  1. Lost my dad back in 92...hurt like hell. I always keep him close to my heart and time does help to lessen that pain. Prayers to you and your family Casey.
  2. The EPA would have him in jail and fined up to his neck if that were done nowadays LOL.
  3. That is a really nice color. Looks good dude.
  4. It's all Duplicolor. The red is the Metalcast, over a silver base #T191 and I also used the Clear Effex over the silver to give it more sparkle. Primer was white.
  5. This is my first car project after getting back into model building. The progress so far....flocked and detailed the interior as best I could. Engine detail done. The distributor is from MAD. I painted the headers silver and then dry brushed some dark grey and then white at the exhaust ports to simulate heat discoloration. I didn't do any fuel lines yet..I'm contemplating if I really want to get that far into it lol. Overall view of the interior thus far... Candy went on this morning. Had a little orange peel as the temps weren't warm enough yet to get a smooth lay down of the paint. I don't have a spray booth or a dedicated work area so I have to spray outside. The pictures really don't do it justice but it looks "deep". I had one small fish eye show up but the body stripe will cover it up. Any comments or feedback are welcome....don't worry I'm not sensitive LOL. Thanks for looking!
  6. Correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to remember Chevy had a model of the Luv called a Makko?
  7. I have a BUNCH of crash pics. Here's my favorite. The driver came around a turn to find traffic stopped and rear ended a truck, she was then reaended by another vehicle rupturing the gas tank and starting a fire. She had a propane tank in the rear that exploded and ripped the car open like a sardine can. No one was hurt in this accident.

    '59 Caddy!!!!

Wow that should be posted under Real or Model. Nice job.,,,real nice job.
  9. I'm sure some of you guys already do this but just thought I'd share. I wanted more detail and realisim to the engine so instead of just gluing it together and painting the whole thing I painted the individual parts seprately. Then I put a little black paint along the mating surfaces and let a little glue squeeze out to replicate gasket material. One question here...the headers and the trans are the same color...how do I weather or drybrush (etc)to make the colors look different and a bit more real? Also how the heck do you guys drill the tiny little holes in the dist cap for the wires?
  10. I have an older corded 410 with the variable speed, 5000 - 30000 rpm. I also have the flex shaft and the drill press attachments. I bought it new about 18 years ago and it still works great. In my opinion the money was well spent. The cordless ones are cool but with the flex shaft I don't really need cordless and besides it's not like I build models out in the middle of the yard...I do it in the house where's there's electrical outlets lol.
  11. Model all the way.
  12. All great stuff guys thanks! I'm not going for show quality but I am trying to build a really nice car. Body is prepped for painting but I need a stand of some sort to hang onto it while I paint. Engine is almost together but I need some Chev orange to paint it....so it looks like a trip down to the Hobby store. ######.
  13. When you want a textured surface you drop the pressure in the gun to kinda "spit" the paint out, since the hood came out good I'd say you're right about the pressure dropping. The canned air will drop pressure during heavy use due to the can freezing. Plopping it in warm water is a good idea.
  14. ......and that was kinda my thought too but I see others on here trial fitting stuff before they do that.
  15. Ok I'm done with my P-40 and am now starting on my 69 Nova. I have removed the body and the hood and sanded both parts but before I start painting I have noticed you guys have a sequence in which you build the model. I was wondering if ya'll could share that with me. Thanks!
  16. Looks good....can't go wrong with a Porsche!
  17. I have the Aztek also...just got it. So far it's easy to use and not as bad as some of the reviews I've been reading. It's also very easy to clean.
  18. Lulubelle, Greg Boyington's Corsair in the Pacific theater during WWII. That was the first plane I ever built. I also used to live in Palmdale, Ca and met quite a few test pilots. One of them a famous retired Corsair pilot who's name escapes me right now but it was great talking to him about the plane. He told me how impossible it was to see the deck of the aircraft carrier during take off and landings due to the wing design and the width of the fuselage..that you would just pray you were on target. He did a lot of praying. Then and during testing of the Bell X-1. (and no it wasn't Yeager although I did meet him).
  19. I bought the A470 and so far it's working pretty good...I'm just figuring out what tips do what and trying to control the paint flow. I'm starting to get the hang of it.
  20. Got my Testors mini compressor on Friday and tried it out last night on the Aztek I bought last week. First go around was fun....I finally found the thinning ratio that works lol. Not a stellar example here with this P-40 but thats what I bought it for was to praactice on. I'm sure my skills will improve with more use. I like the Aztek I just wish Testors had a manual PDF on their site. The compressor produces enough air and pressure to run the brush with no problem. The only draw back on the compressor is it doesn't shut off. I'll think about upgrading as my skills progress but it works well for now. If I ever get my garage built I have a large compressor that will work great, it's just too big and heavy to lug into the house.
  21. Ok I'm gonna say the first one is real and the second one is real too.....even though it looks like a model.
  22. I am in awe at the abilities of the folks here. That is one cool model Mr. Cranky. My suggestion for the windshield would be to have the window moulding hanging loose with some broken glass still clingin to the edges?
  23. I like the Shaun the Sheep - Land Rover. That's from the Wallace and Grommett dude. Funny stuff. Went to a real hobby store today and restored a few supplies and also picked up a Tamiya 66 Bug. I had a 64 that was a pan up restoration...lost it to my ex and she sold it. Oh well, this one will be a fun build.
  24. That hill is just beggin for an inner tube run!
