  1. The models being allowed in late has no effect on the judging. I doubt that they had judged every model on the table yet so why not let him enter. If anything in this economy I'm sure the added entry fees were more than worth the slight inconveniance of the models being late. Besides would you like to be the one to tell a fellow modeler that he isn't allowed to compete due to an arbitrary deadline? Perhaps they were more worried about losing a modeler for their next contest.
  2. I had just gotten off of third shift at Kinkos, and headed over to a small diner across the street for breakfast. As usual they had CNN on the TV with the sound turned down low. All of a sudden I saw the image of the WTC on fire. Knowing people in that building I asked the waitress to turn it up. They were saying a "small plane" had hit the world trade center, but having been in the building many times I knew the sheer size of the building and could tell from the size of the hole it wasn't a smal plane. I told the guy sitting next to me that it had to have been a Jumbo Jet, to which he responded, "How could a Jumbo Jet hit the WTC on a clear day and so far outside their flight path?" I said I didn't know but I knew the hole in the tower was way bigger than a small craft could make. We sat and watched and it wasn't long before the second plane hit, and we knew it was no accident. I finished my meal and went back to work to let my co-workers know what was happening, and then went home to watch the events unfold. I never expected the towers to collapse or to see the people jumping to their deaths. I lost several close friends that day, while others were spared. The following days were filled with a combination of horror, dread and relief as it was sorted out who survived and who didn't My 16 year old daughter doesn't fully comprehend the events of that day, and in a way I'm glad. My hope is that she never has to feel that way ever. Never Forget? I would like to be able to, but I never will. I wish that even ten years later, those same feeling didn't come back just as vividly as they did that morning. I had hoped that the killing of Osama Bin Ladin would have eased the pain and given some closure, but he was just a man. The ideologies and climate, that allowed someone to believe that an act like this is justified are still out there. I pray that someday we, The human race, can rise above the use of violence and avoid incidents like 9/11 in the future. will it happen? no probably not. but Hope is what keeps us going in times like this.
  3. When I went out to Glen Burnie to do the photos for the article I was just amazed at all I saw. It was hard to decide what to photograph and what to leave out. He makes so many cool parts and bodies it was like being a kid in a candy store,
  4. When I go to a contest I couldn't care less how the judging is conducted, or who wins, though if it is a friend of mine he will recieve a well deserved pat on the back. If I win it's almost anti-climatic. On most of my models I spend any where from a couple of months to a few years of spare time working on them. A two dollar trophy is not going to make a bit of difference in my enjoyment of the hobby. That said I love going to and entering contests. I have met some really great guys who have taught me many new techniques and have made some lasting friendships. I love shopping and horse trading with the vendors, and often get some good deals on kits I want and am exposed to aftermarket accesories I didn't know about. Yeah, I've been to some poorly judged contests in the past the most recent I know was poorly judged because my second place model by most standards shouldn't have even placed given the competition I was up against. But from what I saw all had a good time and there were no sour grapes. I go for the fun of it, not the end result.
  5. I love to fly...It's plummeting that I hate. In a car when things start to go wrong I'm already on the ground.
  6. I guess it depends on your difinition of "working". Model a Yugo engine and it doesn't even have to turn over to be accurate.
  7. My motor treand subscriber copy gets to me about a week after it shows up on the news stand If Motor tread can't get to me first what makes anybody think that it will happen with Model Cars? Geez!
  8. 1950's cars I would like to see kitted in plastic are... 1950 Nash ambassador 1955 - 56 Pontiac Safari / Coupe 1950 - 59 Buick 1950 - 59 Oldsmobile Well actually any 50's Car that isn't a chevy or ford
  9. Yeah you are, but I imagine the great skiing, cheese and chocolate make up for it.
  10. Here are the test shot photos. looks pretty good to me...
  11. I hope there is still time to Fix this, but the exhaust routing is completely wrong for a 427 Street Cobra. The exhaust should be routed up and over the rear suspension , not under it.
  12. http://www.timesnews.net/article/9035495/kingsport-business-sustains-heavy-damage-during-storm
  13. I want to do my 53 Hudson as a mild kustom, lake opipes caddy engine, frenched headlights etc. But I'm stuck on wheels I have some caddy sombreros, but am worried they might be a little cliche'. Is there any wheel covers available in scale that you guys think would look cool, bit would be a little different?
  14. Really nice and from what I've seen fills a huge gap in the aftermarket too.
  15. Just to be clear, Mine wasn't a freebee. I had something that Dave Metzner wanted, so we made a swap, It's great though, this model is so nice I'll probably buy several.
  16. I got mine today too. I said in the earlier threads about the Hudson that I would reserve my opinion until I had the kit in my hot little hads, but now that I do all I can say is Wow! Homerun. This is a great kit, especially for their first automotive subject. AMT and Revell watch out, the rookie is really knocking it out of the park!
  17. EPA numbers are usually lower than real world numbers. My Hyundai elantra is rated 40mpg Highway, and I regularly get 45-48 MPG.
  18. In Model cars magazine a few issues ago they did a review of the stuff and it seems it's a really fragile finish that comes off with skin oil, and cannot be overcoated. I'll stick to alclad
  19. Well we are on the "world wide web" so technically here is everywhere.
  20. Nope, that is a factory stock Boss 302 I've personally been underneath aone and that is what it looks like
  21. Here are all the cobra pics I have uploaded, though I have a few hundred more I need to upload as time allows. http://public.fotki.com/ashevillemodeler/reference_photos/cobras/ BTW I finally got settled in here and was able to send out the Gas Cap you needed.
  22. It's only apples and oranges if scale is something that matters to you. What you have here is two different model cars, with similar price points. If I had to chose between the two I would chose the one that most faithfully captures the look of the prototype. If there were a third option like the 1/25 scale revell GT500 I would chose that as it offers similar levels of accuracy and I don't have to fingd the room to display a 1/12 size kit.
  23. The comparison is relevent because they will be on the same isle of the hobby shop and the consumer will be making a chioce on how to best spend his money.
