  1. Clay... You are the master my friend. Fantastic update. Man those new sides for the wings are beautiful. I have the same Dubro tube benders in 1/8" and 5/32". I found the same thing happened to me the sample piece they gave bent much nicer than the K&S tubing. What I found out was the K&S tubings wall thickness was .014" and the sample tube fron dubro was . 019". Love the start of the headers. I will post a pic of my jig I made to solder my headers for my funny car when I get home from work. It may help but then again you may have already figured out a jig to solder them. Keep up the awesome work.
  2. Hot Diggity Dog Tyrone.... Those rear slicks look great and so does the 5 point harness... Very nice work. I love every update on this. What grit of paper did you use on the side walls?? It's making me wonder if I should sand the side walls on the Army Funny car build. Also Who's photo-etch belts did you use on this build. They turned out great.
  3. Thanks Dirk... I will have take you up on the offer about which accessories to go with. I have been eyeing the 6200 Lathe and Mill "Ultimate Machine Shop Package" with the Digital Read outs. I just need to save up the 3 grand cash.... LMAO http://www.sherline.com/packages.htm
  4. Paul... you are right about the Rivets plus some could have used machine screws which I am sure Rivets would of been a much easier way but you never know what people did back then...lol I will work on getting that stuff copied for you. Bob... Thank you so much. I am hoping to do a little magic with this blower...lol Jim... Thank you very much. Dave... Thank you. I can't wait to get paint on the valve covers now but will wait to get the blower done as well because they will have the same paint. Scott... Thank you. I am gonna have to change it up to keep you on your toes...lol Hey random question how long does it take for you to get your photo-etch back from your photo-etcher?? I may have to PM you with and Idea I am toying with for something on this build. and whats the thinnest material you can get? Bob... Thank you on the blower. You need to pull that garlits dragster out my friend. I love me some other 1/16th scale builds. I am glad that this build is inspiring people. Well Fellas... Time for me to get to the hobby bench and make some progress with this blower. Hoping to have some progress to show later.
  5. I guess johnny is still out looking for his minions. I think they may have gone i strike....
  6. Brad.... nice update buddy. It is looking good. I feel the pain about matching parts from scrarch building bit with your talent I know you will knock it out of the park.
  7. Tyrone... Looking good Brother!!! That Racepac gage looks great. Looks like you got hooked up to some power and the back light is on....lol Keep the pics coming. Nice work
  8. Well fellas.... I got a little bench time in tonight and decided it was time to start back on the blower. I have started to prep it by sanding areas and going to fill the pin holes to get it ready for primer. Here are a few shots of what I did tonight which isn't much.... Here is the blower as it has been sitting for a while with 3 views. I wanted to show a few before so you can see what it looks like after: Now here is a shot of the blower on the restored car: I started looking at the pics of the car that I have an I noticed that the front of the blower was a little different that what I had. So you know me trying to make this as accurate to the restored car as possible. I started by reworking the front of the blower. what you see here was just me cutting some of the blower away with an Xacto knife and sanding with a file and sanding sticks. After sanding most of what I did I decided to shot a quick coat of primer on it so I can see where I will need some bondo. The next step will be adding bondo to the front pieces and getting them all smoothed out:
  9. Henry... Thank you Ray... Thank you Paul... Thank you. Hey I still owe you a disk. will PM you about it. Brad... Thank you. I think also with the stainless when its installed it will reflect all of the black around from above and sides. I think it will give a good contrast. Well I am excited to getting around to painting the tins and installing the rivets although its gonna suck to have to cut and trim the 175+ rivets on the tin work...lol What did I get myself into haha
  10. Very nice job on this one. It is a very clean build. What brand of automotive paints do you use, I love using PPG and house of Kolor, you can beat them.
  11. Nice work. This turned out great!
  12. Awesome looking build gotta love those curb sides. I have a curbside going that I need to finish up myself.i had started it to take a break from the funny car....lol
  13. Another outstanding build. I would sure love to see what you could do to a 1/16th scale build...lol
  14. Darryl... I sure love your builds an admire your talent.
  15. Well Fellas... I can officially say that the valve covers are finished with primer and all they need are the bolt holes drilled for the oil breathers. I can finally paint them...lol Then I met up with Brad (AKA Gasser59) yesterday and took this build as a show n tell with him and I asked him if I should paint the rivets or leave them silver.... well I had to do a little test shot today and I will see what everyone thinks.... Here are the valve covers with final primer on them: Here are the test shots of painting the rivets versus leaving them the stainless color. Let me know which looks best and be honest.... Thanks!:
  16. Darryl.... Thank you very much sir. Dave.... Thank you my friend. No we got a little rain at my house but north phoenix got hit hard by the flooding
  17. Dirk... Wow I have to say this build is just fantastic and Bad A$$. I love the direction you are going with this. Your work is amazing. I know I am a little late to the game but I will be following along. Keep up the killer work. What brand of lathe do you have for the parts you machined?
