Clint... thanks for the kind words. Here is another shot of the engine at different angle where you can see the manifold. I will have to say I am pretty happy with the color I sprayed on it...lol Gabriel... Thank you... I have to agree with you that the right spoon is the color that it will get sprayed. John... thank you for the nice words and for taking a few hours to go thru part of this thread. I know there are a lot of pages to go thru. Thank you for following along. Greg... Hey my long lost Aussie mate... How you doing buddy? It's great to hear from you and see you are back online. Thank you for the kind words. I have been a little busy on this and getting more done, I really can't wait until I have the motor assembled. I am getting really close to starting it but still have a few parts that need a little work to them. I look forward to see progress on some of your steller builds. Have you done anymore to the Pro Mod Camaro of yours?? So Fellas... I have some good news or what I think is good news. I finished all of the prep work on the block yesterday and got another couple coats of primer on it. I had it sitting under my make shift heat lamp to help the primer cure faster and It is ready to be painted. At the same time I sanded down the oil pan because it had some scuff marks in the paint from my height stand I made way back to get it to set at the correct height when I was making all of the mount brackets and well I couldn't let it fly so its going to get repainted as well. Then I also wasn't happy with the heads because I saw that they had a few sand scratches in them. So I decided to repaint them, the heads had too much of a gloss look so once I paint the black again I will hit them with some sort of a satin clear to tone it down. Hopefully I will be able to break the airbrush out today and spray these parts, if not I will spray them tomorrow Here are a couple of pic of the parts in their last days of primer... ... Before I primered the block, I started making a mounting plate for the Fuel pump that will be scratch build for this: Here is the block with the final primer coat on it. All I am going to do is hit a few of the spots that there was dust in it with some fine paper before it is painted: All of these parts are ready to be painted: -
This turned out nice. Looks great

How did you melt yours?

Many many years ago (probably 20 years ago) I remember building the LAPD pro stock camaro and well I painted the roll cage and I had put it under my desk lamp to heat it up to help it dry faster. When I came back to take a look at it, I moved the lamp and well the part was gone. I then realized I put the lamp too close to the roll cage and it was stuck to the light bulb. And we'll it wasn't the same shape anymore and it was jacked up. I learn to never put the lamp that close anymore to help paint dry...lol -
This is a very nice build. It looks great!!

Scott... Thank you for the kind words. you are welcome for the Alclad color guide, I wasn't sure how many people knew about it or not and thought it would be good to share. Gabriel... I originally shot it with the ALC-101 aluminum and I know that color isn't the best match. I never did think of shooting some dullcote over it. I just picked up some of the Semi-Matte Aluminum from Hobby Depot and I have been torn between the ALC-117 Dull aluminum and the ALC-116 Semi-Matte Aluminum. I think I may need to do a spoon test of each. I really need to be smart and have a bunch of spoons pre primered...lol -

Brad... Thank you ...guess I am going to give hobby depot a call and see if they have the semi-matte aluminum in stock. I can't wait to have more of this done myself. I have been dying to get paint on the block. -

Bob... You are gonna laugh out of all the aluminum colors I don't have the semi matte aluminum...lol maybe I need to run to the hobby store haha. I believe this was an Ed Pink motor that he ran. -

Gabriel... Thank you, I also have to say that I do agree with you that the block may have too much shine to it. After you mentioned that the block looked a little duller in the pic. I went back and looked at a couple of the pics I have with the engine and I can see you are right that it doesn't have a big shine in them. I was debating on shooting it with Alclad's Dull aluminum ALC-117. Here are the aluminum colors I have from Alclad: Aluminum ALC-101 Duraluminum ALC-102 Polished Aluminum ACL-105 White Aluminum ALC-106 Dull Alminum ALC-117 Airframe Aluminum ALC-119 Here is probably the best shot i have of the engine block color: Here are pics off Alclads website on what the colors look like: -

Tyrone... I absolutely love this build. You knocked it out of the park . I love how this yellow looks with the black stripes. I think this is my new favorite build of yours. So when you gonna kill it with a 1/16th scale build? Hint hint ...lol Dave... That is an awesome pick with the smoke you added to the pick. When I get my funny car done, I may have to have you do the same thing to it lol -
Thank you, whomever you are

Bob... the only pics of this actual car that I have are the ones that are on the Snake racing Website page under his collection and it doesn't have any what I would call real good close up shots of the engine. I wished I had some shots of this motor outside of the chassis because I know it would help like you mentioned. I appreciate your help as well. -

Scott.... Thank you. I can see some of the sand scratches with my naked eye but its on surfaces that the manifold and heads go on. And I notice them with my optivisor too lol. You are probably right that no one will really notice.but I think it would look much better over a black base. Dave.... Yeah I should of tested this first on a spoon. Alclad is pretty easy to shoot. I have enjoyed spraying it just some colors I m not sure if I need to lay a black base down or not. Dave.... Thanks...it is sweet to finally see some color on the block but I do have a couple do mods I still need to do on the block. Bob... Thank you sir. I never really thought about adding a light black wash. I was trying to figure which Alclad aluminum that have would represent the look of machined aluminum the best...lol -

Dave.... LOL, I think I forgot that gasket....haha . I can't wait til I have the engine done to share with everyone. Art.... Thanks Brother!! I appreciate you following along. Well guys I decided to do a quick test shoot with the aluminum for the block. I am using Alclads aluminum Part number ALC-101. I sprayed it over the gray primer and have to say not sure if I am 100% sold on it yet. I had scuffed up the primer with some scotch brite and some fine paper (1000 grit). I think I am going to be reshooting it with a black base so it helps the Aluminum pop a little more. Let me know your thoughts on it. Here is the block after it was painted. I can see some sand scratches in it and I can't figure out why. I am wondering if it is because this pain is so thin: I had to add the heads to get and idea of what it will look like with the color contrast. I should of added the copper gaskets to it too but didn't : -
That rolling chassis looks killer. I am sure you feel like you have hit a bit milestone. I know I did when I got my funny car to the rolling chassis point. Nice work Mark. Keep up the great work.

Bob.... thank you. You are gonna laugh at this one. I ended up using micro scales krystal klear white glue.i painted the white glue into the gap and them came back with a brush that I dipped in water to smooth the glue out. Wasnt sure if it was gonna work and think it turned out ok. Mike...thanks man. Now the block is finally ready for paint . Well with the exception of a lightly sand or scotch brite before painting. Now I will be working on the valve covers.
