  1. I wish YouTube had been around in the mid '80's when I had my '71. That was THE MOST troublesome car I've ever owned before or since! It ran good when it ran...........but there was the constant adjusting this or replacing that! After six months of owning the car, and winter closing in fast, I decided to let it go. It was a daily driver for me as I was going to school then------I was warned when I bought it to have another one to go with it! I'd love one today, not as a daily driver, but for the occasional nice ride as it was a blast to drive----------when it ran right! Peter, I absolutely LOVE the resto on your 1:1! Why MG had to slap that ugly duckling bumper on the '75's and later I'll never know. U.S. regs notwithstanding, they could have come up with something better than that! The model you're building..............does the engine come with the kit, or is it a curbside? If it's curbside, which engine are you using? Looks to be a fun project!
  2. Rob, I've had my named pronounced "Gairy" (like air) or like the name Gary. I've gotten to the point in recent years when I've had people ask me to spell my last name over the phone, to say "G as in George, E-A-R-Y." That way they hear the "G" separately, and I don't get mail with my name spelled "GARY" or "GRAY". I've found folks here in the northeast say my last name correctly 99% of the time.............the ones down south? Well........... I say just like a gear in car with a "Y" on the end.........
  3. Hmmm...............you ought to hear how folks pronounce "Geary".
  4. Yeah Mark, they have a feedback of 100% so I'm sure it shouldn't be a problem. I have something on there currently, and I should revise it like you mentioned and add that little "clause".
  5. Okay it must have been an e-check then because I just won a set of decals this morning, and PayPal shows that they've already received the payment. I paid via Visa BTW................ It's no big deal----if they happen to email me wondering where it is, I'll just tell 'em that I don't send things out 'til I get paid. They probably already know that as they had a feedback of 100+.
  6. Thanks for the compliment Tom! The rivets I got from a local train shop called Tommy Gilberts in Gettysburg, PA. I remember drilling the holes and painting (rubbed out and polished) before putting the rivets in. Since the rivets were so tiny, they were simply brush painted (a little dot really ), let dry sufficiently, and then put in the body. As Art mentioned, Scale Hardware are good folks to deal with as I've gotten threaded nuts and bolts, as well as simulated rivets from them as well. The rivets make for good "pinning" of things such as hangers for brackets in engine or chassis detail. Since they're brass, they'll be sturdier for a little stress in those areas and not break like the plastic ones may.
  7. Okay folks, here's the scoop......... I sold something on eBay just this past Sunday, the person paid via PayPal (per eBay's rules now), and the payment has yet to drop into my account. It's showing the account as "pending" or "in process". Here's the dilemma------should I go ahead and send the item anyway or should I wait until the payment has cleared in my account before sending it off? How long does PayPal "hold" money before releasing it to the seller? I've sold before on the 'Bay, but also remember being paid immediately the minute I noticed payment had been made. Thanks in advance for your answers fellas............and PLEASE, don't turn this into a PayPal bashing thread or it gets the 'ol yankola!
  8. Tichy Train Group also does some fine rivets in plastic at a very reasonable price. .5" rivets for a 1/24-1/25 model is awfully big! Here's a pic of the side and bottom of my D-Type Jag where I wanted rivets in the panels. The fun part-----------you'll need to drill each and every hole to get the rivets to stay as each one is on a tiny stem. Hey! They don't call me Mr. Obsessive for nothin'! My rivets here are roughly .020" dia. and to me they look in scale according to the 1:1. I used Tamiya clear acrylic to "glue" each one as opposed to messy epoxy which is a bit much for something this tiny. Hope this helps!
  9. Well, I've seen some fantastic paint jobs, but that knocks it out of the park!! Of course, I'm biased to factory stock------and I see one beautiful paint job there! Keep up the great work!!
  10. Well I was around in 1969 and I can tell you that there were a whole variety of vehicles that were on the road then. From brand new GTO Judges, Roadrunners and Javelin SST 390's to early '60's Corvairs and Ramblers, to mid '50's Detroit iron I can definitely remember seeing. You also had your VW's which were everywhere, and also your oddball import such as Renaults, Peugeots, Volvos, Saabs, etc. In searching my childhood memory, I'd say the streets were more interesting to look at then as opposed to now as you weren't bombarded with every other vehicle being a truck or SUV like now.
  11. ...................and here's some more!
