  1. Very cool build and it's off to a great start. I would love to do one of these in 1/16th scale. I bet this get moved to the drag racing section....
  2. Jesse.... That is Bad A$$ too.... I think I am digging this one a little more..lol was gonna say do one of each but if you do only one I say go for the red and white. Totally cool Ira... Keep up the great work. Sorry I have Hijacked your thread.
  3. Tim....I do this all the time when I update my posts and add a date. After I post pics I go back to my very first post on page 1 of my thread and I edit the first post then you need to click on edit .... Then use full editor and you can edit your title there. It's the only way I figured out how to do it, I am really looking forward to updates on this beauty.
  4. I think we all want to be able to build as fast as Johnny "Alclad" Teresi. We would finish 12 to 15 models a year that are highly detailed...lol
  5. Danno... Thank you. just wait til the huffer is done. I think you will be impressed... Clayton... Thank you. Dirk... Thank you for stopping by to check this build out. Bob.... Thank you so much for the kind comments and I appreciate you following along. I know there will be a lot of patience involved on my part because it will take a little time and a lot of elbow grease. I was planning on taking bondo to the places between the fins on the main body and I was going to cut a piece of brass or plastic little smaller than each width to get in there and sand. You are correct that there are many tight spots, I can think of the back plate isn't going to be fun to do the body work but its where I will be starting in the morning after I get up and get at this build. The rest of the weekend is pretty much going to be working on this build besides a few house chores I need to do and as well a run to my local hobby store I frequent quite a bit to pick up the newest Model Cars Magazine. stay tuned and I will have some pics to show tomorrow. I didn't get any bench time tonight because I was reorganizing my hobby room... I should just of worked on the funny car...haha
  6. Tim... Fantastic work. I love your attention to detail. Simply Beautiful Work!! I sure would love to see what you could do in 1/16th scale.
  7. Dirk... Thank you for the advice on these other items. I will definitely look at getting them as well. I am hoping possibly after the first of the year that I will be able to go ahead and purchase the set up I want. I will tell you this I am itching and excited about making some of my own parts. I have been putting off buying it because I have had to take care of other things first .... I Have had to replace my roof and paint my house this year, was a pretty penny too....lol I will keep you posted on the Sherline stuff. Any more updates to this beauty?? I am also curious what you used for the faces on your gages. They turned out great!
  8. Ira... you are at it again and its looking good. Can't wait to see what all you do to this bad boy. Keep up the great work. Jesse... I have to say I would go the Moonliner route... then again I am a fan of Mooneyes...lol do you have a pic if the other one?
  9. Brad.... Hot diggity dog..... that front end is sweet. You are the new sherrif in town. Love your work and creativity. I can't tell you how many times I have shot a bolt or rivet across the room...lol
  10. Alan... Thank you for the kind words. I know this last update wasn't very exciting but I am chipping away at the work I need to do to the blower and can't wait to have it done. I have a few things that I hope to surprise everyone with on it..... They are just subtle details is all, probably something that not many would notice and reason I am doing it is to make it as accurate as I can since I have been staring at the reference pics for the past 3 years of the Army Vega...lol
  11. Ok Fellas... I have done a little work tonight and got all of the panel lines scribbed for the front and rear plates. So glad to have it done. I know its not perfect but hope it looks good once its final primered state and with paint. Here are a few shots: Here is the front panel of the blower scribbed: Here is a top view: Here is the Rear panel:
  12. Scott... Thank you. I totally get where you are coming from and I think a half etching would be the way to go. Plus as you said you would have a much better area to glue too. you know me, I will probably try to model something up in Solidworks to get an idea...lol Here are a couple of pics I found on line: Bob... you are right about that it would be hard to replicate. I may try to see if I can get a small piece 3D printed with what I possibly draw. I can always upload to shapeways and see if it give me a thumbs up or down on the design...lol but I think photo-etch would have a better quality. Hakan.... Thank you. you were right about all of those having the same blower. Although I think this build would be much tougher with this amount of detail in 1//25th I am trying to replicate. I guess you can say I have been bitten by the 1/16th Scale Bug....lol
  13. Tyrone.... Awesome Job man... I just googled the above and I can't agree more with everyone saying it earned every penny of that. Beautiful work my friend.
