If Trumpeter's chrome is anything like it was on the '60 Bonneville kit, stripping it will be easier said than done! Hmmm.............the release date is coming up fast! I better prime the bank account lest I get caught shorthanded!

Lookin' good Rick! At least you're well on the way to actually finishing yours!

to airbrush or not to airbrush
MrObsessive replied to hellonwheelz3's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Another point I'd like to make is to invest in a GOOD dual chamber respirator! As good as paint booths are, fumes are still floatin' around just waiting to get into your lungs. Especially if you're dealing with caustic stuff like Duplicolor (especially obnoxious fumes!) or other nasty stuff, you want a really good dual chamber respirator. -
to airbrush or not to airbrush
MrObsessive replied to hellonwheelz3's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
YES!! DO invest in an airbrush, and DO invest in a decent paint booth! As Victor said, things will go much smoother with these items! I moved away from cans many years ago as I got tired of the intermittent quality of the spray can itself. I control the volume of paint as well as the air flow. NOT some manufacturer that thinks they know better than I what the PSI should be at any given moment. I have at least four air brushes---------three models of Badgers and a Paasche. My spray booth is probably the best 250 bucks I've invested in this hobby! I used to get paint overspray everywhere, but it's much more controllable when you've got something that will suck it right out the window. It's a Paasche unit and it's definitely worth the money spent on it. -
Real or Model #92 FINISHED!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Just so y'all know, I did vote real. My reasons have nothing to do with last weeks clue.................Just keepin' my lips buttoned 'til Friday when Harry lets us know! -
Just one more quick note..................His website I think needs to be updated to be compatible with the new Internet Explorer 8. I just tried to use the "Compatibility View" on IE8 and the site still doesn't show up correctly. George, use Mozilla Firefox..............you won't have as many issues with it despite what Bill Gates says about the "new" IE8.

George, I just tried it on my end (No "S" in the addy) and it worked fine. See if my paste works here. Bob's link worked for me...........I was able to click/navigate through the site------he's got some nice stuff! What browser are you using? I'm on Firefox, but I notice it's not working with my IE8 (brand new this week for me). Probably some settings I have to change but don't have time right now as I'm leaving the house shortly. Let us know...............

Real or Model #92 FINISHED!

Ooooooh how I wish they would reissue THAT one!! Once again, like Belinda Carlisle sang with the Go-Go's in the early '80's---------Our (my) lips are sealed! -
Now that's one of the nicest '53's I've yet seen! FLAWLESS paint! That interior is spectacular too!

Real or Model #91 FINISHED!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
My Mom used to complain that I was a little too observant when I was a kid. But I can remember even noticing details on cars as a little kid in the '60's. I can remember older folks quizzing me on what cars were on the street and I could get them right most of the time without seeing the name. -
Real or Model #91 FINISHED!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Ahhh! Now I can spill the beans as to what made me vote real the second I saw this Belvedere! In an earlier post--------the first I made in this thread, I mentioned there was a subtle but important body detail that to me sticks out like a sore thumb every time I see this kit built. It's not the builder's fault BTW, but the kit manufacturers that can't seem to get this right! I've also noticed this error in diecasts including the absolutely beautiful 1/24 Danbury Mint that was just released. Here's the pic with my editing.................... I have the Revell '67 Belvedere kit and it's this detail that's prevented me from building it. The Revell body is way too flat across the rear roof and top window section. Unfortunately, the '67 Coronet suffers from this same malady as well. Now some are probably rolling their eyes and thinking "So what??" Well, it's small things like this that can make or break a model to me. I could fix this, but then there's that crease in the C pillar that has to be done also.........not always an easy task. The other details that you guys mentioned were correct also---------but it's this one that I noticed immediately. -

MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Nope! ..............and nope! Once I tell you guys you might run me out of town, but as I said in another post------This one faux pas in this "model" has bugged me for years! My answer after Harry gives his....................tomorrow! -
I'm on the list too with Strada Motorsports. I can't wait for this kit! I just hope that it's as good as the test shots show without any major foibles............When I'll build it though is anyone's guess! I'd stay tuned for a Gulf car................if this does as well as everyone hopes, we should see that one down the road. Yes, I agree------the Mark I's are about as close to perfection as you can get!

