  1. Brad... LOL I think I am a little nuts... haha Well I guess the little mini me I stole from Johnny T is slacking off his duties.... not used to the AZ weather and all...haha. I had to go back and look at pics and oops they didn't get torqued down propperly...haha Its always a pleasure to meet up with ya. I had a blast chatting with everyone yesterday.
  2. Depending on what you are looking for you can get Hemi's in Resin, 3D printed or from a few kits. If you go the Resin Route Mark Johnson makes the best resin engines around. He had a 392 and 426 Hemi. you can take a look at my Funny Car thread to see the 426 Hemi of his that I am using for my funny car. The 3D hemi from TDR/Shapeways is going to be more expensive than the resin. You could always use an engine from either a 1/16 funny car or Dragster as well.
  3. Ok Fellas... a little morning teaser from what I did Friday night. its not much of an update but I did get the breathers mounted to the valve covers. so now the valve covers can get their final sanding and will be ready for paint. I did some fun shots of the engine just to play around. I have a couple of house chores I was going to work on then I was going to spend the rest of the day at the bench on this. So I am hoping to possibly have some good progress today. Some of the day may be working on drawing up a few of the other parts so I can get them done and printed. Here are a few pics to tease you all with.... Here is the engine with the oil breathers mounted: This shot shows how you can read the EP on the side of the breather: Front View: Opposite side: Backside:
  4. Bob... you are so right about the 3D printing that it has its strengths and weakness. Your part isn't going to ever be perfect like a kit part coming from an injected mold process and there is some clean up and work. But isn't this what this hobby is about is being creative and having fun. That's what I am doing with it and having a blast. all of the extra sanding and hard work I have been putting into this is going to pay off when its all done. You have read my mind about the blower, You will have to hang tight because as soon as I am done drawing up the Hilborn Fuel pump I was going to mess around with the blower. Simon... Sounds good about the firebottles. I will need to work on getting those files created.
  5. Clay... I am truly blown away by your talents. Those headers are a work of art and masterpiece. I love the first pic of the mocked up pics just looks Bad A$$!! Awesome use of the Dirt Modeler tabs. I think it s so cool how we can incorporate many of these different aftermarket pieces into different parts of our builds.
  6. You know he has probably been dusting other things off.... something tells me he will build another 1/2 dozen builds before the next DSC...lol.
  7. That base coat is looking great and can't wait to see the camo on this. Sounds like I will need to buy a Meng kit one of these days. I know Tamiya seems to be up there in fitment and engineering compared to companies here in the U.S.
  8. Mike... you guys were the dynamic duo on this one working together to create a beautiful body.
  9. Mike... you know I love that body. You and Jay did a killer job on it.
  10. Jimmy... Thanks, yeah it doesn't look too bad for the first go around. This Frosted Ultra detail material sands very easy. I have to say i am fascinated with this 3D printing technology as well. Shapeways was really easy to work with. Once you upload your part it analyzes the model showing areas of concern if any and gives you pricing in a few mins. You know my gears are turning. Sent you a PM Tom... thank you Bob... thank you. I have to say that the writting turned out better than I thought. I didn't know if it would even work that small. I will have to take a pic of it next to a penny for reference so you can see how small it is. Brad... thank you. yes they cleaned up quite nice. You are right we have a winner . I think i may do what you suggested for the blower and add a light wash of black around the letter to make them pop.
  11. ok guys I sanded on the breathers and added more primer for about an hour to hour and half tonight for the first round of body work on these. The don't look too bad although I will be sanding some more with some finer paper this time. I had just used a fine pink sanding stick and some 500 grit paper to get the printing lines and I think looks goo for the first go around. Then I added some primer to see how they looked and here is the results.... They do need some more primer and some more sanding: Here is set them on the valve cover to get a look at them:
  12. Simon sounds good I will get them scaled down to 1/25th. I think I did 1/24th another time. You would also like the fire bottle mounts? what about firebottle.... well not in the white material but the frosted Ultra detail...lol
  13. Where is Danno when you need him..... "Paging Danno to the Lobby.... Your assistance is needed".....
  14. Curt.... This is one awesome and killer build. I love it. So creative. I had no clue Land Speed record cars was the theme for next year NNL West. I recently picked up a pretty cool 1:43rd scale Land Speed car that I am wonder if I could get done by them along with my Army Vega Funny car....lol time running out. I am looking forward to seeing this killer bar stool racer in person. Again Nice Job.
  15. This is off to a great start. Looks like a great kit. I have heard some good things about Meng kits. Looking forward to your weathering. It's an area in model that I want to learn and I have a few military kits I want to weather up myself.
  16. Tyrone.... man this is looking sharp. Love the bullhorns you made for this it looks killer.and mean
  17. Brett...nice job mate!! this turned out nice. Love the top down pic. Looks like it just did a burnout laying some rubber down.
  18. Nice work... This is looking good. The paint looks great
  19. Wayne...nice work man. I am digging the mock up with the rims and tires. This is gonna be a great build. I admire your dedication to taking your time and getting the body sanded and prepped just right. I know what you mean you don't want to take too much off too fast so you don't lose any detail.
  20. Sean.... Beautiful work and this looks great. Nice job on this one.
  21. Charlie... I am so glad to see you are starting another build. I sure love your work. Your builds are always so clean and I admire your work. Looking forward to seeing more of this build.
  22. Clay... What more can I say. Every update gets better and better. I am loving this build. Those door panels look great and gonna be killer with carbon fiber on them. I know the labor pains with sanding and filling and more sanding and filling with the body. It will be worth the hours of elbow grease put into it. I am dreading that point when I get there on my Army Funny Car but Inknow I am going to have to add bondo to the inside and sand smooth. Seeing your build in primer makes me want to start getting some primer on the F/C body. Love the progress you are making. Keep up the awesome work and thank you for sharing this build with us. It's a treat to be able to see this come together. I learn something from every update.
  23. Tim... This is looking good. Keep up the great work. Dave is one heck of a guy and he know his stuff. He has helped me quite a bit with info behind the scenes with my funny car build. Proud to call him one of my friends, he is always willing to help. My funny car would be where it's at with out his advice.
  24. Ira... That body is shaping up real nice. I have to agree with Tim a chopped top would add to the awesomeness of this build...lol but I know how much more work it is.
  25. Hi Bob.... you are correct that there are some lines in the frosted. I can tell you this much the frosted ultra detail material is so much softer and easier to sand. I used some of the tdr brake calipers on the rear end and I had no issues sanding. Now the White strong and flexible is the pain to sand because it is much harder. Also the price difference on the breathers is about $4.00 ea so about $8.00 for a pair. I will definitely show you the results when I get to starting to sand them. I will let the primer dry for a day or two. before I mess with them...lol who knows maybe I will be sanding them tomorrow night...haha. But will keep you posted so you can see how they turn out.