  18. Brad... they are almost there but need a little more TLC.... to make them pass inspection...lol I am probably a harder critque on my own work because I want it to be perfect. I sure wish the humidity would go away so I could do some painting... i want to see thesw in Alclad really bad...lol Scott... thank you for the kind words. Clay... thank you. Your builds have given me that extra motivation to push my limits farther than they have ever been before. Thank you for being an inspiration to me.
  19. Clay... Phenomenal work my friend. Please leave all the Carbonfiber shiny. It looks so good that way and makes the rear end comoonents pop with that Wow factor. I have to say some of the best C/F decal work a I have ever seen. I also love that you went back and redid the paint on the valve covers as well as adding the valve cover gaskets to the engine. Just that small little feature adds so much more to this already awesome build. You are reminding me alot of myself when something we arent happy with and how we go back and redo things to make them look right to us. I have done that to many and I mean many of my parts on the funny car..lol Oh yeah you have set that bar for me and I hope to be half as good as you are some day.
  20. Ok Fellas as promised here are a few pics of the valve covers. They are almost done and ready for paint. I noticed tonight after getting some primer on them that I have just a couple more spots that I need to touch up and then they will be ready for the final primer coat. then I can sand with some fine paper and finally get some Black base and Alclad on them. Here is a few pics... Here I was getting the valve covers sanded with some 500 grit paper: I added some Bondo in a few of the last areas I noticed that needed some filler: Here they are after shooting some primer on them. I noticed a few spots that I need to do a little sanding and fixing then they should be ready for their last primer coat: Another view in primer:
  21. Simon... Here is a couple of pics of the parts modeled in Solidworks.... Front View - 1/16th on the left, 1/24th in the middle and right. As you can see the one on the right I removed the mounting holes as well as I made the hole where the hose attaches to smaller. I did that to see if it would get rid of the errors I was having in the White strong and flexible material. It did But my personal opinion is that its probably best to do it in the Frosted Ultra Detail because it will turn out better and capture a little more of the detail. Although the draw back is that they will cost a tad more but if one wanted to go with the White strong and flexible you could always drill your own mounting holes and open up the hole for the hose: Top View - Same Order 1/16th on the left and 1/24th both in middle and Right: Back View - 1/24th on left and middle, 1/16th on the Right:
  22. John... my brother will you quit teasing us with the real car and show the model.... Absolutely Gorgeous my friend. You know I am a big fan of your work and admire your builds. I have had the honor of seeing this and many other of Johns builds in person and they are amazing. this build.
  23. I couldn't agree more that we have a new Sheriff in town. Tim.... The work you do is simply amazing. That engine is Gorgeous and I can tell that there are many and I mean many hours into this and it shows. Seeing builds like this makes me want to go out and purchase the Sherline Lathe and End Mill I have been eyeing for some time. I am looking forward to seeing much more of your work on here. keep up the great work.
  24. Simon... I got the breather scaled down to 1/24th and the prices are as follows what shapeways quoted: White, Strong & Flexiable - $1.55 ea Frosted Ultra Detail $5.09 ea the only issue I see is that with the White Strong and Flexible is that the size that it is there is some thin walls I got when I uploaded the parts around the mounting holes. So for giggle and grins I thought let me take the mounting holes out and change the main big inlet/outlet holes to get rid of the thin walls and see what the price came out. Since shapeways prices things by volume there wasn't much difference between the two ways I tried but I was curious. if you want to see and image of them I can save them out as a jpeg and post it, just let me know so you can see what I am talking about.
  25. Simon... I should have a price tonight after I get home from work in a little bit. I was planning on updating a few other parts and re-uploading them on shapeways. I had a few areas on a couple of parts that the thickness needed to be a little thicker. When You upload parts on shapeways it does a quick analyze to make sure the thickness and model is ok on things and will show any ares of concern. Stay tuned and I will have info for you.
