  1. Mark, just a couple days ago, I primered the fender skirts for the '55 Ford which were from The Modelhaus. I first cleaned them with the Easy Off which I let sit overnight, and them primered them. The paint has not flaked off as I had to sand them down a little and sometime in a couple days I'll be color coating them. IIRC, the Modelhaus '61 Cadillac I did I first cleaned up with Easy Off, and you've seen how that turned out after I painted and polished it. The way Easy Off takes out the nastiest of grimy ovens, mold release should be no match for it!
  2. It's either one at a particular moment Mark..................I like using the Easy Off a little better between the two though. Yeah, it's harsher stuff, but like Listerine for bad breath, I know it'll get the job done!
  3. Great Pics Tom! I wish we had some more info about this beauty here!............. That's a model of the Cadillac Voyage Concept Car from 1988. It looks like they used the Revell Caprice as a starting point, but I'd like to see the technique used for that rear glass! Interesingly, Chevy would use this very car as a the basis for the '91 Caprice.............and Cadillac did have in the works this car as the showcase for a new V-12 that unfortunately never saw the light of day.
  4. To add some more fuel to this thread............. I used Dawn Dish Detergent as well as Easy Off Oven Cleaner (Yellow Can) as Bob mentioned for removing mold release. One thing I've found with some resin bodies is that if they need to be reshaped by heating under hot water, it's best not to wash them again in the hot water as the resin can have a "memory" and go back to what it was. I learned this on a Lemans Miniature GT40 that just wouldn't cooperate until I realized what I was doing wrong. It took the Modelhaus '61 Caddy to make me figure this out, so the GT40 may be back on the worktable once again....................maybe! Also if you have to sand an area to be repainted for some reason, it might be a good idea to reclean that area as the oils from the resin may have leached through to the surface making painting a nightmare! Mark, in reference to your '57 Pontiac Safari you mentioned about the wheelbase being identical to the '55 Nomad. If memory serves me, I think the Pontiac should have a bit longer wheelbase than the Nomad. IIRC, the Safari had a longer dash to front wheelbase distance than the Nomad, but I haven't seen the model. It's no big deal in scale as it's a couple scale inches but you know me and my "Obsessiveness"!
  5. WOW!! A Datsun!! Very Cool!! Carlo did an EXCELLENT job mastering that one! I remember those very well from my high school days back in the '70's! Ariel, are there going to be plated parts also?
  6. Hey Cruz! See what you made me do?? I'm so impressed with what you're doing with your 'Cuda that I just went and bought one off the 'Bay a few minutes ago! Yes, I scored one just like yours, but the HSO ("Hobby Shop Only") version put out by Testors, ..............the same Johan tooling. When will I build it?.............Well..................
  7. See?? Ain't you glad you listened to me? I told ya that the Johan 'Cuda is the most accurate one of that body style, with the MPC one coming in a close second IMO. As far as color? How 'bout "Lemon Twist"...................that'll get the attention!
  8. Wow Luis! I'm sorry to hear that! You sold that beautiful '53 Ford?? I think I'd never get over having to sell some of the stuff I've built over the years! Just the same, I'm glad things are gettin' back on track! Things are slow where I'm working right now.............we have work, but it's not like it was even 6 months ago. They haven't laid off folks, but they're asking us to take voluntary furloughs. The highboy looks fantastic! Sometime as a diversion, I need to try my hand at a street rod. Glad to see you're back here posting again!
  9. Cruz, that's a real Beaut! I really like the first gen 1:1 Miatas although they're a tight fit in the shoulders for me! The new gen doesn't do much for me..........seems as though it lost some of its "purity". I'll betcha I can fit into one of those however!
  10. Great Projects! I especially like the California Spyder you're doing! Interesting about the front wheelwells on the Tamiya 360 Modena.............I never noticed that the shape wasn't quite right on the kit. What kind of putty are you using? I'm used to seeing the blue/green stuff I always use!
  11. Thanks for the info Larry! I don't have the coupe, but I'm glad it's the Enthusiast Series reissue! That one could be a bit fiddly, but builds into an absolutely gorgeous model! It was the Spyder I originally built that seems to be among the missing now. No, I couldn't make it to the NNL this year................My mind said yes, but my bank account said no. I could've gone, but I don't like going to shows when you can't buy anything, or you can't eat out anywhere because you're basically flat broke.
  12. Yeah, it's pretty much the same..............Interestingly, I don't think I've ever beat that one in Cracker Barrel! This one on the 'net had me stumped for a while------I'll tell you that there are at least a couple ways one could win..............
  13. Greg, you make great points! I'm old enough to remember the nasty gas crisis of 1979-80 when gas had cost as much as today adjusted for inflation. To be fair I seem to remember a different political party running the show back then? Throw in the fact that we haven't built a refinery since the mid '70's due to wacko environmentalism and that's one of the big reasons why we're where we are today. And don't get me started on why we're not drilling for our own oil right here in this country! And yes, one can't deny the fact that the schools don't teach the way they used to..........if they did, most young folks should already know the dynamics of supply and demand. I knew about that as a sixth grader! BTW, my Dad came from a family of 19 (!) and there isn't a dumb one in the bunch!
  14. Nice work Nick! From the 1:1 pics I have seen of the production car, it's too bad it won't be a pillarless hardtop like yours. I hope one comes in the color you picked for the paint-------that's especially nice!
  15. A most compelling reason why I've never married!!
  16. Welcome to the board Mitchell! ALL of those are very impressive, and I especially loooove this little gem here!! One of my favorite Porsches ever!
  17. Wow!! Great news about the Ferrari's!! I'm wondering though if the 250 is the Series I or the later rarer Series II car? Either way I wanna get one! Also is the Dino the closed car, or the Spyder with the lift off roof? I built a Fujimi one with the million parts back in the '80's but disassembled it years ago, and now don't know where it is! And yes Izzy, I had hoped not to spend so much on models this year, but that looks not to be the case now...............
  18. Thought I'd post this to see if you can figure it out.................it took me a little bit but it can be done! Have fun!
  19. Yes! On my end it's much faster now! If it keeps at this speed...........no need to spend extra bucks when this one is working fine now. I still think that some old topics could be purged------just to lighten the load perhaps on the server. Thanks Gregg!
  20. That's news to me too! I have an unbuilt one as well...............although the engine was started. And yes, Dale's right.............it is one of THE best kits Tamiya's ever done!
  21. Yup..............I complained about that in another post a couple weeks ago. It's to the point where I'm not on here for long because the slow wait time is too dang frustrasting. I'm not one to complain about much but geeeeezzzzz..............
  22. Beautiful paint Brian! That looks to be the right shade of Ferrari Red for that era. Seems as though the Ferrari's out of the '50's were more of a Tomato Red and not as "Orangey" as the later ones.
  23. Nice! I've seen several versions of 375's but I've not seen one with the blanked out wraparound rear glass. Gives the car an interesting look!
  24. Modelhaus lists several...............you can check 'em here. They're neat little cars..........my Dad tried to buy my Mom a new one in '62, but she didn't like it because there were no automatics and she couldn't drive a stick! At least that's the story I was told............
  25. I love both the Camaro and the Challenger, but my only problem with 'em is that they're not true hardtops like the concepts. Thank the safety nazi's and a litigious society for that! I'd still consider one (especially the Camaro) when I'm looking for a fun rear drive coupe again..............but I want to see the convertible!
