Dave... I have to say that this build is Engineering at its finest.... That is perfect clearance between the front clip and block Keep up the Killer work my friend.
-
As Casey mentioned you may want to check with Mark Johnson.... I believe he may have something but I am not 100% sure. What I can say is Mark has some great products and is a great guy to do business with.

Derrick... I am loving the wheelie bar set up. It looks killer. As you mentioned I am all too familiar and how big detail projects can take some time. And during the project you get to spots where you are burnt out. I have been there recently and haven't been able to get to the bench on this one for over a month or more. I am itching to get back at it though. Thanks for the kind words on my vega build. I can't wait to finish it so I can start my next 1/16th scale build. This build of yours has been a pleasure watching it come together.

Ira.... this is looking freaking awesome man. That chassis looks great with the wash. I can't wait for more updates

Derrick.... Looking killer my friend. You are getting closer to the end of the tunnel with this one. It is coming together nicely. Keep up the great work. Can't wait to see more.

Norm is a great guy and he puts out some great products. I am very happy with the quality of all the parts I have ordered from him. -

Thumper... That is a smoking deal for the Makerbot. I have been eyeing one myself and I know they are 2200.00 off their website. I would say you totally scored on that one. I have a good buddy of mine that is in California that has one and I am going to send some parts that I am drawing up so he can print them for me so I can see how they turn out in that machine. I would have no complaints picking one up for 500 bucks...lol -

Art... Thanks for the encouraging words. Joe... I am not 100% sure but I think the spacer tube you are talking about is a sleeve that the steering shaft is going thru. I know someone that can probably answer that question for sure though. my plan was to use a tubing size one bigger that what I will use for my steering shaft and make it look similar to the 1:1 pic. Bill... Thank you my friend. I can't wait to get the engine painted and onto some assembly with details to share with everyone. Darryl... Thank you bud.... Man I wish I had the skills to machine everything and to be able to throw some nitro in the tank and have that bad boy fire right up and Cackle...lol Well fellas I was not able to get any bench time this weekend but I am hoping to get a little time in the evening's this week to get more done. will keep you posted and thanks for following along on this long journey -
Hey Everyone... thanks for all of the kind comments. I haven't had time to get to the bench this weekend but wanted to show you all the results on how the Mico Kristal Klear turned out. I swear by the product that its the best white glue I have ever used. Here are a couple pics.... The Glue has dried:

Ok Fellas... I know its been a while since I have had an update on it but. I got a little bench time in on it tonight and thought I would share. Now its not much but I am happy with it. Anyway I wasn't happy with the speedo gauge on the dash. Well I happened to find a guy selling them on ebay and picked it up, got it in the mail today and had to put it on...lol. I originally was going to find something and scale it down and print it on my computer but when I saw this and I said for $2.50 I am just gonna buy it...haha. any way here are a few pics.... Here is the gauge face I was able to pick up off ebay. It was printed on photo paper and I had to cut it out: Here it is cut out and glued in place: I next used Microscale Krystil Klear white glue for the glass of the gauge face. as you can see the white glue has been put over the speedo. This is the only glue that I have use that dies completely clear that I know of: Here is a pic I took while it is still drying, I wanted you to see how its starting to turn clear: Another Picture, I couldn't wait til it was completely dry...lol but It looks like I may of gotten a couple of air bubbles in the glue. Hopefully they won't be so noticeable when it completely dries, I was super excited to get this done and had to share before it was finished up:

Dave... The personal 3D printer that my buddy out in California has is a Makerbot Replicator and it will print in ABS and PLA materials. I think he only had the PLA material at the moment. Scott... You guys are right about having to space the bottle farther out from the steering shaft. I will be making that fix spacing it out farther and hopefully it will look much better...lol I have been doing ok. I started up some work again today. It's only a short term... 2 weeks but it will help the pocket book for bills. Charlie... Thanks for the compliments on this build. I can't wait to get your braided hose added to this. It's sitting in my aftermarket parts ready to go on....lol you are right don't want the driver accidentally hitting the fire bottle lol. Dave... Thanks buddy. Oh yeah I was planning on posting pics of how these parts turn out for sure. Was gonna take pics of them when I get them and will also toss some primer on them on some additional pics. I too am curious how they will turn out. I know that I will still have to sand and add a little bondo to them. I hear you that would be nice to have a personal 3d. printer -

Bob... Thank you for the kind words and very nice of you to say. I know I still have a lot to learn to improve my building skills because I know there are way more talented builders here than me. I sure hope I didn't ruin 1/16 scale funny cars for you, that is the last thing I would ever want to do to anyone. I would hope that people have learned something from my builds just as I have learned so much from other builders here. I really appreciate you following along on this build. Brad... Thank you for the kind words. i think I understand what you were talking about with the bracket getting a little thinner in the width between the bottle and steering shaft. I may of looked at the reference pick wrong inking it had a curve in where in reality the bracket was actually straight at that point. And on bothe the 10lb and 5lb set up I had used a dimension of .300" from the center of the bottle to the center of steering shaft which the 10ln set up needs to be changed by making that dimension a little longer. I was trying to find an actual bracket like that one on the Internet but wasn't able to find one. So I was also measuring the one from revell as a starting point. I will be updating these 3D models and posting updated pics to see what everyone thinks. Joe... Thanks buddy. I appreciate your opinion and I have to agree that I think you are right about it being a 10lb bottle. I can't wait to have the model completed so I can email my buddy to print them. I am excited to see how well this personal printer of his prints. -
Awesome progress Aaron. Man this chassis is beautiful and full of detail you have added. What color is that on the chassis. I am digging it. Keep up the great work and I look forward to more.

Scott... Thanks buddy. When I drew it up I just threw out a number (.0625) for that offset for a starting point and gonna take it down to .030 to .040" and it should look much better. -

Alright Fellas.... wanted to show you a couple of things I was working on. I have actually started drawing up my fire suppression system and getting ideas for the mounting brackets. I have drawn them in Solidworks and am planing on having a friend of mine that is out in California print these parts for me on his Makerbot Replicator Personal 3D printer that he has. I have been curious as to the quality of printing that machine does. So once I get the parts I will be sharing pic of them. I am still not done drawing everything up. but I have drawn up two different systems one being 5lb bottle and the other a 10 lb bottle. I can't quite tell what size of bottle is in the real car.... Here are a few pics to show you The Two different bottles and brackets: Here is a straight on view so you could see the shape of the bracket: Here are the reference pics I am using to create my parts: As you can see I still have a few parts like the push button and nozzle to draw up. I also think I need to make may brackets a little smaller as to how much is wrapped around the bottle. Hopefully that makes sense. I will update them and show you the updates later. I am off right now to do some work on the block, valve covers, manifold and oil pan.... filling more pin holes and primering.... Stay Tuned -
Wow this is an Impressive and Beautiful build... I love the Pro Touring look you went with as well as you knocked it out of the park with the color. that metallic gray with the black stripes looks killer!!
-
Charlie... I think I have you beat on getting progress done. I have been on my funny car for over 2-1/2 years now and I need to finish it so I can move on to someone builds I have planned lol. No worries on the looms. I totally understand. I am trying to figure out what I can use for them for my Army Vega F/C. I almost wish I had my own home photo-etch system at home ...lol Get to the bench when you can and I will be looking forward to your next update. I just love how clean your work is.

This is gonna be a great build and looks spot on so far.
