Glenn... Thank you. Hopefully I will have the breathers fabricated in a few days. I can't wait to get color onto the body but I need to get all of the body work done and get the body into primer. That's the goal for the body but I want to get more of the engine done first, Mike... Thank you. You know I had to fix that...lol plus I didn't have a clue that when I died the tins that it would be so far off. I am so glad I had test fit everything again before I painted the tins. I will have to show pics of the tins of how much I removed and the holes I need to relocate for the rivets now. Brad... Thank you isn't that the truth about something always come up in our builds and that determination factor helps push us as modelers to correct things. I have to be honest I can't wait to get the breathers finished then I can finish up the body work on the valve covers and then on to the body work of the blower. I am getting that urge to break out the air brush and lay some paint down. Danno..... Thank you. I am getting there little by little.... I need to have it done for the desert scale classic next year....lol. Hoping for real this time... Hahah but it will be worth all of the extra time I have out into this fixing things. -
1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018

Here is the very front of the car now: I took a couple of hours to model the valve cover and valve cover breather in Solidworks. Now I didn't model the valve cover 100%. I took the Mark Johnson Resin valve covers and measured it and reversed engineered the valve cover. I need to be able to get the size correct. So I could design the valve cover breather to fit the valve cover right. I will be scratch building the valve cover breather and wanted to figure out the design first before I started it. I will print of the views and use the drawing for the templates to make these: Here is another view of the breather/blow off plate: Here are a couple shots of the engine I was using as reference for the breathers: -

Here is some measurements I took to show that it was off: Here it is again with pressure that I applied and where it should sit: SO this is after I took the time to sand and fit check for a while until I got it to sit correct. I sanded the tin work in place so that I got it correct and am happy with the fix: Here is a new shot of the body sitting on the chassis without me pressing down on the body: Another measurement showing that the front of the body was sitting a 3/16" off the ground which is equivalent to 3" in 1:1: -

ok Fellas.... Been working on this today and had a few little set backs, not really a set back but I found another issue with the Body tins that I was working with. I had noticed that once I put the tins in place and bolted it in that I was having an issue with the body sitting correct on the chassis. I believe that the cause was from the fix I did when I broke the tin and how I re-glued it. I found that the portion of the tin that sat on the mid plate was the spot I could fix this problem. I had to sand it down to get things to fit right and after sanding it down I think I may have to redo the holes in that spot of the tins for the rivets. Anyway I will be showing you a whole bunch of pics of this from what the body sitting on the chassis before fixing and what it looks like after fixing. I apologize in advance for the bunch of pics I will be showing you. Here is the start of what the body looked like sitting on the chassis with the tin installed: Here is the front wheel well and rim, prior to the tin work fix the wheel well sat down to the rim. You can see that there is some distance between the wheel well and the top of the rim... maybe 1/16" or more??: Here I applied pressure with my finger to get the body to sit down on the front body mounts and the body was pivoting on the mid plate of the engine: Here is the view of the opposite side, same scenario with no pressure there was a major difference with the distance from the wheel well to the top of the rim: Again I pressed the body down to sit it to the body mounts and the gap looks right now: -

Mark.... Thank you very much. Johnny.... Lmao ... Am thinking I am nuts for chasing these small little details. I think I am the I sane little brother now . Hut oh hope you didn't make too big of a mess in your shorts lol. Ray... Thank you for asking about my dog. He has been doing much better with the meds. I hink he did so ething that made one of the areas of the arthritus flare up and caused things. he seems to be like normal now ...lol I have a few square beds and circular beds that I have gotten from Costco. I will have to look into one of these foams beds. Joe.... Thank you my friend. The sponge worked great. If I remember when I did the oil pan gasket, I ended up doing the black with a paint brush and taping the ends to the part. Not sure if that made sense but not sure how else to explain it...lol and I won't lie I thought of trying to make the gaskets with all of the details. The best way would of been to draw them up and have them made out of photo-etch process. I need to break out my micro marks photo etch set and learn how to use it. Jason.... First off let me say congrats to you and your family Ion The addition to the family with your new baby girl. Your model will be there enjoy those early moments as a new dad. Thank you for the kind words on my build and for following along.it would be cool to some day have so e of the valve train detail in the heads...lol I think it could be doable with the extreme detailed small block Chevy engine from TDR. -

This build us looking great. Nice work so far. -
Tyrone... I absolutely love and admire your work my friend. killer job on this build. I still think you need to do a build in 1/16th scale.... hint hint
-
Wayne.... I am looking forward to the next killer tank that you are gonna do. Fellas... I did a little more "Salting" and got some color on to my little cart. I will say I am happy with how the salting turned out but now I have work to weather and make it look good. Here I added some table and sea salt to the mix before I added my color: I painted this with some tamiya yellow right out of the spray can. I was too lazy to mix paint up and spray from my airbrush...lol, Not sure why but I wanted to make the cart yellow for some reason and I know its probably not the correct color but thought it would look good rusted up: Here is what it looks like after chipping and knocking the salt off:

