Real or Model #53 FINISHED!
MrObsessive replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
Hey I got that one right! I wonder if they had this website in mind when they did this car. Or maybe it's the other way around if the website came later? -
Working (not posable) Steering
MrObsessive replied to torinobradley's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
They played with my windows at Toledo and GSL Jairus! .................And they're still working after all these years! My philosophy when it comes to working features is to make a model that looks like any other normal model sitting there............nice paint and detailing------but then hit 'em with the "gotcha" factor when it has all the working stuff that wouldn't be known. And it's got to be in scale! But 'tis true that it can become cumbersome along the way which is why I don't get much into super working detail as in previous years. Like you said, as much if not more (depends on the model and builder) impact can be made by a very nicely finished model with no obvious flaws. Proof positive of this is anything built by Juha Airio------he does not have opening doors or working features that I've seen, but his models are super squeaky clean, even though a lot of them are heavily modified especially when it's something that's never been done before! -
Working (not posable) Steering
MrObsessive replied to torinobradley's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
IIRC, I soldered a tiny brass screw onto a brass shaft for a worm gear..........the watch gear was soldered to the pitman arm. The whole works was "sandwiched" in a scratchbuilt plastic gear box using a '57 Corvette assembly manual. Details are a little fuzzy now how I did this as this was back in 2001. -
Working (not posable) Steering
MrObsessive replied to torinobradley's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I tried this on my '57 Corvette years ago, and while it DID work-----the problem was keeping the gears meshed without skipping. I eventually gave up on the idea as the box eventually quit working. The steering turned like the 1:1 with the correct turns lock to lock, but this was the first time I tried it and the gear fit was too sloppy to keep working. Those that saw this while it was a WIP can vouch for the steering box working. I did use watch gears----mostly from a bunch of gears I got off eBay, and yes, they can be pricey! A shop manual will help greatly to give you a guide as to how the box is shaped, and also how the tie rod ends will go, pitman arm, etc. As others have said.........tiny gears are the way to go, but I gotta warn ya----------it's VERY time consuming to get everything to mesh correctly and to make the steering gear box small enough in scale for the model you're working on. Here's a pic albeit a bit small, of the steering gear box when the 'Vette was still in many pieces...........Sorry I don't have any in progress pics during building the steering box-------The pic was taken by a club member as this was long before I got a digital camera, and the pic was scanned. -
Another mysterious engine????
MrObsessive replied to Art Anderson's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ahhh.........So my first guess was right! At least with the make.........Ford seemed to have a certain trademark "look" with the way they did their engine bays back then. The way the shock towers sit so high and those inner fender braces.......... -

On second thought.............I see a sticker that may denote a rotary. So is it some sort of vintage Mazda? -

The shock towers and inner fender braces kinda say Ford, but I'm not sure............ -
That's great Izzy! My Mom and Dad tried to get me into models when they got me my first ones on Christmas of 1968. In fact I was 7 myself but I just didn't like 'em! One BIG factor that got in the way, were those neat little diecast cars intro'd that year called Hot Wheels and I was hooked! In fact I still am! It's great he's startin' now before real cars and girls might get in the way. He's got a liking to them now so if that happens he'll come back to it.

Heres the Chassis
MrObsessive replied to Berk765's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
George you know as they say.............."Practice makes perfect!" Really it's very easy-----once you get to know and practice the outlay of the board it's really quite simple. I like the features on this board better than most because I can edit posts and pics, change colors and sizes on fonts, and snip URL's for links if they're too long. At least for me, it's more user friendly than other boards which are loaded with too much "junk" IMO. -

You forgot a bracket in the first IMG. It should be [ IMG ] on the beginning of the URL and a [ /IMG ] at the end. (No spaces between the brackets) If you're using the image button on the text box, you won't need the -
I hope I did this right.

Here's your pic............drop the tags from your Photobucket URL if you're using the image button on your text box. It includes them for you. Nice job! Like the overspray! -
Gregg's Monterey 2008 Pics

Hmmm.......Got thong?? -
Nice little model there! These have all but disappeared from U.S. roads! I thought I read somewhere that Honda was bringing back the CRX..........albeit a bit more modern for today's tastes. It's too bad they discontinued the original model--------the Del Sol just wasn't "it"!

Nice job as usual Jonathan! I wonder how hard this would be to kitbash the '67 Mustang chassis underneath this and put a 260/289 in it? This was basically a spinoff of the '60 Falcon in which the floorpan was used for the later Mustang.

Gregg's Monterey 2008 Pics
MrObsessive replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
FANTASTIC pics Gregg!! Those Testarossa shots are terrific! I saved all that you took------will come in handy down the road! Also you got good pics of another '50's favorite of mine.............a Maserati 450S which I've never seen really good close up engine photos of. Thanks! BTW, was the obnoxious girl pretty? If not, I would have told her off anyway! -
Now that is some great box art!! Nice and bright artwork, and a good representation of what's in the box! Let's just hope Trumpeter gets it right and doesn't screw this one up! For what they might be charging (I'm guessing north of $150) they'd better get it right! Maybe if we're (and they) are good we'll get a '69 LeMans winner car out of 'em?

I was being nosy on the "other board" for a second and the first post I had seen caught my eye about new box art for the soon to be rereleased '60 Ford. It was done by our own Jairus Watson, and I've got to say he totally outdid himself! This is one of the nicest box art designs I have seen in a loooong time! If this doesn't move the plastic off the shelves.......nothing will! Thanks Jairus, this is just the shot in the arm AMT needs! I'm going to buy one simply for the box art alone......it's THAT good!

One of the most beautiful shapes ever to come out of Italy! (besides Sophia Loren! ) That is one fine lookin' machine Randy! I should put mine back together sometime as that is one of Fujimi's "easier" kits!
