Oscar, you heat the edge of the screwdriver over the candle for about 10-20 seconds, and then very quickly press down on the top of the "stem" poking through the tie rod end---or whatehaveyou. This is also known as "swaging". The screwdriver might leave some black residue on the part------this can be cleaned up. This makes a little "head" which will keep the tie rod end in place on the spindle. HTH!

Oldest Monogram car kit?
MrObsessive replied to Scott Colmer's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually, you need the [ /size ] (no spaces though) at the end of your line to get the size thing to take effect. I use it all the time when I post along with the blue color-------looks better than the boring plain black font that's always used. -
Laquer Paint on enamle primer...
MrObsessive replied to ProStr33t's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
In a word NO!!! NEVER put lacquer paint over an enamel primer!! You'll end up with a wrinkled, crazed mess! The reverse would work..............try your local hardware/auto supply houses for some Duplicolor or other type auto primer/paints. The key is LIGHT coats! Don't try to put lacquer paints on too heavy or the above result will occur. -
Memory lane, how many remember?
MrObsessive replied to RatRod's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can still remember watching Johnny Quest in 1964-65 and he (as a cartoon) advertised PF Flyers! That sure is a long lost name in sneakers! I can remember in the late '60's Tastykake's costing a dime, and our corner store sold bottles of coke for 12¢ I didn't start building models until '78, but I can remember them costing around $2.50 then------maybe two bucks on sale. John F. Kennedy? I wouldn't remember him being shot (two years old as of November 1963) but I DO remember a lot of hubbub around our television sometime back then------people running in and out of our house and it would have been Thanksgiving time, so that must have been what was going on. Back in '78 when I was a senior in high school, I worked at a McDonalds part time-----you could walk in with $3.00 where you and two of your friends could literally have a FEAST! -
1959 Pontiac Bonneville Wagon in Resin
MrObsessive replied to Blu_Hawke's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Yeah, that's back when Pontiac stood for something! They stood out not only by their looks, but also that "Wide Track" stance which was unique to them. So sad to see what they've become-----which is no more........... -
Some interior suggestion's
MrObsessive replied to FujimiLover's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Marc, something like this would look good with that gunmetal............... Tamiya water based acrylics has those exact shades for what you'd need. -
You did that in TWO MONTHS?? Something like that would take me two years! It's Gorgeous!!

1959 Pontiac Bonneville Wagon in Resin
MrObsessive replied to Blu_Hawke's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Steve Kohler of Star Models handles R&R Resin-----and yes, the Pontiac Wagon is still listed on his site. You can click here to get his number as it's best to call him first to see if he has one in stock. Hope this helps! -
All hope is lost!

This one.................. The tooling is a no brainer, but except for the '53 Starliner and the Avanti, Studes have been shown no love. -
Great job on the doors so far............AND your doors swing outside the body like they should for a '53. I like that shade of yellow for this......it suits the body well! As far as your trunk, you can hinge them on the tulip panel of the body. Basically the same type hinges as your doors............the gooseneck style. If you need a little extra room, you could always build the supports under where the package shelf would be. The package tray itself would hide the structure although you might have to scratch it out of sheet plastic and attach it that way. Keep up the good work!

I'm not much into customs, but that is beautiful!! Testor's Plum Crazy huh?............I have to give that paint a try as it looks to be very solid and not transparent looking like their other paints! Excellent work!!

George, check out this handy-dandy site here. It'll figure out the exchange rate as of today.......comes in handy for the day to day changes of our dollar against their dollar. HTH!

Most Stolen Cars Nationwide

One of the reasons I bought my Saturn Ion Coupe 5spd.................almost theft proof in this day and age of lack of manual trans driving skills. -
How good a driver are you?
MrObsessive replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The main reason why I thoroughly dislike minivans and SUV's! They hide too much of oncoming traffic! Even worse is being stuck behind them and you can't see around 'em. I'll be glad personally when they're no longer hogging up the road and folks go back to a regular STATION WAGON! -
1932 ford
MrObsessive replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Bill, I was using Tamiya water based acrylics almost exclusively as far back as the late '80's. It was pulled off the market for some reason in the early '90's, then returned. I will say there WAS a change, in their formula where you could go to any hardware store, and use denatured alcohol from the shelf to thin their X-22 for instance. When it returned to the U.S. market, I tried to use the denatured alcohol to thin the X-22...........and I got terrible fisheyes. Went to use their thinner, and no problem. So that might have been one of the changes. -

A dehydrator is the key to getting the Tamiya X-22 to dry rock hard. Also I've found that you need to use their thinner and nothing else to get good results. At least that's what has work for me................. -

You can click here for the direct link to Dave's tutorial-------in case it's get's pushed down by all the new threads in the general section. VERY good tutorial Dave for those using rattlecans! I picked up a few things myself, even though I'm and avid airbrusher! -
Both the ZR-1 and the Grand Sport are no brainers! We'll see, but as tight as money is today with the model companies, we might AS WELL be making our own from scratch!

My BIGGEST pet peeve on the road are Left Lane Bandits!! Folks who think because it's a lane they have the right to hold everyone else up! Pennsylvania finally passed a law a few years ago making this illegal! -

I've actually seen 4 car pileups at intersections because everyone decided it was their "turn". Talk about embarrassing!
