I like them all..........but especially that Studebaker!! When oh when are they going to reissue this gem of a kit??
-
Very nice!! It would be nice to see this one kitted along with the '62 Bel Air bubbletop!
-
Lee, great job on that GTO......and at least you finished yours! I tried (and failed) to build a superdetailed GTO years ago, but never could get it the way I wanted it. Since then the windows have warped badly, so now I'm contemplating taking the whole thing apart and redoing it.

Bingo! I originally answered him with a link in this post here, but apparently the very good advice didn't sink in. Yet another name to add to my ignore list!

Winter is here...and it sucks
MrObsessive replied to VW Dave's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm not a fan of snow either! Yeah it looks all nice and cutesy when you're on the inside, but having to drive in it or deal with simple neighbors when you have to shovel it is another matter! The last house I lived in could be a challenge when it came to snow because of where it was. I lived on a "private" road, meaning that when it snowed, the Borough would not plow our road! We literally had to dig ourselves out if it got really bad. There were three other houses on that road, so we all had to do the work of the borough Here's a pic of one winter in the last place........this was taken about 4 years ago. This isn't too bad compared to other times............. The Mitsubishi's long gone now------one neat thing about that car was with those skinny tires, it could plow through almost anything! -

MrObsessive replied to Tom Kren's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I just did a LOUD GUFFAW when I saw that!!! I've definitely bookmarked that one!! -
He may be talking about Ken Hamilton, but I don't know if Ken is from Springfield, MO. Ken's been doing working stuff long before I got into it--------he's the one that I got my working windows idea from, as I saw that on one of his models back in 1987! I don't know if Ken posts here, but he does post from time to time on the Spotlight Hobbies message board. (Formerly Hobby Heaven)

Whaaa?? You thought this was about weight loss?? Surely you jest! No, I've been in sort of modeling slump of late............happens from time to time! A while ago when I was moving stuff out of the basement, I ran across this little gem of a kit I almost forgot I had------a resin BBR 1/43 scale kit of the '56 Ferrari 250 GT LWB. I thought why not try to build this little bugger..........I know I've had it for at least 5 or 6 years now! One of the things I remember about why I didn't build this sooner is BBR jokingly gives you a flat piece of acetate to make the windows. While the front window would have been no problem, this compound curve rear window was another story-----especially in this scale. Nevertheless, I wanted something to kick start my building, so I cleaned up the body and soaked 'er in Easy Off to get rid of the oils, and started to paint. I started with Plasticote Gray as a primer, let it dry thoroughly and then sanded it out with a 600 grit sandpaper. This was followed up by several coats of Krylon Banner Red, and put in the dehydrator for about 8 hours. This was then rubbed out and waxed as the following pics will show................... Another nit I have with the kit is there is no window trim molded onto the body. BBR has a PE set for the front and rear window trim, but it was so cantankerous to get to shape, not to mention the contours were not quite correct, so I freehanded the BMF around the window openings. Now about those windows------This was a first time trying this so now was a good time as any. I made window bucks out of Balsa wood, clear coated the heck out of 'em and "molded" plastic over them. The clear was polished out as well as I could get it. The "glass" was formed using Squadron Thermoform-------it only took six tries to get the rear glass the way I wanted it. The front only a couple times................. The rear glass has a couple tiny "waves" in it, but I'm satisfied with it. Still need to get the interior and chassis together, I have the interior tub in primer right now, and I may try to get working on it again before it's off to bed to go to work tonight. More later..........

Microsol and Microset or good products............I've used 'em in the past to get stubborn decals to stay put. Jim I think this is the link you wanted to post.............. Microscale

More than just a Trophy / Dreams come True
MrObsessive replied to Barbo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
WOW!! That's great to hear Miguel! In this time of layoffs and other dismal news.............it's great to see your dreams coming to fruition! -
Super Sharp!! That color suits that body style well! Very nice and clean!
-
Agreed Peter! I had my mind set on this kit, but we just had a round of layoffs on my job. They tell us the round of layoffs are done for now, but I'm not so sure I'll be there six months from now. I DO like this car though so I may try to start saving now..............although I would like to have seen a MK IV like you mentioned. Even nicer would have been an accurate 1/24-25 scale Shelby Daytona coupe. In this large scale would have been icing on the cake! I suspect though that this kit will sell north of $150..............too high of a price in these times.