Real or Model #91 FINISHED!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Nope! One little hint..................It's a detail that NO ONE ever gets right as far as the making of the kit itself. At least I haven't seen it done right yet. This includes diecasts I've seen. Is that cryptic enough for you? -
Real or Model #91 FINISHED!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Okay, I didn't see that as legs...............as saw that as maybe a couple trees or bushes. Well-------one more day 'til we know for sure! No one has guessed which detail cinched (I think ) this for me...................... -
On my latest build I used Duplicolor paint over Plastikote primer, BUT-------I also airbrushed everything on as Duplicolor is a hotter paint than Plastikote. That gives a chance to gas out better than spraying it out of the can. I would recommend using a barrier on the plastic just the same to be on the safe side. My choice is Future Floor Wax (now called Pledge with Future Shine).

Thanks! As far as the other pics, a while back I changed the resolution on Fotki so the pics would show up larger there. I think what happened is that changed the URL on this end, so the pics would no longer show up here. In the future, I'll see if I can dig up the old threads and then repost the pics so they'll show up now.

1970 Cadillac Deville Convertible?
MrObsessive replied to revshag's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
That sounds like him Bob! I totally ignore auctions with faraway pics unless I've dealt with the seller before and had a good transaction. Too bad someone like Modelhaus or Missing Link doesn't do one.........at least you'd get top notch quality. -
Cruz, that is an absolute STUNNER!! You just keep churning out the hits! That's definitely contest winning material for sure!

Real or Model #91 FINISHED!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Nope, I didn't see the legs (don't see 'em actually )........Those that know me and what I'm a stickler for, will know the first thing I notice about a model (or real car) when I see it. That's all I can say! Lee the T-Bird is actually a '55 I converted from Monogram's '56.........it was built about 10 years ago, and was one I've been wanting one of the little three to kit for YEARS! -
Thanks all for the comments! I hope to get more done this week, especially getting the PE wheels done. I'm also in the middle of writing another article for MCM, so that's taking some time as well. I'll give you a hint to what it's about............one of the things I focused on with this build will be featured in the article. That's a nice little tease!---------Stay tuned! Hans, embossing powder is used to make cutesy little signs and cards. It works by heating up the powder with a heat gun, and it attaches itself to a preset pattern you've made on the surface. It comes in bunches of colors and can be found at most arts and craft stores. Here's a couple pics of the jar I used for this..................... I learned this technique right here on this forum, but I don't remember who originally posted using it------IIRC it was on a '65 Chevelle buildup? You apply it just like you would flocking........I like to do one section at a time, painting a square (same color as the powder) then sprinkle on the powder and let dry. The only drawback is the powder is a bit sparkly------this might have more to do with how it's processed than actual sparkles in the powder. Once the powder is fully dry, you can paint over it, but be careful as you don't want to lift the powder with your brush. Airbrushing might be a better way, but you gotta be careful you don't blow the powder away! Embossing powder looks better to me in this scale as it's more grainy for 1/24-25th than the too fuzzy at times flocking. Flocking would work better in 1/16th or larger IMO for carpeting. As far as the frame of the model------it does look a lot like AMT's Cobra, but there are some differences between the two. I wish Ford had actually made this car in 1:1, but with them already selling the 289 Cobra roadster and the Mustang on the way as well at the time, Ford probably felt it had the sporty car market covered. Hope all this helps and thanks for asking!

Nope! Patience my friend! -
Yep! That windshield frame is in need of a serious enlargement! I've got the '70's reissue (original?).........it's the white car with the racing numbers on it. In fact it was an eBay win from years ago. I bought it because I thought it was a neat looking car------now I'll definitely be taking a closer look now that you've piqued my interest Bob!

Oooooh don't be too sure George--------thin, realistic antennas CAN be done in scale! That wasn't the detail that tipped me off though...............hehehehe
