Lincoln LSC Pro Street Question
MrObsessive replied to James Flowers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
James I have this kit also and was thinking on doing the same conversion down the road. All American Models did one in resin years ago, but they're as scarce as hens teeth, and if you do find one on eBay for instance-------expect to pay mega $$$$$!! As far as a chassis, I would probably use the one out of the Monogram 1987 Thunderbird as those cars shared a lot of chassis components during those years. Some tweaking would be necessary to suit the Lincoln. An engine could be cribbed out of one of the Fox Mustang kits for an LSC for example. Likewise the rear seats could be modified to the pattern of whatever particular year Mark VII you want do. The kit already has the front seats and dash so that's no problem. One big area of concern is the shape of the body itself and the proportions. The wheelbase needs to be lengthened, especially aft of the doors, and it seems the trunk should be made a scooch longer to boot. Here's a pic that I saved off the board a while back when the subject of Mark VII's came up before. I'm not sure who built this one, but it's a nice job! I'm not sure if they converted the kit, or used AAM's resin kit. -
It was good seein' you again Rick! Hopefully it won't be another 5 years before I can get there again!

That looks great Simón............and looks accurate for a 356 Porsche. -
Sad News... Bob Paeth
MrObsessive replied to cruzn's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Wow, such sad news! I got to meet Bob for the first time at the GSL last year.........he and I had a nice and long conversation, and he gave me some pointers on my about to be started again '55 Ford. We're about to lose another one of the great pioneers in this hobby. -
I have a Badger Crescendo and had this same problem a while back. Yes, it sounds like the needle bearing is worn out..............Badger recommends sending in the body of the airbrush to replace the bearing. Do you feel any resistance when taking the needle out? If not, the bearing is worn. I've replaced the bearing on my own------the trick is to find some stiff metal rod just under the inside diameter of the bore of the needle bearing space. Gently push out the bearing from the rear of the body. When you replace the bearing, put the bearing in from the front of the body and you should be able to feel the bearing "seat" itself. You may not be comfortable doing this so I would recommend sending it in------but that's most likely the problem. If you go ahead and do this..........I would order several so you have them on hand...........this is fairly common for them to go bad after a while. One tip I recommend when you clean your airbrush is to remove the needle from the front of the body, and when inserting it, insert it from the rear. This will help the needle bearing keep its shape and wearing out prematurely. Hope this helps!

Yep, He's ANOTHER year older!
MrObsessive replied to george 53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the well wishes guys! If you would have asked me about reaching 47 when I was 17, I couldn't have imagined it! Let alone building models! Getting to Toledo this year was a nice enough birthday present for me as I got to meet again some great folks like Tom Kren, you George for the first time, Albert Wallace, (Hadn't seen him in years!). Albert's got some neat pics he took if he's willin' to share 'em! You do too George! -
Toledo! YESSSSSS!!!!!!
MrObsessive replied to george 53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
George it was great to finally meet you and I had a blast!! I just got in an hour ago---------------Actually I'm quite far from Pittsburgh (about 3½ hours east of there). I left Toledo around 10:00 this morning and got in around 5:45. That's not too bad considering I stopped to eat, get gas, bathroom breaks, etc............ It was also great to meet Mr Biggs, Mr 1/16th.........and a host of others I hadn't seen in quite some time. George's right fellas!..............If you're in the midwest, you GOTTA make the trip at least once to Toledo! You'll never regret it! -
I'm not much into lowriders, but that IS nice!! I also like the car itself as I'm a big fan of all GM '64 B-Bodies. Revell is about the only one to get that '64 2 door hardtop roofline correct.

I'm new to here
MrObsessive replied to gtlm2000's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Welcome GTLM! As the others have said..........if you've got any questions, just ask away. Please don't feel any question is too dumb to ask! If you have any projects going on, post pics too! -
Very nice!! The stance is spot on! I built one many years ago, but in the traditional white body/blue stripes. It would be 1/24 scale as it was based on their original 1985 tooling of the '65 Shelby GT350.

Hmmm.......thanks for the heads up Jairus! I was just about to fill those outlets with putty.............glad you told me that! I can shape some thick plastic to fill the exhaust, glue, then superglue for a sure tight fill.