Same here.............great pics, but you're better off looking at it through IE. ..........And I have the highest speed DSL from Verizon, and I'm running Vista------it still gave my Mozilla browser fits!

how di i wire a distributor ?
MrObsessive replied to diymirage's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I echo what George said. What I like to do is make the hole just big enough for the wire to slip through.........not sloppy big as it will have a tendency to slip out as you've described. I also like to put the super glue on the very end of the wire, and not the hole. I've found the hole gets too plugged up quickly if you delay in getting the wire through fast enough. Bead wire (found at craft stores) works great for me when applying super glue............I'll then follow this up with a skiff of Zap-A-Gap to speed the hardening up. I too use prewired distibutors..........they're much less crazy making than trying to drill the distibutors. For plug boots, (and dist. boots) you can use the insulation off your battery cable wires for that. Here's pic of an old Ferrari I built years ago................this was a case of having to drill the holes in the distributors on my own, and a number of drill pricks was well felt! As you get practiced in doing this...........wiring engines will be a piece of cake! -
Revell Discontinuing NASCAR Model Kits
MrObsessive replied to larrygre's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well I'm no NASCAR fan by any means (and also no sports fan at all!)...............they lost me sometime in the '70's when what they were racing had no relevance whatsoever with the real world. At least in the old days, what you saw racing you could just about get on the street at your local Chevy, Ford, or Chrysler store. It got really nasty in the late '80's/into the '90's when they started to use cars that weren't even RWD. When has the Taurus ever been RWD?? As Peter said............with a lot of cutbacks everywhere it's only a matter of time before the salary purses will drop too as they just won't have the money to pay those outrageous salaries. I'm not in favor of class envy as far as who earns what.......it's the arrogance that can be behind all that money that kills me. Revell did the right thing IMO------no way are they going to pay crazy royalties to an organization that has been constantly raping the fans and others for too many years now. I say good riddance.................As James said, maybe we'll see some more never run car models with the extra money they might save. Maybe............ -
Real or Model #67 FINISHED!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Hmmm..............nice one Harry! That looks like a '55 Mercedes race car transporter...........Something about the inside windshield posts say real to me.......... But I could be wrong-------that's a tough one! -
What's your "unicorn?"
MrObsessive replied to FactoryStock54's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I always thought that the finished product sat too high off the ground. That's a problem that plagues a lot of Revell/Monogram kits. It's like they overcompensate for the suspensions to make sure the model doesn't have a tight fit? -
Love the wheels and stance Brian! They're perfect for it! This is one of those kits IMO that'll never grow old, because so much can be done with it. That says a lot about the car..............Good design never goes out of style!

Model building at another scale
MrObsessive replied to Barbo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
And they say I'm Obsessive! Miguel, those look great! Don't sneeze though, because you'll lose those little beauties for good! -
Since we know it was a diecast...........they obviously were custom made by them. Or tampo printed............

how do i change a vinyl top to steel ?
MrObsessive replied to diymirage's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
If I were you, I'd brush on some liquid glue one section at a time on the roof because the solvents of the paint may cause the "vinyl" to show up once again. What you want to do is sand the section smooth, then brush on your liquid glue. Once the glue has dried, you'll see the vinyl "imprint" show up again. Now you want to sand away this area once more. What you're doing is getting rid of the "memory" of the plastic as liquid glue is the hottest solvent out there. Lacquer paint would be the next hottest. This tip is great also for getting rid of scripts and trim if you're into customizing------I've got this tip from Ted "Chopper" Lear, and it's worked great for me. This can take a while to do..........but the effort is worth it. -
