mention, keep trying & it will finally let you in at some point in time. The whole thing is a mess and many of the problems were not expected and the word is, in due time, everything will be working great. The best I can say is, keep trying and maybe wait a few days or weeks or before checking it out again. ~ Jeff
  15. Well, its not a pretty sight for sure! I had to use a new password just to get back in...and theres still tons of stuff not working but that is to be expected I reckons when using stupid computers...or is that computer users? All this changing in todays world ( I'am old school) is ridiculous and its got to be some kind of conspiracy by the youngster$ to mess up us old dogs! Hopefully the changes in the SA forum will be worth it and things take time. Harry, I hear ya loud, you have been complaining all over the SA forum! ~ Jeff
  16. Iam surprised the prices are not higher! In hobby shops, the prices are closer to the 20 dollar mark and with no Wally Worlds selling model kits anymore, its even higher. Someone did some 'planning' in this... ModelRoundup has great prices and hopefully stay that way. In the future, companies like Revell had better start including more extras in the kits otherwise, nobody will pay 20 bucks for a old reissue kit anymore. Revell has done a great job with the latest kits like the '55 Chevy, '58 Impala, '70 Mustang, Motion Chevelle( half of this kit is all new tooling!) and paying more seems worth it so far but how far will this go? Theres talk of gas going up to 7-8 bucks by winter time..... ~ Jeff
  17. As a long time member of the SA forum, I had to use a new password to get it! The 'new' SA forum has plenty of bugs to work out and several others reported the same problems and many others...I reckons it will take time to fix it all but it does look good so far. Email me if you need the email address to the forum ok? ~ Jeff
  18. COOL link! I love them pics! Thanks for sharing it. 8) Jello