35,000+ hits?? You guys really liked this one! Don't worry I haven't abandoned it..........just had it on hiatus for a while. Today I was soldering up pedals (forgot to take pics! ) and starting to put them in the dash. Hopefully, I'll try to get the dash put in permanently and whatnot, but with Toledo coming up in a few days, not much will get done to it. It will be there up on wheels, but not completed though. Chrome's gotta be sent out after I modify the rear bumper, then I can finally call this one done.

I'll be 47 as of Friday (treating myself to Toledo! )........my mom and dad are 68 and 75 respectively and they've never thought that about my hobby. They tried to get me into it when I was 7 but I was having none of it. I wanted the Hot Wheels instead! In fact my dad kinda embarrasses me when he brags about me to his friends (His age and older), whenever we have a get-together at his house. So he surely doesn't think it's me "playing with toys"!
-
Welcome Jürgen!! Your english is great, and your Camaro is FANTASTIC!! Paint, stance, finish look top notch to me! Those are some mighty fancy wheels............whose are they?? I've not seen them before!

To expand on what Jairus said...........DO NOT USE TUBE GLUE FOR WINDOWS!! You'll definitely get a smear (or fogging) and you'll have a heck of time getting rid of it because of the solvents in liquid or tube glue which is deadly to clear styrene! As Jairus said, 5 min epoxy is great for windows..........some guys have used something called "Krystal Klear" which is a type of white glue. This is good stuff for flat windows, but if their of the compound curve type of the late '50's early '60's, you'll want something stronger. There is another type of white glue that some guys use which is stronger................but I can't think of the name of it at the moment............. I'm pretty messy when it comes to putting in windows, but I go a step further and make my own windows using clear stencil sheet where it's practical. I use the 5 min epoxy.........but they come out like this when I get them in.................... After some cleanup with alcohol, they come out like this.............. More work yes, but I've got windows that won't pop out with stress, and the optical clarity of clear stencil sheet can't be beat! HTH!

Your welcome Greg! That definitely looks better...............just like the 1:1 now! I know it can be a pain (read: my '55 Ford! ).........but correct rooflines to me are paramount since that's what gets seen first when looking at a car from a side profile. You could say it's the car's "signature"............. Now if only RC2 would have put as much attention to their offerings.............(ahem........'58 Belvedere...ahem......) as you did into your roofline, there'd be much happier modelers out here!
-
That's a Spanish ad for sure.........something about a safe/reliable car................by 1969 standards!
-
Looks GREAT Luis! I like the color, and I like the full "targa" look of the roof without the "T" bar.

Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona 'Early Version'
MrObsessive replied to The Creative Explorer's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Lookin' good so far Erik! Seeing all that putty on the hood reminded me of the one bugaboo I had when I had mine all painted up-------a lot of the underhood detail shows up on the topside unfortunately. I thought they may have cleaned up the molds a bit by now, but apparently not! Engine details are lookin' great...............the plug wires are perfect! Sorry to hear about your job situation........... We were just told on my job Friday that mandatory furloughs are pretty much expected through the end of the year, with complete shutdowns during the week of Thanksgiving and Christmas. The furloughs involve taking at least 1 week off a month through year's end............I expected it as things are slowing down all over, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it! -
Ooooooh Yeah!! That fish and Plátanos were outta site!! Hmmm.....now that I remember the waitress was nice lookin' too------kinda flirty IIRC!
-
Hey guys! If any of the CPMCC guys or the MAMA's boys want a ride to Toledo and are able to split the cost of the rooms and gas................ drop me a PM and I'll give you the details. Thanks!

Ladies and Gentlemen: My 1933 Chrysler Imperial Indy Pace Car
MrObsessive replied to ismaelg's topic in Model Cars
Ismael, that is over the top! Everything about it is perfect! I agree with Randy, sometime you gotta come up north to our NNL East so everyone can see this masterpiece! -
Beautiful work Daniel! Super clean! The wood grain is a nice touch, and it's got a perfect stance!
-
What a nice cutesy little car Randy! I love the paint and details! I have a kit of the 1/12 Tamiya ones................just dug out of the basement after a near miss with a wet floor from the heavy rains a few weeks ago. ............And yes Harry, you'd never think it was 1/12 as tiny as that car is!!
