Lets not forget that the 100 year old electric car weighed about an 12% what the volt does, has no electric accesories such as radio, power windows, power locks and gps, it has no headlights tailights or anything but the engine to power. I bet if you were to drop the Volt's drivetrain into the 100 year old car, you would go a lot further than 40 miles.

My first order of business was twofold. Quit Job, test "Death- Ray" By testing it on my boss I got a two-fer! Death Ray Operational, next evil invention, the anti-grav collar. Several experiments later I found success! Since human beings will often turn states evidence, I've chosen some more loyal minions. here they are in their morning yoga class. What I want is One billion dollars and two of every new release model car kit. if my demands aren't met by Kick off time I will use my abilities to hack the TV satalites and replace the Superbowl broadcast with my own programming...

I read about that experiment. It is far from disproving einstien's theory. The margin of error in the manner in which they measured the speed was too high to be called accurate, and the result has yet to be duplicated.

Top five: 1. I like models. 2. I have a lot of friends in this hobby and I love seeing them again. 3. Swap meet. I like that I can pick up stuff that is unusual. 4. The playboy playmates signing calenders. (OK this was only at the Syracuse Motorama, when I was a kid, and technically it wasn't in the model contest room, but still...) 5. gives me a happy reason to take a road trip.

Unfortunateley the fix is not a simple as a pill. And there is no reason to be embarresed by how you are. We all have different strengths and abilities. I was born Dyslexic, dysgraphic, and with Asperger syndrome. The combinatition of the three lead my elementary school to assume I was retarded. I was basicly unable to read or write with any level of comprehension, and my social skills were lacking. I didn't really talk to anybody outside of my family for years unless they first initiated the conversation, and even then it made me very uncomfortable. It took years of intensive training all the way until I graduated High School to overcome this, but I did. with the exception of some OCD, and some social awkwardness, no one can tell that I was born any different from them. There are many very successful people who are dyslexic http://www.dyslexia.com/famous.htm This doesn't have to be something that holds you back.

Funny you should mention that. That is what I'm doing with this build... -

I have heat in my garage for the winter, and where I am in the mountains it is very mild in the summer. I open the windows and screen door and it gives me a nice cross breeze all the time. The hottest I've recorded in my garage is 75 degrees. -

Here are some shots of mine... the drawers underneath store all my airbrush paint, and the pegboard accomidates a lot of supplies and detail parts. Across the room is where I take photos, wash up, and have more storage for books and other misc stuff... In the back is where I do research on the web, any computer work, and post on the boards. I often will do some of my sanding or tedious work here. -
Your Dream Garage
Darin Bastedo replied to Patrick2005's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dream Garage post #3 Since my dream garage assumes nearly unlimited funds, it would include... Count Rossi's Street Legal Porshe 917... The Michelotti 1963 Jaguar lemans, a one off special built on a lemans winning D-type chassis. While I'm aquiring One off jags, I'll scoop up the XK180 Concept roadster too... While I'm in a concept car mood, I'll have to get an AMC AMX-3 And because it's my wife's favorite car I'll also need a 1965 Aston Martin DB5 -
Your Dream Garage
Darin Bastedo replied to Patrick2005's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My Dream Garage part two... It would have to include my dream car for family trips...a Tatra T-87 I would need a Front Engine Dragster for nostagia drag events...the 1964 Tognotti Speed Shop Top Fuel Dragster would do just fine... I would love to show up to our friday night cruise in this...Jerry pennington's "Scorpion" rear engined 'Vette The original is long gone so I would have to settle for the clone of The Sam Hollingsworth Nomad... Next time GM is hard up for cash, I'd offer them big money for the Stingray racer... To be continued... -

Your Dream Garage
Darin Bastedo replied to Patrick2005's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My Dream garage would depend on the size of the bankroll, so let's assume I filthy stinkin' rich, like Richard Branson rich... I'd have to have a Siata 208 S... A 289 Cobra, CSX2521 to be specific... A 427 Cobra preferably CSX3111... Gotta have a Lamborghini Muira... A ferrari Lusso would be nice too. to be continued... -
My wifes Birthday present (well one of them)
Darin Bastedo replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in Model Cars
This is a curbside, but if I were to build this in real life, I would go with a 305hp V6 and 6 speed out of a 2011 Mustang. It would be quick but get good gas milage for long trips. -
"Holy Grail" Models?
Darin Bastedo replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I guess this is as close as I get to a holy grail these days. It's by renwal, and it is the only Cobra variant I don't have yet. Cobra? yes this car was built on a cobra chassis, CSX2451 Designed by Virgil Exner. It's hard to find this kit for a price I'm willing to pay. -
This one isn't mine, but I saw it years ago and saved the pic for inspiration.

Last Year I built her a model of a ford falcon, like her dad's but hot rodded... Well that went over so well that I did another model, though this year it's considerably simpler. She is a huge Snoopy collector. we have shelves of Snoopy collectables in our upstairs living room. I saw this on Ebay and had to build one for her. I hope she likes it.

Quite a while ago I threw together this image and it turned out so well I decided I had to do it in scale. So I started Cutting and glueing and scratch built a new roof for the roadster. I always thought the front end bore a passing resemblance to the original Dytona Coupe i figured adding a roof would complete the transformation. The plan is to paint it in guardsman blue with white stripes.

How Much Do You Have Invested ?
Darin Bastedo replied to XJ6's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have a buddy, who used to give me a hard time. He'd say, why do you spend all that money just for a model car. you can buy one already assembled for $20. But then I asked him... How much did that bass boat cost you? 45k? then the trailer, truck, bait, tackle sonar etc, he has at least 100K in his bass fishing. and fish costs how much at the grocery store? I am now forbidden to discuss his hobby with his wife...lol -
How Much Do You Have Invested ?
Darin Bastedo replied to XJ6's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know for a fact I'm not even close to the #1 spot. Over the years I've gotten to visit, or see pictures of the stashes and hobby rooms of other modelers both on and off these forums, and I'm not even close to their level. One guy I visited last winter if I had to hazzard a guess, just off the top of my head I would value his collection at 100K or more. There is one guy i saw on here or another forum that built a whole separate building in his back yard just for model building. There are a couple of local builders who have twice what I have easy, and probably paid a lot more for it too. If it hadn't been for being in the business and being able to get the stuff on the cheap, I would never have been able to amass what I have. Here is a pic and a link to pictures of my hobby room. http://public.fotki.com/ashevillemodeler/model_car_stuff/the-new-hobby-room/ -

How Much Do You Have Invested ?
Darin Bastedo replied to XJ6's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't even know where to strat my calculations. Much of the collection of kits I have are either ones I bought buying out collections, when I was a swap meet dealer, or were bought with the proceeds of the sale of models, so in the models stash I'm pretty sure I'm in the plus. tools, and supplies I have with a few exceptions were purchased during that time also so i'm not really sure, but I do know I was pulling in about 60K a year when I was doing that, and from what I saw in my books for those years I averaged about 30K in expenses including aquirening models gas, table fees door prize donations and hotels. What I currently have in my hobby room is probably worth about 75K retail, and most of it I bought at half price or less, so maybe I have 35K invested in what I currently have.