  14. Niko... thank you my friend, I really appreciate the kind words. You would think that it wouldn't take much time to scribe a few lines but I have to tell you. It's been a pain in the butt...lol. I do know that the work going into will pay off when I have it done. I did get the the one panel line finished up last night and started on the forward most panel line on the frint plate. I hope to finish that one tonight and start working the rear panel line as well. Then I have a couple other things up my sleeve to try on the blower as well
  15. Brad.... you are at it again my friend. That rolling chassis is looking very nice. Keep up the great work and I am looking forward to your next update.
  16. Bill... Awesome! I could totally see John Teresi building something like this
  17. Then I started to scribe the front panel putting the panel lines back in that I lost when gluing together. Now keep in mind I am still working on these and they aren't completely done yet: Here is the bottom: And the other side, which I don't have much done there yet:
  18. ok Fellas... Before I went out of town for the weekend. I had a little progress that I made on the blower but it isn't much. I started doing a little bit of the body work to the front plate of the blower and started to rescribe lines that I lost when I glued the parts together. Here is where its at at the moment.... Here I added some bondo to the front face: Sanded it down: + Then I shot a quick coat of primer just to get an idea what more I need to sand and fill with some more bondo:
  19. Paul... Thank you. I will have to check it out and possibly order some. Scott....thank you for getting back to me. I am not sure which material would be better. But I was half tempted in trying to draw up the M for the mooneyham blower to add that detail to the front of the blower. I Amal, oat wondering if it would be easier as a 3D print... Guess I am thinking of all options to add the littlest of details....lol I wil. Ponder on it some more...lol Steve... Thank you for the info. I wasn't sure when Littlefield blowers first made. Very cool about being an engineer for the manufacturing line for the GM 6-71's. the only think I know is Prudhomme only ran this for 2 races I believe, dint like how it handled and switched to another funny car. I guess I am glad I am doing a replica of the restored car because there is a tad bit more pics of it than when it was driven in its day. I am also glad that someone pointed out to me that it was a Mooneyham I stead of a littlefield blower.
  20. Bob.... No I don't yet. I have been out of town visiting Family in Cali this past weekend. Now that I am home I am going to try and get some bench time in tonight but have a few things to do first. Tyrone.... Thank you my friend. Hakan.... Thank you for the information. I first thought that the M was for Mert Littlefield blowers. I appreciate the info. You are right that, that is what they have on the restored car. I have no clue what he actually ran on it back in the day but since this build is based of the replica I will go that route. I am trying to figure out how I can make the "M" and put it on my blower....lol Yes I am nuts...lol
  21. You are welcome Clay. I have to agree that the solid rod would bend really nice. I really like that you are going to approach it that way. Iam looking forward to progress pics on it and I cant wait to see the Alclad heat staining with on them. I know they will look killer. I need to lear the heat staining method...lol
  22. Clay... here is the response I got this morning from the email I sent to K&S engineering: "Call Special Shapes company at 773-229-0740 You will not find the .020 wall at a retail outlet"
  23. Clay... I used to remember a site that was called smallparts.com which I believe is now on amazon where you can find materials, I know they carry brass stock. I was trying to look it up earlier but wasn't having much luck finding the sizes we need and I haven't been able to find anyone that has the thicker wall tubing but I know someone has to stock it. I would like to have both of those sizes with the thicker wall just for the reason that they bended much easier with that dubro tubing bender. I am going to keep looking and will let you when I find it. I am even thinking of contacting K&S to find out which distributors carry the thicker wall stuff. If this work is considered sloppy work.... I would take it over my best work any day....lol. Clay's work is some of the best out there but I can relate to Clay that we can be our own worst critics. I have felt that way on some parts of my funny car build that I just am not happy with some things. But as you said it Scott..... I love where this build is going too. Clay.... Here are a few photos of the make shift header jig I made for my Army Funny Car: I used some basswood for the base and balsa for the smaller pieces... Edited to add: Clay here is a link to a place called specialty shapes which looks to be a partner to K&S or its a sister company. They have some .029 wall tubing. I wrote K&S asking about the .020" wall. when I hear from them I will let you know http://www.specialshapes.com/BrassTubing.html Here is where I found the special shapes on K&S's contact info http://www.ksmetals.com/ContactUs.html
  24. Brad.... I am loving this mock-up. It is looking killer!. Nice work and it sits perfect.
