  1. Beautiful!! That should be worth buying just for the box art alone!!
  2. Now I can see 'em! Great Concept Roberto! That's gonna be extra cool when done!
  3. Ditto what everyone else is saying Randy! That is gonna be extra nice with that color! I'm gonna sound the siren too about making sure you have enough coats of clear before you rub it out. Clears tend to shrink more than other paints, so while it may look nice and glossy, the coats themselves are a little thinner than your color coats. For my benefit, I don't wet sand clears with polishing cloths................water tends to "hide" the progress with the clear making it difficult for me to tell how much I'm taking off. Just a little caveat!
  4. I can't see 'em either! Remember Guys and Gals............if you're posting pics from Fokti, you MUST use the "Share Photo" URL! Fotki has changed their hosting capabilties (without letting anyone know) as far as posting pics on web sites. If you simply right click on your pics to get the URL properties and use that.................trust me, the photos will disappear after a few hours! Hope this helps! I wanna see the truck!
  5. Yes, if your somewhat of a beginner, I highly recommend taking one or two steps at a time! Like you, I once found engine detailing daunting, but like anything else with practice, comes perfection. I work with electronics, so I have some access to different size wire we throw out for scrap. At times though what I have isn't quite right for the appearance I want in scale, so I'll resort to the aftermarket to get what I need. When your skills get proficient enough, you might want to consider purchasing a used shop manual to see exactly where all the nuts and bolts and such go. That's what I used to detail this '58 Chevy Impala motor.................... While this took a while to build...............I looked at each assembly as a kit in itself...............then it didn't seem so bad! As always, take your time! No need to rush everything all at once! As they say "Patience is a virtue".
  6. I'm not Dave obviously............ But I can tell you that the original '66 Fairlane annual was a bit more accurate than the one ERTL released in the '90's. Mainly as far as the body..............particularly the roofline. ERTL goofed on the front and rear window shapes as they are too low compared to the 1:1. Interestingly, when they released the '67(?) Comet around the same time, they got the window shapes right even though they were based on essentially the same tooling. But they goofed on the Comet's side creases. Some have said the grille in the newer Fairlane kit isn't quite riight, but that's subjective as the one I built looks fine to me compared to the 1:1. The only drawback for the only kit is the one piece/all molded in chassis. But looking at Dave's model......he's certainly overcome that!
  7. I use acrylic enamels/lacquer for body painting.................but for interiors I'll use the water based acrylics for the most part. Sometimes though it boils down to what is available in a particular color. I like the lacquers as Bob mentioned as they do dry much faster, better selection of colors, and durability. The problem with the water based acrylics are that they aren't as durable in the long run to the rigors of polishing and handling. Since I at times do a lot of extensive bodywork with opening panels, I need a paint that'll withstand the handling of opening doors, trunks. etc. It boils down to what works best for your situation..............some guys can't use the more fumey lacquers in the home because there are small children around or the wife/girlfriend complains about the odor. They may also lack a paint booth to get rid of the fumes right away. So water based acrylics are a bit safer to use..................but I just don't think they're durable enough in the long run for bodies. BTW, Cstew................I know you're a newbie.................but it'll be a real good idea to go to your profile settings and put in your full name as part of your signature. Lest you get into trouble with the admin!
  8. The engine looks great! Tom, when posting pics from Fotki you wanna make sure you're using the "Share Photo" URL and not right clicking on the photo itself to get the URL. I don't see the "free" moniker in the pic's URL so it should remain on the page. Seems as thought Fotki has changed their way of hosting pics in that pics using the "free" tag in the URL will only stay up but for so long. All of the pics I've posted of late are still showing...............
  9. True! The '69 Charger 500 kit debacle comes to mind! Talk about misrepresentation!
  10. Wow! BEAUTIFUL Box Art!! How come RC2 couldn't do such great box art?? I think a lot of their problems wouldn't be if they focused on the product instead of a quick buck!
  11. Andi, bore us with the details!! How'd you attach the wires to the hub, or are they sandwiched in with the backside of the wheel? Are you looping the wires around the pegs? It's hard to see from the pics. Just the same, I'm gonna copy and save this thread as this'll come in handy for other type wheels, Borranis, Daytons, offset and no offset. Those wires look FANTASTIC on your MG!
  12. This time of the year in 1972 I was gettin' ready for my first taste of Junior High School! So all of those cars are very period correct for the era...........and I remember 'em all well! I have to say that is one of the neatest Dio's I've ever seen! Ranks right up there with the "Skip's Drive In" Dio that was featured in Scale Auto back in the '80's.
  13. LOVE the interior color on that bro! That looks very close to Dusk Pearl which is a '57 color for Chevy.
  14. You DID make it! I PM'ed you earlier but this is the first I've read the board since 7:30 last evening (Severe Storms)! You'll definitely like the layout...............puts the kibosh on trolls! Hope to see some in progress stuff soon Jackie!
  15. WOW! I like the color on that GTO!! Gorgeous build on one of Ferrari's best styling of that era! That blue is a definite plus other than the standard red on Ferrari's. Your stance is perfect too Randy! Don't forget to bring that to the meeting next weekend 'kay?
  16. STUNNING!! Like the others have said, the average Joe hasn't a clue how much time it takes to do just a single part for instance let alone an entire Pocher! One has to wonder with today's technology how well a Pocher of those parts count would fare now! Just the same Harry, looking at the pic, I see nothing wrong with the hood. Some of the Pochers built for magazine ads way back when didn't look as nice as yours!
  17. I LOVE those big scale Jags!! That's one of my favorite big scale kits ever! I have one also, but it was partially started when I bought it (engine). When I build a couple more display shelves in the house, there'll be a couple big scales I'll build................and the Jag will be one of 'em. Keep us posted Harry...............from what I see so far It's lookin' mighty good! Ya might even prod me to get started on mine, display space notwithstanding!
  18. Hi Len, Here's the best I can do with undercarriage pics of the C6............They can be hard to find as hen's teeth. In fact, I think I got these from Izzy a while back. And here's a pic of my finished C6........ Hope this can help!
  19. Great pics and models Jeryd! You're a braver man than I when it comes to waning thunderstorms! All those dark clouds would have to be gone before I'd venture outside in the open like that!
  20. Hmmmm..............apparently not! Only thing is I like to give descriptions on each of the pics I post....especially work in progress models. I guess you can do that here...........although I like Fotki because others who may not know about this site can see 'em there also. Thanks for the tutorial Gregg!
  21. That Superbird is one of the nicest I've seen ever!! Very impressive work!!
  22. That's right! I have 1:1 pics of the coupe and yes, it does have a slight arc where you mentioned Bob. The top cover on the 'vert wouldn't be too hard to shave down a bit as looking at the kit's piece.............. it is too tall. But the buidups I've seen are pretty impressive....................I wish it came with an uptop though to save me some work!
  23. Ken, if there's difficulty in changing your camera's settings.........(some models are a pain), if you have photo editing software in your OS, you can reduce the pixel size of the pic before uploading them into Photobucket. I usually take mine at a large resolution (Big=Good), but then resize them for the 'net so the server doesn't go bonkers!
  24. Very beautiful Caddy Luis! Nothing beats a '59 bubbletop Cadillac for pure class!
  25. I have the Nova convertible and the coupe............while I have yet to build either, the only flaw I see in the convertible body is the windshield frame is a bit too tall compared to the 1:1. The coupe's windshield and roof are spot on, so I don't know how they missed that. I can't comment on the interior though............... It's an easy fix, and if you got a deal on the kits----that's great! The '60 Bonneville hardtop..................Welllllllll------that's another story!
