To me Fit, finish and stance is what makes a car look "real" to me. While i still attempt to avoid glaring accuracy issues, (like rusty fenders on a corvette) I usually go for close enough, knowing that 90% or more of the people looking at my models, usually have no clue which car it is much less whether it is accurate. even at contests the judges and the participants rarely have a clue. The model below is a good example, It won second place in a local model show, but it has several glaring inaccuracies. the door handles, I completely forgot to install, the engine compartment is not accurately detail painted, and the carefully scratch-built side pipe covers, the ones I worked so hard to replicate open slots, are wrong. the slots on these are supposed to be painted on not open. As nice looking as it is, it should never have won an award against the other models on the table.

I wouldn't say that my hobby But the hobby has. I never really turned a profit even on models I built and sold, or any I built on commission. But I used to buy and sell models at swap meets, and still do sometimes to thin out the stash. But back in the day I made quite a bit of money doing that, and I doubt over the years I've spent as much on the hobby as I made. So I guess you could say I've profited. But the two were always separate. My buying and selling was a business, and building was my hobby. the business paid for my hobby.

Darin Bastedo replied to TheCat's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You guys should cut Revell some slack. Due to a typo on an internal memo, we almost got Fosse Designed kits. -

Is it too late?
Darin Bastedo replied to Hedgehog's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've been building for nearly 40 years and there are 18 year olds who can out build me. The best advice I can give you is this; 1. Patience pays off. Take your time to do things right. 2. If you mess up don't sweat it, correct it, if it cannot be corrected, move on and learn from it. 3. The proper tools will always make things easier. Until you have all the tools you want/need, spend half your model budget on models, half on tools. -
How does Tamiya do it so quick?
Darin Bastedo replied to Jon Cole's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Let's not forget that model kits are not their only revenue stream. Round 2 and Revell, both only do model kits, where Tamiya also is a major player in the very profitable R/C market. Keeping in mind many automotive kit subject by them are mirrored in their R/C line-up the licence fees and negotiations are probably done under one blanket licence. That said tooling up a new kit, is probably a far smaller risk to a company of their size compared to Revell and Round 2 -

We are carbon based life forms. If you burn sugar you are left with carbon, Caffeine gives you energy, the energy helps your body burn the sugar, therefore hot cups of coffee loaded with sugar will be able to keep you alive indefinitely.

I want to be a Mod! I love the music, and the style, but make my Scooter a Lambretta, Vespas are so over done. -
I would try to trade it as there are many who are looking for that particular kit. I'm willing to bet Tom Carter over at spotlight hobbies would be willing to trade you a white plastic kit for yours.