  12. Ryan, I put your photos in my Fotki album........hope you don't mind but your work is too EXCELLENT to hide behind a link! Here ya go............ You've got the weathering nailed on this one Ryan! This is just how I saw a LOT of '57 Chevy's as a high schooler in the mid-late '70's!
  13. I've only been entering shows since about '96 or so. Back in 2001, the '55 D-Jag I built won the Super September Showdown here in PA. For best of show, I won $100 given to me by one of the sponsors!! I was really surprised as there was NO mention of money being part of the deal! It wouldn't have mattered to me one way or another, just the surprise factor is what tickled me. Maybe that's what needs to happen.......instead of folks knowing about it ahead of time, spring it on 'em when they win!
  14. One product and one product only I use: Meguiar's Car Cleaner Wax. Been using it for 20+ years (same bottle BTW) and have had nary a problem ever! My work speaks for itself.
  15. I don't know if you tried this, but eBay Motors is a great source to find pics of all types of cars. Generally the more expensive the car, the more (and better) photos they will have to show. Check the link below for a whole page of '68 F-Birds on auction.............. http://snipurl.com/nuznu You can always check completed auctions too for pics if those listed aren't to your liking. Hope this helps!
  16. I hear ya Bob! It CAN be addictive! I joined initially because I have a 30 year class reunion coming up------folks I haven't seen since high school I've run into via Facebook..........so it's a neat way to catch up!
  17. Stunning job on that Ron!! .............And now I know the answer to something I've been wondering-----would the newer tool '62 fit under those older T-Birds? Your beautiful example says yes! I've got a '61 Promo(?) and a restorable '64 that could use this.
  18. Here's a D-Jag I built years ago using Krylon primer and topcoat. The primer IIRC, was their sandable black and the topcoat was their Hunter Green with black mixed in to get the hue I wanted. NO clear coat whatsoever was used!..............Just simply rubbed out and polished.
  19. You don't have to cut Future with anything. It can airbrush right out of the bottle. I recommend though having a lower pressure than normal and quicker passes when spraying it as it can run pretty fast. I normally spray around 20 PSI-------I'll cut it down to around 12 or so with the Future. Since I use strictly automotive paints, I've sprayed it directly on the bare plastic with no ill effects. Especially the newer kits coming from Revell and AMT and their "softer" plastic, have I done this.
  20. No, I haven't looked into them..............they're kind of a long lost name-----haven't heard about them in a while! They would have had the correct offset though as the wheels on the 1:1 Cougar were the same type as those on the MGB's. Thanks for all the nice words guys! Got the doors epoxied on the hinges yesterday, and the dash is now in. I'm going to try and get everything buttoned up in the next couple weeks as it's the little stuff that needs to be done now.
  21. I wouldn't write off the kit based on what SMS says...........having the kit up close and personal in my house, I can tell you it's worth the money to have! Yes, it does take time to do this one right as Bob said, but one of the reasons I bought the kit is because I absolutely love this era of racers.......especially the GT40's. As Bob also said, it would be nice if someone did a step by step out of box build of the car to see where the foibles are. If fortunes turn my way in the coming months, I may buy another and do just that. By that time the price may have come down somewhat and it won't be as ouch inducing to buy one. Just my 2¢ FWIW.........
  22. See I told ya Bro! Man, that is gonna be super killer once you get that in!! A for sure show stopper that one!
  23. George, I'd rather be on the inside lookin' out when it snows! In fact a long standing desire of mine is to retire to Puerto Rico where I KNOW it won't snow! But then there are those hurricanes to deal with.............
  24. I'm with ya there Jon about the cool summer! Here in South Central PA, it's usually in the '90's with the humidity being super brutal. Those on the board that live here and south know how nasty hot it can get here............there's no such thing as "dry heat"! It's only been in the mid '80's so far this summer with tolerable humidity--------we still have August and September to deal with though. Nor'easters have walloped this area in the past which make the winter months for me very annoying! I've come to hate snow, simply because I hate shoveling it!
  25. Well, I got a nice big box from Mr. Postman not long after I got home from work this morning. Yup, this fine kit is now in a good home-------and I'm VERY impressed! I haven't even check all the parts out yet as there's so many. Some things do need to be dechromed though............. The body is absolutely perfect IMO and I love how they packaged it! This one's definitely a keeper, but don't ask when I'll be able to build it! I've got something else planned after the Cougar II, but no big scale on the agenda.
