I ran across this on Autoblog.............very interesting! I got a 94% as I missed the question on school zones. I have had for a loooong time some real pet peeves when it comes to driving, but that's not what this thread's about. Just take the test for fun! Click here to see how good (or bad) you are!

Great machining work!! The paint is fantastic too! This is a neat kit..............I had one, but it was "stolen" at the last GSL......... I should pick up another as it looks like it builds up nice according to yours and Ron's.

Believe it or not............I once upon a time HATED models! You couldn't give one to me as I wouldn't touch it! That changed when I was 17 and a senior in high school-----all of a sudden I wanted to build and build like the ones I seen in the magazines. Of course, I had to learn to build up skills SLOWLY and it wasn't until the early '90's when I was in my early 30's that I started to get detailed with my builds. I'm still not perfect (I know where the boo-boos are ) but every model I build I learn something a little different. It could be to be a little more patient with paint, it might be to make those hinges a little tougher to withstand opening and closing------it might be to scratchbuild something that I haven't before. It's all a learning process, one that doesn't come overnight! If I can give you a bit of simple yet effective advice, and this can apply to just about anything in life-------"Results Will Follow Desire". I learned that from and older gentleman years ago, and I've found that to be VERY true! From losing weight, to finding a job, to getting that sparkling paint job everyone wants------If you desire it bad enough, the results are sure to follow.

There are four doors at first starting in '60 (My Dad had one), and then for '61 the two door hardtop was added. Also Dodge had their version the "Lancer" but that was a one year deal for 1962. I've always liked those Valiants as that was the first car I can remember as a kid that had a stick on the floor like my Dad had. (His was a 3spd) I can remember my Dad letting me "shift" along with him every once in awhile! ..................and the sound of that slant six whining along was umistakable! I can still recognize the sound of one to this day!

FIRST TIME MODEL BUILDER NEEDS HELP!!!!
MrObsessive replied to Emily's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Hi Emily................Welcome to the forum! One thing I can tell you about candies is when you paint (whether spray bomb or airbrush) is to count your strokes on each side of the car. Also when painting, you'll want to use a criss-cross motion to minimize "tiger stripes". By counting your strokes, this will ensure you get an even coat all around the body, and no mismatches which is easy to do with candies. Hope this helps! -

1932 ford
MrObsessive replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dave, I built this kit a loooooong time ago...........one thing I remember is that the ride height could stand to be a couple scale inches lower. Sits up too high to my view for a Ferrari. If you want to go all out, you've GOT to get one of Norm Veber's Ferrari engines for this kit. Probably one of the BEST V12's you can get for the money and is worlds better than the kit engine! Hope this helps! -
Whats up with E-model cars?
MrObsessive replied to george 53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
George, check to make sure you have cookies enabled on your browser. (get your daughter to help you out) Cookies are little bits of info your computer stores so that sites remember you each time you come on. Have her check to make sure the site (or generally your browser) has cookies enabled each time you visit. I can get on to eModelcars each time with no issue and I'm using Mozilla Firefox. -

AMX/Javelin question
MrObsessive replied to Steve D.'s topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
NO! Leave Dave's post up!! The more upbeat talk about the AMX the better! YES! They were/are still under appreciated as collector cars as you can find an nice driver 1968-70 AMX for less than $10,000. ...............And yes, there is a VERY loyal AMC club out there that LOVES the AMX/Javelin's to death! I belonged to our local chapter here when I owned mine. The only reason I sold the car-----I was leaving PA to be stationed down in Fort Jackson, SC and couldn't take the car with me. I HATED to get rid of it, but it had to go. Life's a little more quieter now, if a bit less exciting. It still comes back to me in dreams from time to time............... -
1932 foprd
MrObsessive replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Great score Dave!! You got the first issue of the XKSS........there was a reissue of that one in green a few years ago as I've got two of 'em (They're NOT for sale fellas! ) If you build that Jag, drop me a line as there are some pitfalls to look out for.........The '55 D-Type I built you all have seen on this forum came from that kit. ................and now I'm kinda jealous as you've got one of my holy grails........the Ferrari 275 N.A.R.T. Spyder!! The Mercedes is a beautiful kit also------I have the open 300 SLR version of that car. Have fun building 'em! -
AMX/Javelin question
MrObsessive replied to Steve D.'s topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Having once owned a 1:1 1969 AMX, they are the same from the doors forward. From the doors rearward they are two different cars as the AMX is a foot shorter (97" wheelbase) and the body work is totally different. Other things the 1968-70 AMX didn't share with the Javelin.......... Side glass Hoods Grilles Driveshafts Rear interior fittings Rear axle traction bars (although one could order 'em special on the Javelin) What they did share............... Running gear (engines, trans, etc......) Trunks Taillights Front fenders Bumpers Windshields Rear Windows Doors Interior door panels, seats and dashes. 1971 was the year the AMX became more "mainstream" sharing just about everything with the Javelin. One thing I loved about the AMX was you couldn't fake one------one can take a small block Corvette and turn into a big block. Yet another can take a '67 Mustang and turn it into a "Shelby". But you can't take a '68-'70 Javelin and turn it into an AMX! Sure wish I had kept mine.........it sure was a BLAST to drive with the 390/4spd combo and a 3:54 rear end! -

Real or Model #101 FINISHED!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
I was right! The giveaway right away for me was the window tracks. There were no tracks on the vent windows............how would the windows stay in place?? That was a good one Harry! Had a lot of folks fooled! BTW, it's too bad there's no decent kit of a proper '60's Austin Healey. -
Real or Model #101 FINISHED!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Uhhh............Harry doesn't give the answer until Friday. If it's Friday, I'll need to get house cleaning as it's now my weekend! -
My Mom bought a new '68 Javelin in the fall of '67, and it had the shoulder belts mounted on the roof. Looked kinda weird though as when (or if) you wore 'em, they looked strange just hanging there spoiling the looks of the pillarless lines of the roof.

40Th Annivarsary Of The Summer Of '69 Community Build
MrObsessive replied to Nick Winter's topic in WIP: Model Cars
That's right! .............and a very car aware eight year old then! I might not have known all the years or even all the makes, but there was IMO a lot more variety of what I saw on the streets then compared to what I see today. I also think there were a LOT more "oddball/quirky" makes on the road then as opposed to now. Today, too many people regard cars as nothing more than appliances........and what they buy reflects this. -

Keys CAN be put in 1/25 dashes!.............. -
That's a fine lookin' Duster James! That paint is FLAWLESS!! Yup! I once owned a 1:1 '74 Dodge Dart Sport (Duster clone) in the early '80's and always thought that feature was odd. There was room enough in the wheelwells for the windows to roll down, but Chrysler for whatever reason went with flip out rear quarter windows. Still it was actually a hardtop with frameless doors-----at least it didn't have that vision blocking center B pillar!

Fellas, if you haven't seen it yet, you've got to check out this auction on the 'Bay. Now I know folks can sell just about anything (including themselves ) but when you put up something that's somewhat intangible as this.............well what can I say? ..............and the fact that folks are willing to spend THOUSANDS on this makes me wonder if the economy is as bad as they say it is. Anyway check the link below........ http://snipurl.com/olkkg Unbelievable!