OK Fellas... I had this done last night but didn't get time to download the pics and have been gone all morning. So here is the process of how I made my valve cover gaskets..... Here is the start of the Valve cover gaskets. 1 - 3x5 card, 1 xacto knife, 1 steel ruler, & the valve covers: I first started by tracing the edge of the valve cover with a pencil onto the 3x5 card: Next I cut them out with my xacto knife. as you see here I did 2 sets, I wasn't happy with the first ones so I cut a 2nd: I next took my pin vise and .020" drill bit and transfer drilled the holes from the valve cover to the gaskets. You can see in this pic that I only had one drilled out: I am a little upset at myself, I guess I forgot to take pics of the next few steps before I painted the gaskets. I finished drilling the 2nd gasket out. I then colored them with a black sharpie. After the black sharpie I brushed on multiple coasts of tan paint. and then the black was added by taking a dish sponge and wetting with flat black and dabbing it out until there wasn't a whole lot of paint on it and I basically dry brushed the gasket creating the black spots to make the gasket look like cork: -

Hello fellas... just wanted to give a quick update and let you guys know that I was able to get a little bench time in last night and started back on the engine. I started scratch building valve cover gaskets and they are just about done. Got the first coat of paint on them and I need to do a tad more but so far i am happy with them. I wasn't able to get picures up last night but will post some of how I made them when I get home tonight. -

Lee... thank you very much in the kind words. I think once the tins are painted and rivets installed it should look prettt good. I will be honest i am curious how the out come will look now...lol As far as how I am going to secure the rivets. I am thibking ibam either going to be using micro scales kryatal kleer (which is a white glue that dries comoletely clear) or some glue called gatoe glue which is an acrylic glue rhat I have used for photo etch parts. I will most likely go woth option #1 because i cam out the white glu in the hole install the rivet and then wipe any excess off with a damp paper towel or remove any glue if necessary. I dont think CA woild gice me enough time plus i would be afraid that the CA would fog the areas around the rivets jist a tad. Aaron... thanks buddy. Its getting there thats for sure. Little slower than I wanted but going to be worth the extra time I have put into it. John... thank Brother. Means alot xoming from you. Joe... thank you. I couldnt be happier with how he fix turned out. You are right that the tin looks kike it was never broke...lol Danno... thank you sir. Jimmy... thank you. My dog is doing good. Just want the meds to kick in and help. But he seemed more like himself this morning but wished he didnt get this artheitis but part of life where we get older. He is my buddy and is a trooper. I truly believe the meds and the glucosimine pills will have him back to normal in no time at all. I have had him since he was 7 weeks old and he is 8-1/2 years old now. -

Here are some shots of the bottom side of the tins from different views: Now I am anxious to get this body tin painted but the weather here has been really humid and hot.... But I am also wanting to repaint my chassis tins which I will be striping and re primering, which my plan would be to spray the same color as the body tin. It makes sense for me to get the chassis tins prepped so that I can spray everything at the same time since I need to mix up the automotive paint that I will be spraying for this. Stay tuned and I will be back on the engine now. my plan is to get back to the valve covers and I have to draw up the breather/blow off vent and then I will be making some valve cover gaskets and finishing the body work on the valve covers. Thank you for following along. -

Hey Everyone.... I just wanted to say thank you for all of the warm wishes for my dog and asking how he is. Took him to the vet earlier this morning and after his Dr. saw him she wanted to do some X-rays. So he had to stay at the vet for a while because they needed to sedate him so they could take the X-rays. I got to pick him up this afternoon and he is doing good. I found out that he has Spinal Arthritis and had some inflammation which was probably causing the pain he was in yesterday. So He was sent home with some pain meds and some meds for the imflammation. My boy will be 9 this year and just like us dogs get old and he will be on some meds to keep the inflammation down. He is a trooper and doing good. anyway back to the build. I apologize for rambling on about my dog. Here are some pics I have been meaning to post for the past few days. I am at the point where I feel I can officially say that the Tin Fabrication work is done. I have shot pretty much the last coat of primer on it and now going to let it dry really good for a week or so. It feels great to have it at this point since I feel I have been reworking the tins for a while...lol. There are two spots on the dash where it looks like the body work swelled or popped from the primer. Those areas I may lightly sand and mist some more primer in those areas and It will be ready for paint. Now I can't wait to paint it but then its going to suck to have to cut and trim all of the rivets after that...lol Alright I will get on with the pics.....hehe Here is the dash once again, and as mentioned there are a couple spots which you may be able to notice where the primer made some of the body work pop that I will lightly sand and mist some primer in those areas: Here is an overall shot of the tins, views of two different angles: Here is the firewall, I do need to drill out all of the rivet holes to help prevent paint build up in them:
